it would seem that the xbox player population is almost non-existent. is it the same on PS4? are the consoles just a failure and support for them will be dropped the way mac was?

Well the last few days i have been standing in q for ground elites for more then 40 min before one pops (On PC that is), is it because of the random task force, is it broken i dont know but it sucks!
I dont want to do random on advanced, its just to easy but i cannot be the only one right?
    So whats going on?!

I have recently come back few weeks now and the last time I played I would click on a q and it would pop a min later, but I have noticed I can now be waiting 10-40mins!!! this is PC tho... I think STO has very low numbers playing right now that or the Q system is broken.

On PS4 the population has been steadily dropping.

I suspect that its mostly due to the queue bug that has made a joke of both the gamma waiting zone and queues in general.

When even the theoretical high population areas like ESD have been struggling to have more than one instance active it makes the workaround harder to do. 90 minutes for 3 CC runs during the event was about as high as my threshold got.

Allegedly it's been fixed but they've decided to hold the fix back until the disco patch despite it being a core gameplay mechanic and despite the breach event running when the dev claimed they fixed it (see the bug reports section of the forum)

I didn't think that Elites were part of the RTFO system.

For the Xbox I suspect it's a combination of people playing the breach and the queue bug that's causing the low numbers.

With the breach event done more players will make their way back to other queues....but I suspect the release of a fix for the queue bug will help get numbers back up. As long as they don't leave it too long and drive too many players away.

I don't know that it's a 'failure' per say, but honestly.. I have never played on console so I can only go by what I have heard from other players. The consensus though does seem to be that the console population is significantly smaller then the PC population. If you play the console during 'off peak' hours.. yeah.. you'll probably be waiting a while.
I didn't think that Elites were part of the RTFO system.

And you are correct, RTFO's are Normal or Advanced only. Honestly though, I think that's a good idea, outside of maybe Bug Hunt and Brotherhood of the Sword, I would never even attempt elites in public groups. If you're trying to queue for elites, you're going to have much better luck asking in one of the DPS channels because most players won't touch Elites in Pug Groups. Personally, I only run them in premade groups. I can carry a bad team in advanced, but when it comes to carrying a team in Elite.. I'm just not that good.

On PC, at least you can depend on the Random TFO's, they usually pop in seconds.

    Insert witty signature line here.

Many Players feel Elites just aren't worth the hassle - especially on a Random queue. And ground in STO isn't all that popular overall to begin with.

Remember discovery hasn't dropped for us on console yet...will come next week. So we literally just finished the breach event and the crystalline one before that...two queue events in a row right before a new release drops.

A slow period where players are taking a break from the queues is not unexpected. Especially with all the queue changes coming.
I think it'll pick up again soon.

Besides, consoles really open the market up for a lot of casual gamers to try it...can't see that being stopped any time soon.

they removed the display to show how many folks are in que for each mission. doesnt look good when you look and see 0 across the list.

There's also the fact that Spider-Man dropped for the PS4 not that long ago, and the B.E.T.A test for Fallout 76 is off-and-on for all platforms (last Beta date is Thursday, then it goes to full release on the 14th), and somewhere in there is/will be Red Dead Redemption 2 (I don't play RDR, so haven't been keeping track of the sequel's release info), and you can only play one game at a time on the XBox, so...

I've never thought of the typical console player as a 'permanent' type of thing. They play a game for a while then the next one comes out and they play that. Console games and sequels come out at a much faster rate than PC ones. If STO was a pure console game we'd probably be on STO3 by now.

Steam is alot like consoles and someone had a poll about 'How many Steam games do you have?" and a large percentage was over 50 games. If someone's going through dozens of games, your chances of keeping them as a regular player is pretty small. There will always be that 'new shiny toy' drawing their attention.

or maybe the casual playerbase, which most on here had always said is a very smallo minority, ain't a minority at all, and simply ar not doing anything but doffing and admiralty. me personally, i run the battlezones, get the marks toward tier 6 and then shut down

XBox was doing OK until VIL ruined the ques. If they really are sitting on a fix until EsTeeDee arrives they are making a big mistake.

I think they are rebuilding the Console queue system, as it's going to have the RTFO options, so it's gonna be the 19th/20 November when Dsc releases.
