not much reason to play this "expan"... I guess they want to file as a new "season" instead. another fed toon with a new tutorial... since they are giving away a free char slot... I'll make one play it then delete and make another rom-kdf to farm DO and Dil.

there is a part of me that is hoping that there won't be one for "age of discovery" since we just had a gamma pack ^^;
If there is no ship pack, then it might mean there is no Discovery Recruitment Event as well. Might just create a new character to run the new tutorial and delete it if that is the case.
No ship pack? That's really disappointing. Why make a DSC toon when you can't fly a DCS era ship past tier 1? Yeah, there's the Walker and Crossfield, but I was hoping to see some new ships for this season.

They have more ships coming. Remember that an initial content drop isn't the end of the content. It's just what they have finished.

Yeah, I have no doubt they'll release DCS eventually, there are plenty to pick from, it's just a shame we won't get them with DCS characters.
I figure since it's not really an expansion, there is also no expansion ship pack to buy. New ships will probably be released as regular C-Store releases, month after month.
If there was a big pack coming, I think they would have announced it already. Delta Rising and Agents of Yesterday Packs were announced months in advance of the actual release.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
I'm surprised that there's no ship announcements beyond the Hurq Lockbox/Lobi ships. While a full Gamma Vanguard sized pack was likely too much for the amount time they had prior to releasing AoD, I would expect at least a AoD Federation and Klingon two-pack to have been ready for this, especially given there are more ships with art seemingly complete in the new queue TFO besides just the starter AoD ship (One additional Fed and two Klingon, IIRC). I suppose there's still time to announce something, but kinda odd if there wasn't anything end-game (or even for more than a few levels) for the new people coming here interested in Discovery if they're not willing to drop down the coin to get the Lockbox/Lobi ships from before. Bad enough the lack of free and leveling ships, but no end-game C-Store too?
This first Age of Discovery content drop is not an expansion. It's closer in size to a new season release, although we're moving away from those terms as well. The idea in the past was that we would do bigger drops every few months, and then go quiet afterwards except for weekend events until the next Season, Half Season, or Expansion. Age of Discovery, and indeed all of our content moving forward, is going to come out more frequently - for example, you can expect a new TFO a few weeks after this drop - but without as many giant drops in content. This tradeoff means you'll have more new stuff more consistently, but it also likely means something on the scale of Victory is Life isn't coming again any time soon.
Age of Discovery has everything in it that we announced right at the start:
Reimagined starting experience for Discovery Captains
Two new episodes
Tier 6 Reputations
Random TFOs
We've announced all that, so I'm hyping you up with story stuff now. As for "ships you can buy," there'll be some more information on that later this week and early next.

The content isn't even released yet. Why sweat over the fact they've not announced new ships!? There's still 6 days to go yet! Although Kael has said there will be news later, which is inline with normal procedure over releasing ship details a couple of days before release.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

There is a difference between releasing a few ships and releasing a Pack for a new faction. Every new faction had at least a month between when the Pack was first announced and when the faction went live.

To be fair: DSC in STO is not a faction, but a "starting experience".
Same could be said about TOS Starfleet or any of the other factions, but it got a ton of C-Store ships and a few other goodies. Even Klingons and Romulans could be considered as a 'starting experience' since everyone eventually does the exact same content.
