Wish List for Improvements

So to start with, Im not a programmer so no, I'm not fully aware of how much actual work goes into making the magic, and this is more akin to a letter to santa than a list of demands from a kidnapper, but I think there are a lot of aspects of the game that are criminally underused by the developers and these are just a few things that I think could - for some - improve gameplay.


1)On-board your ship.
In the two years I've played the game, I visited the ship interior map maybe three times because there was never any reason to go there. But a lot of star trek took place aboard the ship and didnt involve blowing stuff up.
- To start with I wish they added "officer of the watch" type assignments where you can complete them in exchange for commendation points, marks or xp. These assignments can be class specific, for example a tactical officer can do security rounds or escort a visiting delegate, engineering officers can re calibrate stuff and medical/science officers can do some lab work.
- A tailor/costume (?) would be nice for added RP since sometimes I'd like to change my characters costume and not have to go all the way back to ESD. Its also a reason to use the captains quarters.
- I also wouldn't mind an armory for additional weapons storage since 99% of the stuff I get from the reputation system I end up discarding.

2) Earth Space Dock
First stop for new players as well as homebase for a lot of players
- First and foremost I think I would get rid of the local chat zone. While some people use it to ask about content or specific missions, an increasing amount use it to troll about politics or race or whatever, I'll be honest its pretty annoying. Maybe move the chatzone into a section of Club 47 so if people wanna troll each other, they'll need to move their avatar into the bar.
- Speaking of the Bar, I think the club is pretty poorly used, if ever used. Any time I wander in there I end up being the only player even using it. If devs added A dance mini-game in exchange for marks or xp would be a nice addition. There could also be special events held in the bar (any kind) with bonuses given to players who come in off duty outfits (give us a reason to purchase the formal attire costume at least) and can possibly bring more of a social aspect back to the game.
- I also think the bar itself would be a great place as a mission contact point for Franklin Drake/Section 31. Additionally I like the idea of npc's at the bar having conversations about events that happen in other faction play thu's.
- Im a big fan of the R&D and use it quite a bit, but its really almost too easy...why not utilyze the second floor of ESD to make R&D Labs where you need to actually go to the lab to make or upgrade items.

Starfleet Academy
- Open up one of the buildings as a tutorial on how to make foundry missions (the more content the better)

Drozana Station
- Two words...fight club. The klingons have the Batleth tournament, Federation faction should have something similar.

anyway these are just a few ideas incase the developers happen to be looking, I now some of you will think its dumb and mostly mind numbing busy stuff but people who enjoy RP might appreciate it

    Fix the dam cloaking on Romulan ships for crying out loud. Also improve the ques so that we actually play crystalline catastrophe more than once a year. And while you guys are at it, fix the ques so that it doesn't take a course in thermodynamics to get a group of friends in one pve, multifaction or not.
    And finally....if you all make a new Star trek online someday, for god sakes make the romulans their own faction. It is total bs how we must be allied with either feds or Klingons. In reality Romulans were allied with both species respectfully and only until the dominion war did they actually fight by their sides . Other than that we were peaceful with most factions but def not allied to the degree of fighting a another in all out war. This will actually balance PVP in kerrat as well due to having 3 factions instead of 2. Romulans should be able to shoot everyone not have to pick a side. Besides most fleets and factions nowadays are made up of mostly roms anyways.

    Fed wants more bridge...scoffs. I've got 3 bridges total to choose from: Romulan default, Universe or Scimitar. Give me some more first, then we'll talk. :smile:

    But speaking of bridges, i do use one bridge quite heavily, Suliban Cell ship. If others had similar features, i'm sure the overall bridge use would go up. Currently too few ships with such perks on them. Maybe more perks for all, or some new ones?

    STO already has doff assignments that are only available onboard.

    If you want to role-play this go ahead and pick some location as your only crafting and upgrading spot. I'd much rather spend my time playing the game than stopping what I'm doing and warping to a location just to craft.

    I'd rather they spend the effort on maintaining and enhancing the foundry itself.

    I mean they've since introduced revised Galaxy Bridge's part of a Ship Pack; yet unobtainable to those who already had the ship. It be good to allow people to acquire just the Galaxy Bridge &/or Interiors separate, same as Voyager Bridges, along with possible new options to customize or tweak the more standardized Interiors. The work they did on the Aquarius Bridges for the T6 Odyssey Star Cruiser's were also amazing!

    That is why I suggested a way to integrate or allow more expansion of Ship Interiors with more Decks, or rooms that could be unlocked with either ZEN &/or GPL aside from a basic look we've had since day 1. They could also allow more custom furnishings from Desks, Chairs, Paintings, Rugs, Shelves, Statues, Musical Instruments to also be treated like Trophies using and placing the same way. I'd also love to see more options for interiors to customize Hallway Walls &/or Flooring textures or open more shades/textures to use as well as customizing furniture in Captain's Ready Room, 10 Forward, and Captain's Quarter's or even tweak lighting in different elemens to dim to bright depending where the lighting is and the mood the Captain's trying to set. Would love to see Crew deck not only include Captain's Quarter's but also for your First Officer, Chief Engineer, &/or Medical Officer & Chief Scientist so you could show their personalities as well.

    As someone said it be a great start to update a few older bridge like Scimitar or the Origin 'default Bridges' into the 25th Century for all Factions. Some Bridges &/or Rooms could be sold in CSTORE while others be a great option to slowly expand GPL unlocks. The ART department could easily expand rooms with a standard either Faction &/or 'Alliance' look if DEVs made some changes from Small to Large Interiors, with a few additional decks similar to the LINK above. For those in lieu of a Faction Starship with an Alien Starship, maybe the NPC's offer different missions on the Bridge, and requires other tasks if not finished at ESD, Quonos, Romulus Command, &/or DS9? They could also reuse the development creating new rooms for Starship, by reusing similar room sizes & facilities for various facilities in the upper or lower area's of ESD, Quonos, Romulan Command, DS9. Earth Space Dock has many upper levels with Rooms, that actually have locked doors and could open to Research, Labs, Tactical, or countless other areas, there's even a turbo lift below the Transporter Pad, that could take you to the lower level's too. Quonos is on the Planet but we know the Exchange has a lower Deck one mission takes you to; and in much the same fashion the opportunities to Romulan Command are similar with the Turbo lift to the lower levels.

    I love Local Chat and think it's a great way to communicate, cause some enable to not accept Private Messages except for Friends &/or Fleet. It's the primary reason however why people use Local Chat so that should not be removed!

    But I do like the idea of slightly expanding some options Earth Space Dock, &/or Quonos cause if you don't FLY a Faction Starship to be given the NPC; perhaps similar missions could be accept at those locations. With similar rooms of similar size being able to be reused at either ESD or Quonos as well. Earth Space Dock just like expanding a few Ship's Decks has the Upper Decks with Doors that don't open or have anything in behind so they could reuse the Room Art similar or to Preview different options that because available different seasons; as for Quonos they could expand the lower level like the early mission that has you visit the Ferengi in the Klingon Exchange Lower Level. They could have similar Research, Labs, Tactical or other rooms available on Ships displayed they as well. The same could also be done for Romulus Command, or for the Gem Hadar or Cardassian then Odo &/or Garek could retrofit their old stomping grounds, revising Ore Processing Center's to have a few Research Area's, Tactical, all Alliance Member's could use while away from their Main Faction's Homebase.

    Both Shielding, Sensors, Research, and many other things as the ships so the rooms developed for one could also be used to be purchased with either ZEN &/or GPL as well. :)

    The only thing the Starbase doesn't have is offensive capabilities, since the very early days as earlier Earth Governments resisted it fearing misuse.

    Still the possibilities are endless IF only they might actually explore some of those options. o:)

    1) Foundry
    Both the search in game and the editor are plagued with bugs and make the job of creating good content 10x harder than it should be (and hats off to the people that still make it work and create wonderful missions) fixing it may not be high priority but if it was easier to use i think more people would use it to even justify a foundry season where perks from doing them can be gained (that way cryptic can make their content while players can make remain entertained)

    The romulan faction your referring from the tv shows is the Romulan Star Empire/Tal Shiar not the Romulan republic which was created after the destruction of Romulus and are the exact opposite of the RSE/Tal shiar.

    I do expect them to implement all our idea's...

    I'd be happy with a few Faction Ship Tailor enhancements, Slightly expanded or enhanced Faction Interior's, and yes Holodeck's to run Foundy Simulations almost exclusively LINKED to the Holodeck found at the Academy or Starship Bridges.

    I don't think they should exist throughout the game; as Neverwinter also has a Job Board, and here the Holodeck serve a similar function. But people are correct they'd need to vastly improve the at least SEARCH functions for FOUNDRY, and improve ways to search FOUNDRY missions that increase your rating score.
    • Perhaps Highlight or make it easier to locate missions created by those in your FLEET &/or Armada.
    • That may encourage others to review/rate them, with honest, considerate, and mostly helpful advise to improving them?
    • Also encourage Foundry Author's to get involved in a Fleet or Armada as well.
    • Regardless I think Holodeck's are great way to incorporate Foundry.
    • ╘ Especially if they really expanded Repelling, Ziplining, Parachuting, or Cross County Sking.
    • ╘ Or recreation inter mixed w/ combat more like Picard's / Data / Tom / Harry's Holo Novel's?

    If only - till then - I keep wishful & hopeful thinking...

    Fix the Gamma rep item option. It auto gives the item once finished despite you still needing to click on the Upgrade box to receive the item.

    While I'm on the topic of the rep grinds, how about adding an upgrade option to get the Nukara and Romulan rep set items for 100 marks like all the others rep grinds have in the upgrade section.

    This would be my wish list for STO.
    1) allow the players to be able to change our specialization in any map. Would make the random stf or tfo more palatable.
    2) since they've made some definitions with carriers/flight deck cruisers, how about defining what makes a battle cruiser a battle cruiser. How about making all battle cruisers tactical centric and have a 5/3 weapon layout instead of the 4/4 cruiser standard.
    3)make the z-store more intuitive. Give us a tab for ship classes. Cruisers/science/escorts/other/etc.
    4) give all escorts pilot maneuvering capabilities.
    5) make specialization points universal account unlocks. It would make having Alts far far more enjoyable and would allow players to roll more characters without handicaps. Which means more ship sales character slots boff slot sales etc.
    6) Once a character unlocks lvl 15 on an R&D category make it an account unlock for all toons on that account giving all alts access to those traits. This and the idiotic specialization point grind are the reasons why I don't really bother leveling anymore alts as its just a pain.
