Why is the warp effect locked to character and not to ship?

lexusk19lexusk19 Member Posts: 1,407 Arc User
If your an AoY toon you get certain button click sounds and warp effects, if your standard you get more TNG style, if your TRIBBLE you get TRIBBLE effects. But my question is, why is your warp effect bound to your character?

I am getting a bug? Feature? That when I go to warp in my new TRIBBLE ship, it starts to play the warp sound of TRIBBLE, then does the TNG style of warp and sound. Its really irritating. Surely this should be something we can swap? Like we can with the color palate?

I agree. I would like to have the matching warp for my Science vanguard vs the TNG style. I'd also love to move my established toon to the TRIBBLE UI and sounds, but again restrictions.

Yeah, it should be something we can select and change around.

If I remember correctly it's because transporter and warp effects are emotes that are hard-wired to the faction you choose. It's a game engine limitation they can't overcome.

Feds no matter their background should have that warp nacelle flash and do a discovery warp without the strange coloration on the hull, that goes for every era. your ship is after all going from zero to light speed in less than a second, so it would be an instant flashout since your ship would be half way across the sector by the time you picked it up on scanners.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Then how do the Kelvin ships have the correct warp outs?

If they have (I don't gave any) then it's a good question and the faction thing might not be accurate. It's probably not worth the hassle then, just like there are no era appropriate fleet support/holo fleet/security escort pets.

The acronym you're looking for is DSC. No other show has the Star Trek portion included in the acronym and neither does Discovery.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Well right now it it starts to play the appropriate charge up to warp sound we hear in the show, but then right as it gets to the jump, it switches to the standard ship warp instead of the Disco jump noise. Its half right and half wrong. Sounds really bad to xD

Yeah, it does the nice charge up and then you see the trails behind the nacelles like we see in Into Darkness.

Ok, this is a bug now... I just tested and the Disco warp charge up plays for every one of my ships. No matter which type, I hear the loud winging up charge from the show and then the standard TNG warp out sound.

No, no it isn't. You don't tell me what to look for, and the harder you try to, the more obstinately we're going to dig in.

Nope. I'll keep on doing it mate. And the more you dig in the more I'll keep doing it. Won't that be fun?

Others also didn't consist of only a single word outside of Star Trek, nor did they normally lead with "Star Trek" as their name. The first show to start to do that was Voyager, but it didn't lead with "Star Trek", it was just called "Voyager", and STV was already taken by STV.

Hmm, so Voyager and Enterprise weren't single words?
And the second bit is an outright lie. As you know because you're not blind (blind stupid maybe, but not actually blind) all series have the words Star Trek as part of their logos except Enterprise until it change to also include the Star Trek portion.

You've actually had that exact point pointed out to you twice now on Reddit but you're still claiming it. How exactly are you this bad at learning?

So no. Voyager wouldn't be STV to anybody. The series with multiple word names take the initial letter from the subtitle part to form their acronym and the single word series simply take letters from the key syllables. The exceptions are TOS which is not actually subtitled and the KT which is not named as such in the titles of the films and only has a two letter acronym (lest I've not actually seen TKT used before).

My Kelvin ship is in it's box waiting for it's turn in the trait mill, but the Annorax definitely does have a custom warp animation. It's possible to have warpouts per-ship.

And for that matter it's obviously not true they can't change transporter effects either, because they just changed them two years ago with AoY, so that boffs now refer to the player's origin instead of their own (no more multicolor beam-outs).

They could change these to refer to the ship or a choosable item instead of player origin if they wanted to. Not much point guessing why they haven't done that, though.

I'm really baffled as to why we don't have ship appropriate warp animation and sounds. Of all the things that Cryptic talks about, this is one detail they just overlook.
