    A captain being able to give multiple orders to his/her crew in advance and have them complete them without constant handholding would be entirely realistic.

    True.But it would also be realistic that, if during the execution of those orders something comes to light that could reveal those orders to be questionable, counter-productive, illegal or impossible, that the executing people would stop following orders, report back and request new orders (or confirmation of the old orders.)
