Ship 'customization'?

I just found out that I had a few "New Character slots" available, so I decided to put myself through the whole "starting out process", all over again!

Anyway, the character I created, has brought Captain Taggart's ship home", to Spacedock. Reported to Adm. Quinn, who directly 'commissioned', into Starfleet, as a Lieutenant, and ordered to assume command of the 'late' Captain Taggart's ship.

Now, it's at this point, that things start going "around the bowl, & down the hole" The character, is 'ordered' to immediately report to the Spacedock's shipyard to oversee the ship's 'refit' and provision, to be re-deployed in the fleet.

Now here's the thing. When the new Lieutenant is in the shipyard, (s)he, is 'granted' the ability to 'remake' the ship in their desired fashion.

Just how many times can you do this?

The shipyard and tailor used to charge for every costume change, back in ... 2012? but now those changes are free.

Like @coldnapalm said, if you see a zen charge it's because the current set of choices includes something unlocked with a purchase. For ships that means buying another ship, for costumes it means either buying the costume unlock or sometimes buying a theme pack like the Bajoran bundle.

Always check that the cost is 0 before finishing a change in the ship and costume tailors.

I noticed last week that several of my ships now lacked their NCC numbers and were no longer accepting them. Anyone have any idea what gives on that?

Probably bugged. A lot of stuff broke when roms got the ability to fly high tier fed & kdf ships and then even more when ViL launched. Write tickets and pray to RNGesus.

Thank you all, for your prompt responses. I guess, when one reaches 'geezer-hood', one starts to experience the "human equivalent" of, "Bendii's syndrome". I'll have more questions, so please, exercise just a little restraint of criticism, and a bit tolerant patience.

Most of us are always ready to help. Remember, there are no dumb questions. You won't learn things if you don't ask :)
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D
