Foundry should have had money involved.

So, like many others, I'm really disappointed that the Foundry is being shut down. It was one of the only things that made this game unique for me and may drive me further away from the game.

That said, I'm just expressing myself here when I say that they should have had some sort of way to fund the Foundry as many players and creators opposed. Maybe I'm wrong and I don't fully understand the specifics of the business or development side of things, but I think if they would have added things like "asset packs" or "map packs" to the zen store it could have kept the Foundry afloat.

I think the Foundry being shut down was predictable for this very reason.

Charging people money to create free content for your game? That's a bold strategy Cotton :)

Charging creators would not work because almost no one creates Foundry content. Cryptic would probably lose money developing the asset store and the code to unlock purchased content in the Foundry tools.

Charging players would not work because Cryptic's own content is free. Given that, I doubt many players would pay $10 for fan fiction.

They shut it down because it was breaking every update nearly, and was based off legacy code, different to what is used now, so it was costing alot of man-power to keep fixing, especially as there was a lack of Dev's with knowledge of that legacy code.

Chucking more money at it to maintain it is just like chucking money at a school-yard bully that would keep coming back for more. It solved nothing.

Yes, they could build a new foundry, but that's only an 'if', not a when.
