Recently got a Gorn Engineering alt (with a somewhat tactical skill focus) to max level and was looking for a good C-store ship for him. Wanted to try something new and I've already done a lot of raptors on Kdf characters so thought I'd go with a cruiser-type ship; thought the tactical or engineering flagships might be a good fit but from what I've heard they aren't that good anymore so not entirely sure where to go here. Anyone have any suggestions?
(Before you all say it, I know the Kurak is a very good option for a battlecruiser, but I already have the Arbiter on Fed side and I kinda feel like it'd just be more of the same; I'd go with it if it was really the best option by a wide margin, though)

If you're making a beam boat style cruiser, the Flagships are perfectly fine. People just don't like them because beam style boats just doesn't seem like it fits with the Klingon Style. If you like that though, the Flagships are actually quite good and the 3 pack comes with a very useful console set.
Some other good ones to consider for beam cruisers are the Klothos class tactical Miracle Worker, the Ty'Gokor Command Cruiser, or as mentioned above.. the T6 Vor'Cha is a pretty nice ship.
The kurak has a killer trait though so it may still be worth it.
If I can ask a followup, does anyone know any good beam/cannon builds for the flagship? Beam is probably going to be better I know but I do kinda like the idea of a big cannon ship, if it's workable at all.
kurak for the trait alone makes it worth the purchase on the KDF side. that's only reason I bought it. same with most of the t6 ships they have made past couple years. buy get the trait then go back to my T5U tor'kaht as good as the t6 is Its still missing something that the t5u has. and I even have the fleet version of the t6 aswell and still went back to the t5u. it is that good.
as far as the bortas goes. if you wanna fly with beams may as well go back fed side. I have all three and so many other ships just outclass it. only people that really seem happy with it is fed lovers. who are used to flying around in space whales.
yikes sorry to see this. well it is actually workable but that all it will be workable your going to have to put so much into turn ability your not going to have much console space for anything good.
I'd highly recommend going with one of the Competitive Wargames Reputation engines then, with which each type has a trigger gives a burst of speed and turnrate. For cruisers/battlecruisers I usually go with the Fortified version that triggers off hull healing and shield healing, since they can usually fit a fair bit of.
Beyond the engines, it's fairly standard Dual Heavy or Dual (if you grab the Lockbox ability Kemocite Laced Weaponry I) Cannons up front, turrets in the back.
I would definitely go with a beam build on that, if you wanted cannons then there were better choices. The Tactical Flagship is a big, slow moving ship that does much better with Beams.
What type of build are you looking for? The ship can really do just about any of your basic beam builds.. I run an Odyssey on my Fed that has the same bridge officer layout and I run it with an Aux2Bat setup. What kind of budget are you looking at? Do you have access to the T6 Breen Raider from the last winter event? It has a good trait to use with an Aux2Bat setup. If not, that's fine.. it's still doable, just asking. Are you progressed through reputations? Do you have Lobi? are big ticket consoles from the exchange possible for you?
Basically, you're going to be looking at either 8 beams or maybe 7 beams with the Borg Omni Beam if you do the 2pc set. I would recommend the Elite Fleet Intervention Protomatter Deflector from the Fleet Colony, Prevailing Fortified Impulse Engines, Elite Fleet Plasma Integrated Warp Core, and Prevailing Innervated Resilient Shield. Another more simple alternative is to get all 4 pieces from the Iconian Reputation.. that's a good choice as well. If you don't know what any of these are, just let me know.
One particularity I do have is that even in full beam build I try to squeeze in at least one torpedo; just feels more balanced to me and the various procs I think can support energy weapon builds well. Plus there's the starship trait that supports having a torpedo or two as well. Kinda would like something with that although I know a lot of the best build just go with one weapon type.
One thing which you can do if you want to go cannons, is to use single cannons. I use single cannon builds on some of my fed cruisers and it works like a charm.
You can also mix single cannons and a single wide arc dual cannon.
The combination is unusual since cannons are usually associated with spike damage and a single cannon build is geared towards sustained firepower.
Single cannons tend to be cheap on the exchange so it should be easy enough to pick some up and test them.
T5U Tork? Maybe i'm missing it, but which ship is that?

On Klingon side i have a bit of a love/hate relationship with raptors. To be more precise i cannot get them where i would like them with performance. Raiders, pilot vessels, cruisers, FDC and carriers pose no problem but raiders elude me to this day.
I see i made an error there. I meant to say that i can play raider (e.g. BoP) just fine, but Raptors keep giving me difficulty.
Just cannot seem to find the right spot for firepower and survivability for that class.
