Balancing issues - have to be fixed ASAP

What's with this game now? I used to be able to play through the story no problem with a new character. Now the game is so unbalanced it's impossible to start a new character. I was in the fighting a Borg sphere and I can get the hull down to 80% before it kills me! The only way to survive the one ship is to deploy all my abilities and hope for the best. But I still die and I have to race back to the target until I kill it. Also I was using a Intel Assault Cruiser as well tried Odyssey Cruiser just in case it was a starship issue. The only way I can still play that game is through my main character and I took a break for a couple years and I was doing high amounts of damage killing targets in seconds with my build with basic tactical abilities applied. Now it's feels like starting all over again!

I gave up on this game because of bugs and there are plenty still here I guess I really just give up on the game for good now and I'll just come back for new seasons. This game now just feels too much of a grind everywhere and I'm tired of it this is supposed to be a game not a job (Sure I get 500 zen a month doesn't pay for anything these days lol!)

Umm...yeah...my AoY toon using common mark XII items mostly still does just fine. Yes level 65 scaling means you need to not be asleep when you play. Hell you can be half asleep and be fine. The problem is, the old level cap of 50, you could literally be asleep and finish normal combat. No kidding, I actually fell asleep and my one hanger of scorpion fighters killed everything. I think having the difficulty be increased to must be awake is not unreasonable. Because that is what the requirement is.

sounds a little bit like you're the problem not the game, to be fair ;)

in case you want to know how ships are build today, check out the latest published builds at sto-league.com, there are even discount builds mainly using mainly episode gear ;)

Not all my problem but yeah it's a part of it I shouldn't have to make special weapons to finish the story and this is why my friends don't play because they can't beat anything on their own and I'm pissed because I have to be there all the time on my main and if they aren't doing well they just quit the game it took one friend a year before I got him to try it again. To be honest Borg spheres shouldn't be doing that much damage at all that's the kind of thing I would expect from a cube.

Yes but there is a setting that you can change to up the difficulty for the game up to elite all the time. If I wanted a higher difficulty I would do that but I find the story boring after I played it once already and I want to rush and complete it as well as get my rewards for my TOS character.

Um no it's not the players problem. It's the devs making content scaled for several people and not taking into account a good chunk of players do stuff solo.

I can't do Para Pacem because as soon as the battle starts everything nukes me with in seconds and then I respawn back on top of them.

Honestly, most veteran players will find this argument hard to agree with, with only a few exceptions (I'll get to those later). The story content and most TFOs (on regular difficulty) are laughably easy, assuming your build is in order. What I mean by that is just the basics: Tac captain flying a tac ship, science captain flying a science ship, etc. Using all the same weapon type and energy type if you're Tac, focusing on EPG if you're Science, etc. You don't need to have everything upgraded to Mk XV epic to be effective in this game, but you do need to know how to do a basic build and understand the synergy mechanics of the game (how everything ties into everything else, from DOFFs and BOFFs, to traits, to the ships themselves and the consoles you put on them). I can't tell you how many times I've seen Tac captains flying around in big Engineer ships because they think it's cool or more survivable, only to die over and over again on regular difficulty TFOs; or Science captains flying in an escort because they are under the mistaken opinion that they need more tactical consoles for their weapons but end up with the DPS of a wet noodle. At the risk of sound elitist, I've been in quite a few random TFOs on regular difficulty where I've carried my team because some of them were incapable of pulling their own weight for some of the aforementioned reasons.

To be fair, the game is not intuitive. There are a lot of nuances to this game, and the in-game tutorial does a poor job of explaining even a fraction of the complexity that lies within an effective ship build. And while there are very few players out there who are willing to take the time to explain it all to you, there are even fewer players who are willing to learn or figure it out themselves. But you need to have some realistic expectations here as well. If all you want to do is hop in a big cruiser on your Tactical captain to have some fun, you're going to struggle at times even in DSEs. While it's obvious that the game designers intended to incorporate the trinity methodology into this game (i.e. tank, healer, DPS), in reality, the game doesn't work that way. Tanks are pointless because aggro mechanics don't scale well, and in the end it's all about DPS (in PvE, at least). The result is that Tac and Science are far better suited for the PvE content than Engineer. Sure, you can make a tanky Engineer, but what's the point when you'll just lose aggro to a Tac captain with a good build who's doing insane DPS? My point here is that what you may consider fun in this game may not be conducive with what's most effective.

That all being said, there are some exceptions and some legitimate scaling and balancing issues, but those tend to be either specific missions and/or against specific enemies using specific weapons. For example, Dranuur Gauntlet on regular difficulty is extremely hard because if you're facing the Voth, or Borg, or Tzenkethi, they will tear you apart. NPC torpedo damage needs to be scaled back. I once took a 500k Tetryon torpedo from the Tzenkethi on Advanced Dranuur Gauntlet. And I don't believe Arc/Cryptic ever nerfed Feedback Pulse for NPCs like they did for players. Case in point, watch what happens to a Tac player with a good build who's not paying attention on the Borg Queen in either Hive Onslaught or Borg Disconnected - they kill themselves instantly from the Feedback Pulse. Also, difficulty scales badly as you go from Advanced to Elite difficulty, which is why you see so few players actually doing Elite queues.

But for the story content and most regular TFO missions, all that's required is a competent build. I'd recommend you start there, because once you've taken the time to learn that and put together a really good build, you'll be amazed at what you can do in this game.

So...you think a game should literally be so easy that you can do it in your sleep....

    Yeah we are done here.

Yes it should be for the "story mode" and if it's set on easy. I shouldn't have to transfer over my weapons and consoles from another character just to get through a story arc... In the old days I could complete the story just fine before and the end game content was more of a challenge as where it should be.

If you can't see that the game isn't balanced in many places you haven't been playing it long enough come back when you are paying more attention.

For the most part, I have little problem with the Space combat. However, some of the ground combats can be frustrating. Even at Normal difficulty, it seems that your enemies are all super-human... or make that super-species. And that's where I find myself going back again and again, respawn after respawn until I think the game just gets tired of me and lets me win.

All my alts have only mk XII and decent build -> no problem in any story missions...

Stop using random trash gear + garbage build at endgame lvl.
