The problem though is that for all intents and purposes no one is willing to teach people to do better.

I could not possibly disagree more.

The only people that don't get help in this game are people that don't ask for whatever reason, and those that just assume the problem is the game and go on a rant.

I have played quite a few online games in my years, I have never seen a community that was even close to being more helpful then the one that exists in STO. Obviously, I am not talking about the cesspool that is Zone Chat.. and yes, it usually requires the person to visit a web forum of some kind.. but help is so readily available that it's just ridiculous to me that anyone could ever say that 'non one is willing to teach.' Not just this site, but Reddit, the build Reddit, the DPS League Site.. there are tons of resources available, the only thing that's required is a willingness to use them.

Most games I have played, the knowledge on how to succeed was always closely guarded by a small number that consider themselves 'elite' and only dolled out knowledge to those they felt were worthy. STO is the exact opposite of that, yes.. it has it's bad seeds like any other community, but help is ridiculously easy to come by in STO. Some of the best players in this game are also the most helpful and most welcoming to new players.

There are a lot of people in this community that love to help people get better, I wish more of them took the time to ask.
So essentially you just highlighted a COMMUNITY issue that needs to be addressed. Cryptic can only teach us the basics of ship builds. It is the Players that know the true ins and outs. What works and what doesn't. And it is interaction with players that may help identify particular playstyles and help with optimized builds that compliment that person's playstyle rather than just give out cookie cutter builds.

I can agree with all that. Just a note on the last part though, no one encourages 'cookie cutter builds.' Builds are clearly posted as Templates for people to get ideas from. If someone wants to copy it word for word.. no one objects, but it's always encouraged to add your own flavor to any build you're using as an example. I am just as opposed to copy/paste builds as you are.

They should just track down the bug and squash it.

Agreed. Frankly, it's a little silly that after all this time.. it still exists.

We really do need to find a way to make help much more accessable for players. Some of the elitist attitudes that look down on others is a major turn off on even TRYING to ask for help. It may very well take people like us to come up with a solution. And seeing other people willing to step up makes me feel good because I know I'm not the only one trying to help others.

While I may only focus on the gear and BOff abilities... at least it is a start. And sometimes... that one small step leads to a big improvement. May not get someone to 15k DPS... but it should get them at or near 10k so that they can actually start getting better gear and be better set up for tough battles. In time... and with some help... maybe someday those former rookies can help new players as we have helped them.

After all... we were once in their shoes weren't we? Looking up at these max level players wondering if we could be as good as they are?

I say lets show them that they don't have to fear asking for help. That not everyone will attack them for not being good.

Call me an idealist... but honestly there's nothing this community can't achieve if we work together. Just look at the old community created and led PvP Bootcamp! That was organized by players, and actually supported by the Devs. That is proof that the community can make a positive impact.

We just gotta find a way.

Yes. The real problem is that as they say, good enough is good enough. In STO it's usually good enough to show up, shoot a few passive HP sacks and wait for the timers to tick by for guaranteed win. So you might get randomly one-shot by something, and that means what? Having to wait a few seconds and press respawn. It won't even stop the auto-win timers.

Fact is, the whiners ranting about this or that enemy being too hard are the outliers. The majority just hits respawn and plods on doing whatever, because they know they don't need to do any better.

It's easy enough to teach people how to do better, there's plenty of resources available for that, channels and websites devoted to it.
It's not so easy however turning that into a playable ship, to pay for all the various bits and pieces that goes into it. The difference between a budget build you can whip up from mission rewards and the high end build is precisely where that extra difficulty becomes a drag the budget build struggles with.

In regards to gear, I routinely give budget builds to folks that ask for them either on my youtube channel, through facebook groups i'm part of, and occasionally on here for folks that PM me. the lowest tier budget I work with is 2m ec with everything else being free to obtain. I also take into account the daily dilithium refinement limit of a single toon. Overall the builds typically don't take more than a week to build, and that's only because of dilithium refinement limitations. It's possible to have a good starting budget build put together in less than a day without having to touch even that 2m ec if you know where to go and what to do. It won't be the hardest hitting thing ever but it will get you in the door.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out for the good or the bad, hopefully for the good.

I've mostly encountered the rare Invisitorp in Infected. Cure and Kitomer, not so much.
And the super strong Torp Spreads tend to come from Terran Command Cruisers, so maybe Counterpoint or the Badlands. Also Terran Escorts using Point Defense seems to be a bit OP with being able to chew through shields and hull, and Terran Escort Carriers using Torpedo Point Defense is rather brutal.

Still never seen this happen even once.

Just because the almighty AZ...who doesn't even PARSE never seen this happens must surely mean it never does obviously. Nevermind that my kenatri missiles with NO buffs at all are hitting for 65k. Nah...that's all perfectly normal. What is even more damning is that I will have runs where the same attacks will do only 40k damage to me...if I don't have a shield on that facing and my missles do the normal several thousand damage on bare hull that it is suppose to. But yeah an intermitten bug surely does not exist because you personally never ran into.
The problem is proving that's a bug as its possible for that unbuffed missile to hit for 65k without any buffs from you. Others players can cause your unbuffed missiles to hit that high. I thought my 25k torpedo hitting for 100k to 250k was a bug but the problem is how do I show its a bug and not rule out other players causing my 25k to hit for 250k?

Unless your missiles are hitting for 65k solo, chances are its caused by an interaction with what other players are doing. Saying that, I am not ruling out its a bug but I have gone from 100% thinking its a bug to having my doubts after extensive testing.

Again I am not ruling it out but personally I have not seen the Invisitorps at all this year. I thought it had been fixed.

There is no doubt the crazy 300k hits are real the question is are they a bug or working as intended? From testing it appears as though at least some of them are working as intended and not a bug.
