Just a quick question on this. On my engineer I like the herald carrier and cruiser. I am missing the console from the Lobi ship. The problem is that I do not want this Lobi ship on my engineer but would prefer in on my tactical officer.
My question is that if I get the ship on my tactical officer is there any way to get the console over to my engineer and will it unlock the hanger pet for my engineer that you can get for having this ship?
And that is the main reason those ships are per character.
The only way to obtain them is via the ubercurrency lobi which is drip fed to players via the lockboxes and that drip feed relies on keys and zen purchasing regardless of how many players are actually involved in the process. Average of 4-5 lobi per gamblebox means around 40-50 per stack of 10 keys and with a single ship costing 900 lobi means the numbers are just crazy if you were to go for a cash spend purely to get a lobi ship.
Which is why you should avoid buying keys or lobi store items outside a sale and NEVER waste lobi on buying tokens for the event ships since the amount you get back is a pittance.

So, what should you spend your lobi on then? I mean, some of us open boxes because we like to do so and don't really focus all that much on the lobi. Now, if you bought keys JUST for the lobi, yeah, that would be a waste. But you're getting more than lobi, even if some might feel it's not worth the expense. I've always thought of the lobi as an added benefit, not the actual benefit.

I feel your pain, I was recently in a similar boat with the 23C Dreadnought (Atlas.) I have one character that I wanted the console on, but he wasn't going to use the ship.. and I had another character who the ship really fit her.
Like you though, I ended up just having to buy the ship twice. Wasn't a big issue, didn't cost me any real world money.. just time.. but I get it, it's a bit annoying. Unfortunately, that's how Lobi works.

This will be a matter or personal opinion, but I absolutely agree with @postagepaid, you should never use Lobi on Event Ships. Why use such valuable currency on something that is otherwise free? I have never understood it, and I never will.
Even if you don't need anything from the Lobi Store, you can use your Lobi to buy things to sell for EC. There is just always a better use for your Lobi then burning it on something that is completely free. Just my opinion, I get it if you feel differently.

Yes, I'd rather put the lobi towards credits for a lockbox or R&D ship. (Buy something not bound to account, sell on exchange.)
I could see using lobi to make up one day if there was something like a computer failure that kept me from finishing the event, if I really wanted to fly the ship now instead of finishing it a year later.

True. Event ships, if you have them slotted, but don't have enough vouchers for them. Just leave them slotted. For example the Anniversary, Summer and Winter event ships, if you have them slotted, but fail to complete. Just leave them slotted, and when the event rolls around again, use one char to complete the old event with the new vouchers, and another char to get the new ship.
For the lobi store and lockbox ship. Other than as a personal preference, the main reason most would get these are to complete the sets and admiralty cards.
I 100% agree about not using Lobi for event shipd. Just leave them slotted for next time. I used my cache of Lobi the other day during the 50% Lobi store sale and bought ships to sell on the exchange.
I didn't say not to spend your lobi at all I was trying to encourage you to spend it wisely because its such a premium currency by avoiding using it for event ships and having some patience to wait for sales.
Even if you're dropping lobi on stuff to sell on the exchange better to play the long game and use sales to your advantage.
