Discovery plagiarism

Isn't doing a season based on discovery a really bad idea? everything in that show was plagiarised so bringing that content into STO would make STO liable for lawsuits, could this be such a terribly bad idea that it could get the game shut down?

If there was plagiarism, maybe. But that is most likely not the case, as was already pointed out in the last thread on the topic.
And I suspect it wouldn't lead to the game shutting down, at worst, it would lead to removing the content again and paying some kind of fee/compensation. (Though I suspect that Cryptic itself wouldn't be liable here, since they acted in good faith, and CBS would have to pay for it.)

Even if it is true (which I doubt) it will be settled. Dude wants money, if he has a case he'll get it.. otherwise he won't even make it to court.

Either way, this guy isn't shutting down Discovery or STO.
    Insert witty signature line here.

personally I liked TRIBBLE however looking at that indie game and the content of discovery the links are very clear, theres no way you can deny that TRIBBLE ripped off tardigrades, best result would be a cash settlement by CBS so we can continue to enjoy the discovery and STO

    To provide more detail:

The character that the author of the "Tardigrades" game alleges resembles Michael Burnham has one trait in common with her. She's black. She isn't the protagonist, she isn't even important. "Yolanda" is basically a janitor.

The character he claims resembles Stamets is a beefy workman who is blonde. The only thing he shares with Stamets is that he's a blonde white guy. He's not homosexual, he's not an engineer, he's not even quirky as far as I know. Blonde hair, blue eyes. PLAGIARISM!!!!

The character that resembles Hugh Culber is TRIBBLE, and is a person of color. He's not the same race as Culber, and while he is in a homosexual relationship, it isn't with the character that resembles Stamets. He isn't a doctor, and as far as I know, he doesn't get murdered?

The strongest point in the whole thing is that there is a space Tardigrade that teleports around the universe. A lot of comparisons are made between Ripper and the tardigrade in the game, but, I mean...that's what tardigrades look like. The only thing unique about it is that it's blue, and the one in Discovery -isn't- blue. It's a real animal, they just made it big. Even if the Discovery writers were inspired by the game's visuals, that wouldn't be sufficient for a plagiarism claim. If taking one element of an existing story (giant teleporting space tardigrade) and expanding on it in a new and different direction was worthy of plagiarism, then every author of everything ever is facing serious legal issues.

This thing is going to get thrown out of court with such high velocity it will probably punch a hole in an adjacent building. I know a lot of people don't like some of the creative decisions Discovery made. I don't like a lot of them, myself. But this lawsuit is unfounded trash.

And that's being NICE about it... If you get mean you'll point out how few things in the game are actually new ideas and how Anas Abdin deserves to get sued for ripping off Dune, Star Gate, Star Wars, and Aliens....

You seriously think the Disco writers went out and ripped off the concept from an indie game? They can barely be bothered to rip off Star Trek.

LoR came closer to plagiarism with its romulan plot than TRIBBLE did with the tardigrade

STO isn't canon, and neither are any of the books.
