I want to come back...

I want to come back to STO. I forget what happened originally I think I got caught up in warfighting in EVE Online and just never got around to it... I did duck in a year or so ago? But saw that I was stonewalled a tier or two from end game ships. I'm willing to brave it and I don't mind hard work but I never could upgrade past a certain point since everything seems to require me to be in a fleet to progress. So how does end game work now? And does anyone have tips on how to progress past the mandatory fleet point? The reason I got stonewalled is I never can find an active fleet.

    Ok, a few things..

Joining a fleet is in no way required, if anything it's less needed now then it was in the past. Fleets have access to some pretty nice items, but in recent years we have seen a sharp increase in the quality of rewards from missions and now fleet gear isn't as necessary as it used to be. That being said, it's rather easy to get in a fleet if you want to, fleets are constantly recruiting and if you want to go that route it should be very easy to join a fleet.

The best thing I can suggest if you have been away for a while is to make a fresh character once you return. Start at the beginning and enjoy all the content you will have in front of you. You will have plenty to keep you occupied and it will make it easy to re-acclimate yourself with the game, get used to the game play and learn what style you like to play. Don't worry about end game right now, take your time.. have fun and enjoy the game. Once you get higher in levels, then you can start to focus on your end game path.

If anything, the game is free.. you have nothing to lose by giving it a try. It's a fun game and probably the best 'free to play' game out there. It's worth giving it a shot. Good luck, and feel free to ask if you have any questions. If you have any problem finding a fleet, let me know and I can help you out.

Hope to see you out there.

In December the Winter Event will let you get an account-wide T6 ship for running 25 daily ice races on a single character, which takes less than 5 minutes a day. But as mentioned that's "nice to have" not "needed to play the game."

Good call, the giveaway event ships are all more then capable of doing any content and they're free.

Shortly after the Winter Event will be the Anniversary Event so soon we'll have 2 new free ships. Now would be a good time to make a new character and get back in to STO. Play at a casual pace and by the time you're ready you'll have a couple good options that will also have the total price tag of $0.

Well welcome back to STO. :)

My suggestion is that you relax and take it easy for some time. Come back, take a look around and see what you like.

Best things I can offer would be to join the fleet I’m in. All of us can play as we want; we have no obligations and get access to everything and it does not matter how good you are. If you in for performance and want to push the boundaries my friends would also like to welcome you to the STO league. We have channels for all performance levels player can achieve filled with lots of info and guidance.

My signature will lead you the way if you like.

Everyone here has given very sound advice and they always do. I wish you luck in what you decide to do.

The Event ships are more than capable of handling any normal or even elite content in this game, depending on how you are capable of building it. The game is loads of fun and you can play it however you like, when you like and you don't have to spend a penny of real money to get anything, if you're patient enough.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

Considering how often these forums are filled with negativity I really liked reading that post. I agree and thank you. :)

You're very welcome. I try to always be positive and uplifting when I can. There's just no reason to always be a negative ninny. Negativity just does nothing to help at all.

And I mean it. You guys give very sound advice for the most part. Advice I even try to use myself.

seriously if you have a fed, roll a klink. now is the thie to drop the dime on a C-stor ship. the Recon / New Orleans /Lafayette is possibly the best ship in the game. there is nothing it cannot do with a CDR tac Lcdr sci and uni an you can advance to end game without a fleet

Roll a ROMULAN Klingon. Two birds with one stone!

The Romulan story missions are great, I just played them again with my new Liberated Borg captain. But the KDF story missions are a lot of fun too if you get into the viking warrior mentality instead of playing as a goody two-shoes fed.

Well, that advice covers ships nicely. So I'll just add my two cents here. Buy the pilot escort or 31st century or the cardassian ship bundle. Those traits really are convenient and those ship bundles can be used by ANY TOON no matter if KDF Rommie, Feddie.

Pilot escorts just have devastating firepower and are a hell of a lot of fun to use.

But you also want to do many STF's for personal reputations.

Why should you do personal reputations in this game? Fair question. The answer is... Because you want dilithium and high quality gear not to mention costumes for your toon and ship AND TRAITS. Besides when you are; let's say sick with a cold or in a hurry, you want dilithium and can't be bothered to play, exchange some marks and elite marks and that's that then... Less than a minute from the moment you log in and go back to your business. Besides those traits are sometimes very funy and useful, let's say the romulan sensor assault or the iconian refrequency that heals you a little as you do damage.

And let's face it, the personal reputation space gear looks very nice on some ships, such as the 8472 gear in a temporal dreadnought or the iconian set in an iconian ship.

As for your SKILLS... Do duty officer assignments in the dyson sphere and the undine space battle zone and do the admiralty assignments. That gives a lot of XP and you want some of the skills such as Intelligence or temporal specs. Very handy.

Send a mail in game if you have any questions to me or the other captains. Community is nice in STO... As long as you stay away from the politics and such.

Or, if you embrace playing as an Orion, you walk around rolling your eyes at the Klingon idiocy while getting paid by the Empire to fix the problems the Klingons are too dumb to figure out. :p
