Me? I'm still waiting for them to fix the Gamma Armor. And I really don't need 12 extra types of Klingons in the game (or even half the amount). And Geko's intended focus on Tilly... well, let's just say I would have made a different choice  All will be forgiven, though, when they give me a Detmer boff.

How the hell did we go from "THE KDF IS UNLOVED, ADD MORE TO THE KDF?!" on the forums to "Twelve new types of Klingons? PASS!"

You didn't see the 10 Forward interview with Geko?! He mentioned there being 12 different tribes/classes/whatever types of Klingons in TRIBBLE, and said we wouldn't maybe get all of those (suggesting we're getting at least several).

Yes, I did. So, why is getting a bunch of new Klingon stuff a bad thing?! Even if we do eventually get all 12 great houses represented through customization options, the KDF would still be down compared to the full span of the FED.

Throw it all in and for those that don't like the original look, kitbash the hell out of it! Use the bits to make what you want, that's the power of STO's customization and imagination!

I don't see Cryptic making more than one or two outfits. Less than 20% of the STO playerbase engage in Klingon content. Star Trek: Discovery treated the Klingons poorly. I really can't see TRIBBLE being a draw for new Klingon players.

There is no money to be made here.

That's a bit simplistic. Remember that the Klingons are the villain faction of Age of Discovery. Characters and combat NPCs have been confirmed. New art assets, appropriate to their full role in the story, are necessary irrespective of even if the KDF faction existed in STO in the first place. Therefore, whatever is made can potentially be repurposed for KDF players. That's a bonus, not the sole justification for development. So, the KDF faction can expect to see more updates than usual. There are other reasons to give them more content than the base scenario of "Less than 20%, so..." It's already being made, might as well get more leverage with it.

This seems to mirror what I've been seeing:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok5l26Fs0LI
Wow. You wouldn't know it from Youtube and other social media. Most of the people who comment either love TRIBBLE or their attitude towards CBS and the show is......
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5b1a-hqvGNI
I have not seen much in between, nor people rolling back their opinion, in fact, it seems the divide is getting wider and worse.
You missed the joke... The joke is that people whine and complain, then watch more. It's like the ending of that scene: "I hate this!" "More?" "Yes, please!"

Or perhaps you missed the anti-war message of "A Taste of Armageddon"
That wasn't anti-war, it was anti-*clean* war, i.e. a fake war that killed people but left the culture and infrastructure intact allowing it to go on forever. Kirk and crew were more than welling not just to rage *real* war to stop it, but to destroy their entire planet while doing so.

The meaning was simple- if you go to war, destroy your enemy completely and rapidly- don't just target part of them. In plain historical terms, WWII, not Vietnam although one would have to remember that all the lessons of the latter wouldn't be clear for half a decade yet.
That's the sort of thing that makes for an ineffective social commentary. Assuming your read is correct that is. I saw it more as an examination of what it means to be "civilized". Shat actually had a pretty good monolog about that. the aliens of the week believed their way of life to be "civilized" because they had eliminated violence from war.... the problem was that their wars still killed millions of people.
And, if you really watch carefully, Anon Seven and Mae Three were borderline boasting "We have been at war for 500 years"....almost proud. Make a war so clean, efficient and prevent collateral damage, and those in power, and possibly some of the masses, will keep on doing it. Looked also like a hidden 'population control' agenda as well on that planet.

Well put, you two. It's easy to keep fighting a war when the casualties are far away, "out of sight, out of mind", as it were. It becomes habitual if you aren't having it pushed into your face every day (e.g. pre-Tet Vietnam, which was contemporary to the series, and most of the War on Terror now). "Support our troops, raaaah! What's for dinner?"

It's much harder to keep fighting a war when you have a situation like World War II. Pearl Harbor, of course, and a U-boat torpedoed an American freighter within eyeball range of Virginia Beach at one point. And there were all the homefront things: war bond drives, recycling drives to get raw materials, the blue stars and gold stars on every other house window. People actually paid attention to the fact that it was still going on.

That's still a radical message, and one that's gotten more topical rather than less.

What about everyone who lives outside the US?

Yeah - have to say, unless anyone who watches via Netflix gets the same, this would be a grossly unfair offer.

I agree with both of you about not being completely fair, but it isn't like similar hasn't happened before with some of Cryptic's "free" ship giveaways to only certain players based upon who knows what criteria or a contest being only for a certain region. I just think the cross-marketing potential for Cryptic & CBS is there just like that most recent Lootcrate & Cryptic partnership.

Could the Internet be amplifying things? If you watch “Chaos on the Bridge” they talk about receiving bags of hate mail, which didn’t stop until around “Best of Both World’s”.
I remember going to conventions at the time and seeing petitions to get TNG off the air because it wasn’t real Trek.

This is quite likely: one of the things about the Internet is that it's both easy to reach lots of different people, and easy to get into an echo chamber where most of the time you're only hearing from the side you already agree with (technical term is "groupthink").

Plus, there's the GIFT principle at work (warning for profanity).

That's a bit simplistic. Remember that the Klingons are the villain faction of Age of Discovery.
I'd rather not remember. I would rather forget. They have two character traits: liar and murderer. Beyond that, they are boring.

There is still no money to be made here. They still have not released the TOS Gorn outfit or the complete Tal'Shiar outfit, so there isn't a guarantee they will release the TRIBBLE Klingon outfit.

As far as TRIBBLE Klingon stuff, I would keep my excitement in check and wait until they ACTUALLY release something.

Fair enough. There are NO reasons to ever make a Klingon in STO. It explains the low player numbers.

I'm not a fan of TRIBBLE. I have seen most of the episodes, they are forgettable, and they blur together like the Walking Dead. People who think they're deep thinkers think TRIBBLE is great, but there is so many problems with plot, tech, canon, I don't even know where to begin. It's too bad they couldn't use The Orville. Even if it's silly, at least it runs slightly more like TNG and not an episode of MTV's RoadRules. The stories feel like a high school play, and the lead story teller is some hipster with teenage societal angst.

    *snip*
A lot of good stuff that I like, too.

In general, what I like about Discovery is that they are telling an ongoing, large story in their first season, and use that opportunity to bring in some twists and surprises. Sure, forum goers and redditors will not be *that* surprised, because they are deeply analyzing (or reading others deeply analyzing everything) everything, but that's great, too - it rewards the observant viewer, and figuring out the secrets ahead of the "official" reveal is its own form of entertainment. I certainly loved it.

Regarding Tilly - I don't really see a strong resemblance to Wesley. Maybe one of the biggest things is that she is more... playful and really shows the joy of doing the things she does. Wesley by comparison often looked way too serious about it all. But it's probably also the writing of how she fits into the story - when Wesley was around, the main bridge crew was often given an idiot ball and were basically acting below expectations. Tilly is a genuine specialist in this story, she is one of the few true experts on the whole Spore Drive theory.

My favorite character however is probably Saru. Both the way he's portrayed, and his personality and story. We haven't had this type of character in Star Trek so far, he feels fresh. I know the writers probably see Burnham as the eventual Captain of the Discovery, but I personally hope he gets that role.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

Throw it all in and for those that don't like the original look, kitbash the hell out of it! Use the bits to make what you want, that's the power of STO's customization and imagination!

All still hugely hamstrung, for customization and imagination. And how long did it take before giving the Bortasqu' kitbashing options some love? And it's still suffering from kitbashing issues! Try meshing the T5-U saucer with a T6 body and see what happens. If you're talking about outfit customization, let's see here...Certain parts are locked out for KDF(New Styled Elegant hair, or Jarok's hair for Orions(except for the "exotic dancer" NPC at the KDF Starbase bar as an example), no Gorn TOS outfit, severely limited color scheme...Even the aliengen options are not as open as you try to sell it as. We can't all use the bits to make what we want, because Cryptic won't open up things like the tailor as much as they COULD.

You questioned why getting a bunch of new Klingon stuff is a bad thing? *points to the inside Federation sabotage job that is the Bortasqu', aka the IKS Get Out and Push* How well received was this jalopy? The cool parts about this ship can be counted on one hand(The bridge, the nifty HoH'SuS BoP pet(when/if it works), the Disruptor Autocannon(when/if it works)). Because new does not necessarily mean "good" or even "great." Because carbon copies in cross-faction bundles does not mean "good" or "great." Because episodes where the redside sounds like a glad-handing yes-man blueside with a few token grunts of "muh honor" does NOT mean "good" or even "great."

The writing for ViL was rushed, and the writers storytold things into a corner, then slapped together a **** resolution to the arc where everyone is slapping each other on the back and high-fiving like best buddies at the end of a Scooby Doo or Care Bears episode.

New does not always mean better. It does not always guarantee "good" or "great."

The past few years have saddened me, with what I have seen, regarding the KDF. I'm not saying your perspective, your exuberance, or your optimism is wrong. I'm merely offering my own opinion, as jaded and broken as it may appear.

Except they aren't, and even Odo admits there are plenty in the Dominion who will resist the reforms.

Except for the dialogue of the people such as Leeta, Martok, Jimmy'Pok, Quinn, D'tan, Quark, Nog, the Tzenkethi NPC, Bashir, Loriss, Old Bajoran Lady, Kira, Kumaarke, Rom, Garak act as I stated regarding the "Friendship is Magic!" feel. Even Odo, somber as he is. The sudden, magical kicking of the Ketracel White habit for the JH toons at the end of the arc, so quickly after getting the fresh fix from Weyoun. To a arc that was about as lengthwise as a cup of coffee. Everyone is still high-fiving, even if Odo knows that he's got some off camera hand-waving to do. As you said in other threads, Home ended things. Resolved and wrapped it all up, with the Dominion and Hive Fleet Leviathan...I mean Hurq' joining the Grand Grouphug Alliance. Six to seven episodes that whoosh right by. It's a recycling of the Iconian arc.

How many of you are excited for what's coming in the Discovery content coming up? Please explain if you care either way.

This is the ship I am excited for: https://aa1a5178aef33568e9c4-a77ea51e8d8892c1eb8348eb6b3663f6.ssl.cf5.rackcdn.com/p/full/93c4b011-beec-4c64-a59b-280ceec4d0e4.jpg

The Sheppard class Frigate is a more sleek inverted version of the Walker class. I hope they give it to us along with some new Discovery weapons with updated sound FX. The FX in game are pretty good but they should be a bit deeper in tone and we need those type 2 hand phasers and some goodies from Lorca's lab of horrors.

I think it would ALSO be VERY smart to give us Cage Era TOS sweater style uniforms along with cage era laser pistols with accurate effects and such. We already have the cage era constitution costume. I think it would fit nicely with the Discovery content.

The USS Glenn is going to give us accurate Discovery ship interiors for my Crossfield and Walker (and hopefully future Sheppard class) ships! YAAAY

I am very happy about this.

There is a documentary on Netflix called “Chaos on the Bridge”. It’s hosted by Shatner and talks about the first two seasons of TNG. In the documentary they talk about the fan backlash and how they received tons of hate mail.

Even though I only liked ToS (especially the first 2 seasons), I don't consider myself part of what has become a toxic nerd cult and I don't call myself a "trekkie". I don't even want to live in the "Star Trek universe". I just play the game because you can do and be whatever the fk you want there. It's a video-game folks, nothing more.

I consider TRIBBLE (I've seen all episodes so far) on the same level of entertainment as everything that came after ToS. It's just mediocre public entertainment - it has good parts and bad parts (and I could care less about canon). The only thing I don't particularly like about TRIBBLE is the "diversity for the sake of diversity" thing, but things could be worse.

Cryptic made a good, although über-buggy game, by taking the best elements from all series and ignoring the bad stuff, and I am sure they will do the same with TRIBBLE.
