I must say i also liked the old ones more. On the other hand the green versions now look nice on TNG Klingon /Romulan Sjips (they remind me of the effects in Nemesis)

But I would also prefer a change to the old version. I have also spend a lot of time and resources to upgrade them and now they are just dump

BTW, will we ever get proper TwoK Phasers ?

And did they add DSC Torpedoes with the update ? I played the first time today after 2 month

They did not, which is a shame as I'd really love to have the Sarcophagus torpedo launcher!

Yes, and I came here wondering if perhaps it affects all weapons...but it's just more noticeable on Discovery Phasers since they're pulses on a beam weapon.

Like all beams were subtly affected in ways but since beams are well...beams and not pulses you just don't really notice any difference except with the missing being really different.

How were all the beams effected in the game? Can you describe it? I haven't noticed any beam changes. You might be right, your idea is in alignment with my sense that there's a coding issue which screwed up the weapons fx. I am having a hard time believing this would have been intentional.

Still no comment from Devs... and the last update had a lot of fixes big and small but not even a mention of this as a known issue.

After playing for a while with the new Disco Phasers i would prefer the bring back the pre-AoD Versions and use the AoD Versions as Heavy cannons for the Disco Time.

Also I dont get why the Kelvin / Disco Phasers and Torpedos have much better hit effects then every other weapon in the game (this nice litte explosions)

Yeah the “new” look is just terrible, it’s like a smudged line or something when before you had an awesome pew pew lazor effect going on.
Please change them back. Now they look nothin like the on screen version, just some random sci if blasters.

Because they are newer. Most of the beam VFX has barely been touched since the game launched.
I actually just noticed it myself when playing back an ISA run video I made of my Sarcophagus Dreadnought with Sensor-Linked cannons, not only are they cool VFX but actually act as light sources too.

Well when you miss with a beam now it stretches off into space beyond your target...it never used to do that ever if I recall in all the time I've been playing in STO.

I really glad that the developers create new content for the game but an update for the older effects would also be nice

Yes, thank you for this topic. I really don't like the new visuals for the Sensor Linked weapons. They were perfect as shown in the show and very unique. I just got the Crossfield this weekend from the Infinity box but knowing the change that was made, I wasn't as excited to deck it out in Sensor Linked gear. If there are folks that like the new look, great but I know there's a lot of people who liked the old look, can we get different variants? Like says a Standard Sensor Linked variant and a 23rd Century Sensor Linked variant?

i rather like the new discovery phaser FX, they now don't look like blue turbolasers, the sound effect though is a bit flat and don't have a beam overload variant in fact i don't think there is any difference between a standard beam shot and an overload shot both audio or visual.

OK. I'm convinced now that I have the 'old effects.' I have 5 sensor linked and one Disco era DBB on the leveling pack ship. I see no visual difference between these two. They blast quick short blue laser bolts. The only difference I see is mine aren't as bright - probably due to graphics settings.

While they're not accurate for the show, I like them.

I was actually wondering how to keep using them on my disco alt as I level. I want to keep him in disco ships using those phasers.

I had an issue where at first they didn't appear to be scaling. Bore recently I re-tested by Walker builds on 3 alts of different levels, and the stats are now clearly showing that they are scaling, but only in Space Zones. Ground Zones show no stat adjustment. To be clear, this is in reference to the DSC weapons that came on the T1-4 Walker when Claimed.

I hope after this patch, the visual fx for them are corrected.

Btw anyone noticed that the beams become totally weird and stretched when you miss the targets?

i see that a lot and that includes when i am moving the camera around while they are firing.

on a seperate note: the discovery weapons from the starter pack walker prototype aren't upgradable still despite the patch log saying it was fixed.

The weapons that come with the DSC ships are auto-scaling as you level. So they don't need any Tech Upgrades! ;)
That said I can't speak for the other DSC ships or the weapons they come with. I will have to revisit my Malachowski later. But I did notice the BA's fx seeming a bit off lately. I have some captains using a mix of AoD & AoY/23rd century phasers. I have a Ferengi at T3 using a Walker with DSC BAs and Ferenginar Plasma.

Again, I hope after this patch, the visual fx for the DSC beam weapons are corrected/fixed.

I know my guys, its really disheartening and it sounds so silly to be this let down over something silly like weapons effects, BUT the phasers in Discovery are so unique and kind of tie TOS to Wrath of Khan in a way, I really loved them in the show and I loved them in the game at first.. until this "downgrade". I wonder if they had to make htem like this to add the explosion effects from phaser impacts. If the old phasers would take away explosion effects would you guys trade that in? I dont care as much about the explosion impacts as I do about having the old screen accurate phasers back.

I'd say you are just not that attentive. And I don't mean to offend, but maybe you genuinely didn't pay attention or miss the difference because they never struck you as memorable. I'd say it's improbable a single client has different effects.

I tend to agree with amgrytarg here. I also mean no offense at all, but lets be honest- some of us are not as gifted with aesthetics and don't notice certain things. Then again maybe by some fluke your weapons graphics might not have changed. I doubt that is the case and I tend to think you just haven't noticed. Just go on Youtube and look at Discovery ship weapons from earlier in the year and compare them to the ones now. You'll see the difference. :)

I would prefer old phaser plus new explosion effects. I really hope this game will get some general visual upgrades for space combat. This could also please new players, keep the game a little more modern after all the years. The Kelvin and Disco weapons shows it can be done

When I did the FTFO, mine were still sluggish & sloppy; another player in the team had pre-AoD fx, and were still proper rapid-fire bursts like in the earlier vidclips.

No offense taken. I'm just trying to figure it out. I looked carefully at the 2 videos posted here. My phasers are short blue bursts that look more like cannons than beams around 1/2 to 1 inch long. They are very fast. Are they as fast as the good video? Maybe. Maybe 10% slower. They look nothing like the long rays in the bad video.

I was very pleased when I first saw them because they are so different. And they haven't changed. I started late with the AOD ship. I've had it about 3 weeks?

Mine are either stuck or fluctuating between the Vaadwaur Pol & Emitter-Linked Phaser 'norms', but fatter & slower for the most part. Have any of the Devs mentioned this yet?

That is the effect they seemed to end up as, I was playing the Delta section as my DSC character, and was like "I can't tell the difference between their weapons or mine visually anymore"

Also what's with the white cores of the Phasers and Disruptors? Weapons fire on the show tends to be either a solid blue or solid green depending on weapon type.

APOLOGIES Sheldon, there's been a misunderstanding. You are right, the phaser bursts have not changed since the AoD Release. See you've been saying "The phasers haven't changed for me" and we all assumed you realized we were talking about the Discovery phasers since BEFORE AoD. That's what we have been saying. If you look up old videos or just watch the show, the beams are much brighter, thinner and longer and travel VERY fast, almost instantly from emitter to enemy, kind of like real beams would!

Surprisingly the devs have not addressed this and far smaller problems get prioritized in the updates. Actually I'll correct myself, maybe the "smaller" problems are easier to fix and that's why they get done first, but so far they haven't mentioned even noticing this. It's pretty bad... they look like the words weapons in the game now. ANd sometimes they go really stubby and slow moving when you fly close toward an enemy ship... and of course then when they miss they turn in to an elongated distorted line that extends in to space. It's such a huge eyesore and so inaccurate I am shocked that they havent menntioned it at all yet. I hope it's not because they intend to keep it like this. All that attention to detail with the ships and uniforms etc. sounds and for this to be blundered seems strange/silly, especially when the phasers WERE PERFECT before.

I would hope it wouldn't be a difficult thing to change back. Now if they would consider having the two different variants then sure but I'd just like to hear something from the dev's. I mean the change really surprised me cause if there's one thing you can't argue, they really captured the accuracy in look and sound of the phasers on the show.

They may be working on it discretely; on a recent run of B@BS, they were almost back to normal, but not quite.

for me its the opposit. i upgrade them because i dig the old look

For the Beams, I have alts parked in 2256 and using Account Bank to transfer what they buy from the 2256 vendors. I was not aware of there being a different torp from standard photon torps; I will look into it later.
