Trying to decide on next T6 Ship from C Store

rthenrthen Member Posts: 38 Arc User
So I decided to buy some ZEN for the holidays and I am deciding on which T6 Ship to buy and outfit. My main is a max level fed tac officer. I have been playing, and max leveled, a Temporal DK Cruiser. I am getting sort of tired of it. Any recommendations? Anything generally "more fun"?

Well... kinda depends on your playstyle a bit.

Did someone say fun in the C-store?

I'm personally a big fan of ship packs, especially cross faction, if you play Rom and KDF in addition to Fed. Each faction has their own style of play that may double or triple your enjoyment of STO.

If I had a choice, rather than buy single ships, I would save for a 'Faction bundle' (3 ships for the price of 2) or an expansion pack. Just pick one you like. The new Gamma Vanguard Pack is a good solid buy with a variety of Jem'hadar and Cardassian ships to keep you entertained (and 50% off pack sale makes it 2x as good!). Don't fret, there will always be another ship sale.

For C-store Fed single ships that pack a lot of fun, I like:

    Escorts:
    T6 Arbiter
    T6 Phantom Intel Escort
T6 Temporal Raider (Ouroboros) = a feisty little sister of your Temporal DK Cruiser.
T6 Andorian Chimesh Pilot Escort (allied Pilot Escort - Sci variant, but choose the variant you like)

A lot of my Fed Captains still fly the Arbiter, Phantom and Raider - even though there are newer ships out there. The Phantom and Raider are a bit more fragile than the Arbiter (and Pilot Escort seemingly most fragile of all), but they can hit hard and can zip away when things get heated, but they should not expect to charge into a group of 180 ships and get into a slugging match.

    Cruisers:
I still enjoy the Command Starfleet Battlecruiser bundle. Solid cruisers, just pick the variant you like.
    Ops Cmd BC Concorde Class
    Sci Cmd BC Geneva Class
    Tac Cmd BC Presidio Class

The Odyssey Bundle [T6] are also good solid cruisers. Pick the flavour you like.
    Sojourner, Endeavour, Yorktown.

All the above escorts and cruisers unlock a nice starship trait as a bonus item.

As always, value is in the eye of the beholder. I'm also not going to tell you how to play/kit the ships. I suggest you poke around for online ship reviews/let's play videos and see them in action to sort of try before you buy, and see if they fit your play style. I have other ships, but I seem to keep coming back to these 'when the going gets tough'.

The newly released ships are nice, but I haven't found any that 'call to me' as much as these (err, except the Jem'hadar Vanguard carrier that I like a lot).

Most important of all. Have Fun!
Fly what feels good for you ... and branch out beyond Feds to try at least one KDF, Rom, Jem'hadar and Cardassian. Once you 'go Rom', Feds seem so safe
    Enjoy.

Good turn rate and decent BOff seating... Hm...

Cruiser wise I'd lean more towards the Guardian, Archon Intel Assault Cruiser, and the Arbiter Battlecruiser. The Arbiter would have a better turn rate, but the Guardian and Archon have decently balanced BOff layouts.

Escort wise... Maybe the Caitian Shikaris.

There is also the Recon Destroyer to look at as well.

The Phatom's Phaser Lance is a fun console if you're using a Phaser build.

The Guardian has a classic Trek cruiser look and is a good all-around ship.

The Arbiter has great specs and a nice trait if you're using EPTWeapons

The Arbiter is suggestion #1 for anyone wanted to do Energy Weapon builds (non Science builds.)

Lets go over why the Arbiter is #1..

    1. 5/3 Weapon Layout. This means that the ship is optimized for any type of layout you want to run. Should you opt to go single beams in a broad side build, this is effectively exactly the same as your standard 4/4 but it has the flexibility to go with a front facing build as well. This means you can run Dual Beams, Single Beams, or Cannons and be optimized for either one.
    2. Console Layout. The Arbiter is really well balanced, and should let you do anything you like. No, it doesn't have 5 Tactical Consoles, but that's far from a 'must.' The Arbiter was a well balanced layout so even if you don't have a ton of Universal consoles, you should still be able to set it up pretty nicely.
    3. Bridge Officer Stations. It has a Commander Engineering which lets you slot all the durability you need. It can run Reverse Shield Polarity III which you can extend duration with a Duty Officer to make you tough as nails. Combine that with the ships bundled console (more on that later) and you have a really durable little ship. The ship has enough tactical to bring the damage and access to Intel which is still the most desired spec for Energy Weapon builds (in most cases.)
    4. The Starship Trait. The ship comes with the best trait in the game for Beam or Cannon builds. The trait is considered 'must have' in pretty much every build and will be massively helpful to you going forward. It's seriously awesome.
    5. The Ship Console. This is a bit subjective as many don't use the console, but if you are short on Universals, I would suggest taking the Hazard Shielding console. It can really get you out of trouble, it's a one click 'get outta jail free card.' You will probably drop it in an optimized DPS build, but otherwise it's a solid choice.

    Now the negatives

    1. It's not fleet level from the C-Store. This one kinda sucks, you need a fleet module to get the 11 console version, but now that you can get these from Rep projects it's far less of an issue.
    2. Looks are subjective, some love the look, some hate it. If you don't like the look, it 'kit bashes' well with the T5 version if you own that (the T5 was actually given away free a while back so a lot of people have it.)

Personally, I like the all black hull but to each their own. I have a lot of C-Store and Lobi/Lockbox ships, and the Arbiter holds pace with every single one of them.

If you're going to get a pack, I recommend the Battle Cruiser 3 pack, the Morrigu (Romulan) and Kurak (KDF) are equally awesome.

Do you have a Klingon or Romulan character? Get yourself a ship with Enhanced Battle Cloak and make it a torp boat. I've got a Kor and it's great fun to play.

Err... Please help to explain what is the Rep System enabling player to get the "Fleet" version of Arbiter with 11 consoles?
I never did the Rep System.
    I never joined a Fleet.
But I do want the "Fleet" version of Arbiter with 11 consoles!

    Sure, I'l explain.

The reputation system has 6 levels to advance through, per reputation. You unlock different rewards for advancing through each Tier.

One of the rewards for completing T6 in a Reputation is that you can exchange 100 marks for 1 fleet ship module. You can do this one time per reputation, so it's possible to obtain up to 12 fleet modules in this fashion.

If you have the C-Store version of the Arbiter, you can buy the Fleet Version for 1 Fleet Ship module. You will however, need to be in a fleet to make the purchase.

Hope that explains it better, if not let me know.

T6 flagship bundle has a good support console set w/pet shuttles.
T6 defiant ship has cannon scatter volley trait if you like using cannons.
T6 MW cruisers... looks like TRIBBLE but I am told they are pretty solid.

Are you looking for traits or a ship to use. cannons/beams/torp boat?

Yes! I have the C-store version of the T6 Arbiter...

So in order to get a Fleet Arbiter, please advise, do I need to:
    1) Join a Fleet with Level Shipyard IV or above,
    2) Have 1 Fleet Ship Module (either from Reputation Level 6 as you say, or buy from Z-Store).
    3) ***Do I also need to pay 20,000 Fleet Credits to the Fleet to purchase the Fleet Arbiter? <==please advise, thanks!

I have both the Z-Store versions of T5 Avenger battlecruiser and T6 Arbiter battlecruiser.

Both above ships have its own unique consoles, and when both are equipped on the same (Arbiter) ship, the set bonuses are:

    Set 2: Deadly Maneuvers
    +15% All Weapon Damage
    +33% Flight Turn Rate

    Sweet ;)

Yes, you would need to join a fleet with a level IV shipyard. You would then go to the ship dealer and purchase the Fleet Battlecruiser for 1 Fleet Module and 20,000 Fleet Credits. You get Fleet Credit by turning in your fleet marks to Fleet Projects that need them. You get 50 Fleet Credits for every Fleet Mark you turn in. This means you would need 400 marks which are very easy to get.

Once obtained, this ship is character only.. it's not an account wide unlock. Any character on your account that wants the Fleet Version has to do the same thing. The Fleet Ship does not come with a unique console or trait, but you can use the Avenger/Arbiter consoles on this ship. You can use the Arbiter Starship Trait on any ship you fly.

    Vesta!

The Arbiter is also a good ship indeed. Useful trait, good weapon and console lay out, and amazing skins.

The Lafayette is also a great ship and very fun to fly. Like all destroyers or battlecruisers, it combines the best of an escort's layout with a cruiser's looks. (That is very subjective, I know.)
Formerly known as Risian4. Risian6 is my new PS4-account. Fleetcaptain5 is my main PC account. I hope to actively play again on PC in a few months.

Now that that's made clear... on to the next issue: when are playable Voth coming, and where's are my T7 Vesta and C-store purchasable real life shuttle? :)
  • risian6#1997 risian6 Member Posts: 128 Arc User
I myself bought (besides the Lafayette and Vesta) the Intel ship pack a few days ago for my new account.

I wasn't sure whether to pick the Tactical star cruiser or the Eclipse - in the end I chose the Intel pack because the Phantom is a not so bad escort with a very useful trait (especially for non-tac ships), the Scryer's trait seems useful for science ships (haven't levelled it yet but I had been eyeing it for a long time for my main's Sci on PC) and the Eclipse is everything a cruiser should be imo: long, and with the right balance between elegance and sturdiness.

While being more expensive than only the Tac cruiser of course, I think it's a good pack for the price it costs. Then again, I've heard that the Oddyseys are also pretty good ships. I know the Sci's trait is useful and the Tac's probably too and the Operations one looks great - but they're a bit too whaleish (spelling?) for me in that they are not very manoeuvrable.

You already have the Temporal DK, which is my go-to "just one ship" purchase. Other than that, you gotta go Arbiter and/or the Pilot Escorts. I especially enjoy the Science Pilot.
  • w00qw00q Member Posts: 121 Arc User
rthen, I'm using my Z-Store version of T6 Arbiter battlecruiser, so I'm biased ;)

Your need to decide on your play style first, and then pick the T6 (or T5U!) ship that fits your play style...

    1. Generally speaking, ships that turn quickly (Escorts, Raiders) have lower hulls and are "glass canons". Just think of a ship version of a dagger fight.

    2. Slower turning ships have more hull, but turning speeds can be much slower than your opponent. End Result: You just turn in circles and spam Beam Fire At Will or similar skills. This drives me crazy; not my style.

    3. A compromise are the ships with turn rates in between these (1) and (2) extremes, such as Battlecruisers and maybe Raiders.
These have more hull for tanking and staying in the fight when things get hairy. I chose the T6 Arbiter because of this.

    Have FUN deciding!

They're very comparable actually. Very similar bridge officer and console layout, both have access to Intel Spec, they surprisingly have the same turn rate (though the Arbiter has better Inertia) and both have the desirable 5/3 weapon layout.

The Vengeance ultimately has a slight advantage because it can cloak without using any console slots and it has a Hangar Bay. The Vengeance is also dual spec and also has access to Temporal Operative.

The Arbiter on the other hand is an account wide unlock which is very nice. The Vengeance is a little better, but not by a lot. The Arbiter is competitive with anything you can get.

If you are tired of cruiser, nothing better than buy an escort. And nothing better than pilot escort. Andorian has pilot maneuvers and looks cool. With blue discovery phasers blue cool! And she has a great starship trait , tactical variant if you like more DPS - Promise of ferocity or science with Improved gravity well.

Well... You know how the T5 Scimitars were some of the best ships for DPS before T6? Well... the Vengeance is basically the T6 equivelent Fed side so one of the top tier DPS ships in the game. Not only that she has an integrated cloak and FULL Intel mechanic, which allows access to Override Subsystem Safties and other desirable Intel powers, on top of having access to a Lt. Universal/Temporal station. The Fleet T6 Arbiter is not a specialist ship. On top of that... the Vengeance has a hanger. The Arbiter doesn't.

So... at least on paper, and if built right, the Vengeance outperforms the Fleet Arbiter.

The T6 Miranda Class or the NX class... Both are quite agile and very nice to fly.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

If you think the Chronos is the best ship, then great.. state your reasons and be clear it's your opinion. I would wager quite a bit that you're in the vast minority thinking the Chronos is the best ship you can buy.
