Romulan Republic

Hi there,

I started a new character on the RR path on PS4 (even though I was going to see if it was 'revamped' as some people have said it will be) and I'm really enjoying it. But there don't seem to be too many other folk playing as Romulans. Are there not that many or am I just playing at a time when they may be offline?

The RR revamp hasn't been roled out yet, personaly i will be waiting until then before i start my next romulan character. I think many RR players are doing the same.

I hope they do it soon then, I do like the way it is just now though. :)

I'm expecting more Romulan content to drop next year. Star Trek: Picard is supposed to tackle galactic politics post-Hobus in the prime universe, and that's debuting at year-end.

If so, we'll see a lot of folk either make, or jump back into, Romulans.

I don't know about on the PS4...but here on the PC side of things, it has been more than a year since we got a RR faction ship and a year and a half since a warbird. IF they release a warbird right after the RoD arc it will have been over a year and a half since the last Romulan faction release and two for a warbird. Yeah...we got abandoned the moment they let us fly our allied ships. There is no Romulan faction on the PC side at least anymore. It's not just on the PS4. The Romulan faction is dead and gone on the PC side as well.

    Unfortunately, this is all true.

Can't say much more as this topic seems to be largely forbidden from discussion, but we'll just say the Romulan Faction is not currently in a very good place and leave it at that.

I think the dewan hairbrush bubble ships came after cross factioning although since the dewans are a long dead race its a push to consider them to be either allies or romulan instead of barrel being scraped for ideas.

Ship wise console is on par with PC, a drought for the romulans that won't break until a month or so after the PC finally get that token nod to the romulans.

I think part of this is theres a fair number of Federation players that play Romulan just to get SROs than fly their Federation ships. Damn shame honestly..

What's verboten is malicious speculation on WHY they haven't released any new Romulan ships. They told us why: "we don't have time to do that right now." They even showed us what they were doing instead of making Romulan Republic ships. Jette even explained that they have started working on more, they just aren't done yet.

Hello, I play on PC. I just reached level 65 on a romulan who (one day) will be my new tactical main on my alt account. This toon is fed aligned but I do have other romulans who are KDF aligned.

While there's been some discussion about the lack of new romulan ships I'm a bit behind in this area anyways so while I'd still like to see more this is not as important for me for now at least.

I did enjoy the story line as it is and also get all the benefits that romulans have while stealing both factions technologies, as is appropriate and enjoyable.

You mention there doesn't seem to be many other folk playing as romulans but really aside from looking at my icon while teamed how could you tell unless I'm in a romulan ship? Aliens are a great choice for customization and you can even fly your allied faction's ships for a while to fill in the gaps, although I realize many want to fly only RR ships.

If you want to go RR enjoy your new toon for what it is... superior to most races in most ways >:)

The Romulan Arc HAS had numerous cutscene improvements, and they are live already!

If/when they do add more content it's very likely going to be Empire only or only a passing relation to the Republic. It's pretty obvious that the Republic and Dominion allied factions should expect little to no new anything.

If they would just release a Warbird equivalent of the T6 Miracle Worker Battlecruisers, I would be plenty happy.

It would be fine if it only had a modern skin as it would have no DISCO era equivalent. I just want a full miracle worker Warbird with 5 forward guns.

Yeah.. I won't hold my breath.

Because one of the first things ever said about the Picard show (and one of the very few plot points noted so far) is the Romulan connection, I'd be shocked if the devs weren't specifically waiting on the show before chancing more Romulan content.

As it is, they need to tie in Picard to Legacy of Romulus somehow, so it would be pretty risky to create more in-game Romulan content right now.

I very highly doubt Picard is the reasons they "haven't done more Romulan content". The more likely reasons is that there simply isn't a logical place for more Romulan specific content.
Interesting analysis, but we don't know what Cryptic knows about the Picard show. They said they're willing to retcon things and not to just add things. So we don't know how things will change as a result of it.

Geko said might retcon things to a point. If it were to be too much of a departure, then STO would just be considered an alternate timeline.

No, they just have to sell everything DSC related, as is expensive to change the development process mid-air, then we will retake the "normal" course of things, and also, season 3 of DSC will be in the future, so i can bet there will be Romulans there..

Because I hardly bump into any other players in the Romulan areas. That's what I meant. Also, when I had a go at a Federation character, I was getting random invites to fleets all the time, not had a single one since being in RR, chat is non-existant yet in the Federation areas, lots of it going on. Unless I'm reading the signs wrong that is.

I think you might be. Earth space dock versus New Romulus Command... one is far larger and busier. The Romulan flotilla is mainly used while ranking up. A FEDrom vs a FEDjem'hadar vs a FEDhuman... makes zero difference to a Fed fleet.

There's only two factions, a fraction (Romulans), with the rest being either a racial choice or a mainly cosmetic choice such as Discovery or TOS Feds.

Within STO's storyline the Romulan Republic has gone from a small fleet parked in space that no one recognizes, to
-Finding a new homeworld for their people.
-Gaining recognition and alliances from the two major powers of local space, The Federation and Klingon Empire.
-Destroying the Elachi who were harassing them under Iconian orders.
-Helping the Remans obtain their freedom.
-Leading to the downfall and dissolution of both the Tal Shiar and Romulan Star Empire.
Which leaves the Romulan Republic in a state where they have no internal enemies, in control of pretty much the entire space once controlled by the RSE, and can instead begin to look outward at more external threats faced not only by them, but all the Alliance powers. Which is why we have all of those cross faction missions.

Its the same thing with both the Federation and Klingon Empire, and why we don't see arcs focused on them specifically. We have already dealt with the internal problems in both, there's not much left there to mine for story. Victory is Life pretty much covered the last major bit of Klingon lore with the Hur'q return.

I'd say it's more the fact that that sort of content only lends itself to those involved, VS using the story lines like they do now for everyone to play them and make sense.

If they put out some sorta.. Romulan internal struggle story arc.. Why is your Fed captain or KDF captain there? You know? Really just lends itself to the starter quests rather than the one homogenized if Federation leaning story we have going forward

Ships are not everything to a faction, and how many ships get released over the year is hardly relevant if you start your first play-through of the faction. All that matters is if there is some story content to go with that, and there is. But at some point, it's all cross-faction "Alliance" stuff like everywhere else.
But if there is a still a revamp coming to the Republic arc, it seems it might be worth waiting. Or maybe its worth playing now, so youi can play it again after the revamp and see what changed?

Sometimes it can be interesting to know the missions before and after revamps. I seem to remember reading however that what they wer mostly doing is new animations and more voice-overs. IMO that means you don't really need to see the non-revamped stuff.
But there have been other arcs that were revamped and the difference is night and day.

If the Romulan Republic was suffering some sort of internal power struggle why would D'Tan not ask for assistance from the Federation and Klingon Empire, who are his two major allies, and the two most powerful forces in the Alpha and Beta quadrants?
Because that would be boring and predictable?

So? It's what would happen. Same thing with J'Ula and the likely upcoming Klingon Civil War plot. J'mpok will probably be like "hey guys, this crazy Klingon from 100+ years ago is threatening to destroy the peace and prosperity our Alliance has brought, wanna help out?" and OFC the Federation, Romulan Republic, and Dominion, will help because J'Ula's actions are a negative for everyone but her.

The only other alternative is them not asking help for no reason(in universe) other then to make it hard on themselves, and for no reason(out of universe) besides to placate people who only feel happy when they have "MUH EXCLUSIVE". And that is just poor writing in-game, and poor game design out of game.

If you are going to do a story that is exclusive for one faction you need the proper context and rationale to justify it so it doesn't come off as "just because we made everyone idiots" or "just because arbitrary restrictions".
And Cryptic has made it plenty clear they don't want to do faction-exclusive content at all.
