Idea for visuals

Since we can change the visuals of shields/engines/deflectors, was thinking of suggesting adding that feature to weapons. We got a few different types of weapon visuals (given only a small number so far), that we can get the ability to change these. Now it'll have to have a restriction of having to be same energy type, so can not give disruptors visuals of phasers or plasma (and yes that even means can't change ap to a less annoying visual).

The reason I was thinking of this was with my new Discovery capt. I am using Discovery pulse phasers, but would like to put the quantum phase phaser on ship, but want to keep the visual of the my phase phasers. There is also the Kelven phasers, and other pulse weapon visuals that other people would like to keep on curtain ships.

Edit: I see everyone is misunderstanding what I have said in this post. I clearly stated that a restriction would be "SAME ENERGY TYPE". In other words CAN NOT have phasers looking like disuprtors, but a phaser such as Quantum Phase Phaser Beam can look like a Discovery Pulse Phaser Beam

    Honestly, the big visual changes I want are a huge reduction in effect spam (many BOff abilities dont need effects) and I would LOVE beam consolidation... I was always a big fan of the Galaxy firing 1 or 2 ultra powerful beams rather than 9364389576923 beams of meh strength. Would be purely a graphical thing as the game could computer each beam's damage, hit, etc and then just add them all together and graphically show a single beam...

    But, barking up that tree for years... I know when the goose is cooked.

    I am all for this, but those who still PvP will probably whine how it will ruin PvP if they cannot tell their enemies damage type immediately. As if PvP isn't already ruined.​​

    I can see the reasoning for not allowing players to change the weapon type visuals, PvP for one, dead or not it is still part of the game and allowing a player to make their APs look like plasma instead just wouldn't be right.

    However it would be nice if they would at least allow us to change the visuals within a weapon type. I happen to love the look of my new DSC phasers but I want to be able to use other phasers without spoiling the visual. I can't throw my Quantam in there and still maintain the look and sound I like. And the one mis-matched phaser cannon on my Kumarri also totally spoils the looks of my CSV.

    Did you "NOT" read my post? I had stated that a restriction would be "SAME ENERGY TYPE", meaning phasers with phasers, ap with ap, phasma with plasma, ect.

    CBS has already said no to this because they want phasers to look like phasers, has been asked for numerous times and this is what Cryptic tells us.

    With the additions of the different space weapons FX, I think we should have the ability to choose how we have them look, kinda like how we do with the UI (I.E. If you are Klingon but don't like all the red, you can choose Starfleet UI. With the Space weapons FX do the same, You have the standard Phaser Arrays but like the FX of the new ones, go into an option and change it.). What does everyone else think? Could this even be possible?

    First off there is already a thread about this, I know because I posted in it earlier.

    Second CBS says no...because it would cause confusion and they want phasers to look like phasers.

    Lol, glad I am not the only one thinking this. Also they can keep the "beam type" the same. I.E. If you have Phaser Banks, you can't have Phaser Beam Array visuals. I just don't understand why it would be THAT big of a problem. It's a visual thing, just like you said with the deflectors/shields/engines. Does it change anything about how much DPS they can throw down? No, Just the look of it.

    Even the issue of pvpers wanting to be able to tell what energy type they are fighting against, which is strange as right now with all the variant types within the major energy types (plasma, phaser, disruptor, and such) can they even tell outside of checking what kind of proc they are being hit with. Though since most pvp in the game is instanced away in specific maps it might be just a matter of working how to code the pvp-maps to dis-able the visual change to the weapons on the ships, though they could also implement a feature in the options to disable the visual change comp side.

    I can see the point of not wanting to have phasers look like disruptors as a overall factor, but than adding in the additional sub-types of each energy type that have visual an color differences that can give them a look similar to another energy type is an odd choice. I would personally want to see a feature like a visual slot, which I would hope would have a slot for each weapon type you have slotted on your ship actively, which would be tied to specifically the energy/weapon type of the given item in the visual slot. So slotting a pulse phaser cannon would change only the look of phaser cannons, as you would need to slot a pulse phaser beam to change the look of phaser beams, and lso true of mines/torps too.

    I agree in every one of the many threads created about this.

    Some ideas proposed in other threads:
    - "unify beam colors" command (like unify dye armor color command in SWTOR and others)
    - visual slot for weapons
    - per-weapon use of another weapon as a consumable to copy its visuals (you take an episode reward omni, feed it a standard phaser weapon, the standard one is destroyed and the reward omni copies its visuals)

    I'd pay zen for any of these options.

    Keeping with the idea of visuals being customization, we talk alot about the ships an space items (weapoins, and such), but what about other areas. Like on ground it would be nice to be able to choose what visual you have displayed for a weapon you are using of a given type, like how I personally dislike the later visual design of phaser on ground compared to the earlier ones. Similarly I prefer the repeater plasma pistol design to the normal pistol design, along with liking the romulan plasma mini-gun design. I could imagine that special designs like some of story mission designs, or the rep plasma flame thrower designs would not be able to be switched/used on other weapons.
