While my friend is a stickler for keeping her toons in appropriate ships, uniforms and weapons, I'm not. I will put them in whatever clothing they feel like wearing, any ship they feel like flying and any weapons they feel like using.
And she's fine with that. She knows I'm different and quite eccentric and she accepts that. And I accept that she's 'traditional' when it comes to STO. It's fine, we're two very different people who are the best of friends and we accept each others' quirks.
Now a LTS and loving it.

All of my characters are both mains and resource pylons, all are equal to me. So while I may drop every new character into the Nandi when first getting to level 50 I will eventually find a ship to set them apart from the others.
I love the Nandi. It's a solid ship and I use it as much for missions and stuff as I do for the amenities.
It's one regret that I have with my F2P acct. It was created not long before the past WE, so the main lucked into a Nandi with a Phoenix token, the others don't have one.
Now a LTS and loving it.

That is why I say main and not only ship, of course one uses other ships on their toons, far Star Ship traits and variety, but there is usually one that is the one you see as being the Primary ship.
I tend to outfit everyone in the same ship (or bundle variant) for a while and see if anyone does better than anyone else. For example, everyone flew the Chel Boalg to see if anyone performed better based on whatever career, resources, energy type, and such were available. Same goes for c-store bundle ships.
Exchange/lobi/lockbox ships take a bit more thought.
My FED ENG got himself a snazzy Shuk-din using Tetryon and does pretty well. I'm still sitting on a T6 Jem Recon and Temporal Destroyer because I can't decide who should get them, and I'm not space rich enough to buy one for everyone to test out.
Hmm, the only truly dedicated ship at the moment is my FedRom who's been flying an Adapted Battlecruiser for a long time (was so glad when that got a T6 boost).
If I were to ever get 'done' unlocking traits, most of my Feds would likely end up in a T6 Sovereign or Reliant, my 'KDF main' Orion would be in her Blackguard, and Klee Shay & her crew of Orion dancing girls would be in an alien party boat named the Danceteria Prime (Nandi, or one of the Risian ships. We need a T6 luxury cruiser).
Lol, hard enough for me to keep my 13 characters reasonably equipped, can't imagine trying to keep up the 50 plus some peeps have! I also don't have a favorite ship as of yet, still running through the list of them to max their traits out. For toughness the Breen Razor Dreadnought cruiser is a very tough bird and Paradox Temporal Dreadnought is a nice ride for my Mirror Universe character.
For my main, the Rezreth. I love how it looks, though when RPing with friends and I need a ship bridge, I switch to the Bortasqu' bridge or Lukara(KDF bridge). For my backup main, the Chel Boalg. For my alts, they're slowly transitioning to ships such as the Xyfius, Ryn'kodan, or Breen ships. Or the Karfi. I like the Karfi.
I am definitely one who has to have a 'main' ship for each character. I also have this thing where they all have to have a different 'main' ship. Not sure why, it's just how I am. I have 7 characters and they all have a different 'main' ship. I would list them out, but the list isn't all that interesting.. I just need them all to be in something different as a way to set them apart from one another.
It would feel weird to me having them all in the same ship.
One of my less-used captains got played today and she flies the Xyfius. I took her through a Radiation Scan/Rom Patrol (went through two extra systems besides the ones you need for the scan). She tore up everything in her path. She's running Tetryon beams, the Crystalline torpedo and the Nukara ship set.
No, she isn't running high dps, it's only around 10k. But that tac baby barely broke a sweat running that scan/patrol.
So that's her main ship until something better comes along. She's my FedKling, tac officer. Just running that patrol and some DSEs and stuff and she's up to lvl 62.
Now a LTS and loving it.

52k is too much, it's 4k more than 4x the XP required for the trait unlock. I only went through the trouble to unlock the carrier since it's the only one so far to remotely interest me to play with on my other faction characters, and I am not planning on doing so with the other ships.
1. Cryptic is forcing players to grind/play ships that may not fit their playing style for that T6 Account-Wide Ship Unlock.

2. Also, some players actually prefer to play/enjoy STO in other ways (Ground Missions, Doff, Admiralty System).
Personally, I prefer Exploration, but guess Cryptic took this "feature" out

I was thinking the same thing. I have 19 on my main LTS acct and 3 on my F2P acct. Will probably make more eventually, too.
