Warship too squishy?!

So, yeah, got the new Zen'Hadar warship. And it's a powerhouse alright: 41.2% CrtH and 178.6% CrtD, natively! (On my Rom).

But, erm, it's also rather squishy, it would seem. I mean, not just regular Escort, glass-cannon like squishy, but abnormally so even. I noticed this in the Gamma patrols, where I had constant trouble not getting my *ss handed to me by the Hur'q (on my Jem toon). I figured it was just some shortcoming of my new Jem. Then I tried my lowly T5U bug-ship; and, lo and behold, I barely got a scratch on me! (Several missions in a row)

Funny part is, on my warship, my resists are MUCH higher, both natively (+40% across the board), enhanced by a continual A2D (elongated duration with purple doff) and an APO3/APD1 combo with 2x Zemok. Same space gear and all. And yet, my bugship hardly budges, whereas my warship constantly buckles.

So, what gives? I mentioned this is channel, and apparently I wasn't the only one who noticed this. Anyone else got the same issue?

    I mentioned I had it unlocked on my Rom: ergo, I reached Mastery Tier 6 in already on my Jem.

    It might be level-scaling issues that the different queues are having. CCA almost always takes me down to level 40, which takes out a huge chunk of hull and a fair bit of Skills scale down.

    With the Gamma 'Battle Zone' I sometimes do just fine in the Warship, even just focusing on what I'm doing, but other times it's a huge slog that ends in a failure for the same 'Zone' one after the other. I wasn't keeping an eye on what the level scaling was for the zone, but those are supposed to scale to the average of the players in it, so one might have a better time if some sub-65 players are in it, or possibly the opposite. Same 'Zone' on repeat with the same gear and ship has been on par with what you're describing as being the difference between the two ships. One time my Warship chews through the Hurq' pretty solidly well while taking very little damage, the next run in a row, I'm having to hit the Lukari console (fitted since I had done a CCA right before doing the Battle Zone) and even trying cover the other players to hopefully pool our firepower is an effort in futility.

    THIS! I was wondering what was happening with my squishy ships and I soon discovered that level scaling really affected the survival performance of my ships!


    Except that level scaling doesn't play into it, here. I assumed ppl would realize I was operating under the ceterus paribus condition, where only my ship changed (warship vs. lowly T5U bugship), in the same gamma quadrant patrols. And where my warship was outfitted to have exceedingly more resists even.

    I thought it was me and my setup. but my excelsior can survive better and it has no major inbuilt resists on it at all. and yet the J'H Dread/cruiser goes down in a few hits. it's a glass cruiser.

    I thought it was me and my setup. but my excelsior can survive better and it has no major inbuilt resists on it at all. and yet the J'H Dread/cruiser goes down in a few hits. it's a glass cruiser.

    The Dreadnought Cruiser has a very soft hull for some reason. I have to run Pilot as my secondary so that I have Rock and Roll and Scratch the Paint. For some reason, hull breaches just destroy that Dread, I blew up a Cube that was about 5-6km away.. the core breach killed me from full hull and shields.

    I have since added the Iconian set, pilot secondary, the Best Defense Starship trait and the Repair Crews trait so now it's better.. but it's still very soft for a 'Dreadnought Cruiser.' Out of the box with the Jem'Hadar space set, that thing is flimsy as a sheet of rice paper. :smiley:

    Good point about warp core breaches. That is what keeps getting me killed in my Vanguard ships. I had to change my playstyle to avoid getting point blank like I usually do and always bring high resists/immunities.

    Did the warship first and yes I got whooped a lot, even after the full mastery... on the carrier now and it's much better survival wise. The advanced swarm still get me once in a while but not nearly as much as in the warship.

    I agree the Warship seems more squishy. I've adjusted my tactics so I do more circling to avoid the main swarm. Seems odd as many of my lesser armored ships do much better such as cardassian ones which fly rings around the Hurq and barely get touched. Speed certainly seems to be key in battling the Hurq.

    Is the implication of this thread that:

    1) The Jem warship is squishier than it ought to be at it's stats/hull/res/shield, i.e., bugged (and not actually getting those stats)

    2) At those stats/hull/res/shield the ship is too squishy compared to other ships?

    I confirm this issue. I must say that you gotta share how to reach 41% crth and 178% crtd even on a rom toon as base stats (non buffed).

    But indeed, the Jemmie Warship is very paperish. Unless this was intended, Jemmie ships are way too fragile.

    ^^ The former. Despite insane resists (which ARE being applied, at least in the stats), the hull nonetheless buckles at the least bit of trouble.

    The Jem'Hadar ships' durability might have been deliberately balanced around the fact that you can have both Vanguard Wingmen bolstering your shield hardness and regenerating your hull.

    My Warship has definitely improved since I upgraded my Engineering consoles. Those Mk XII purps were nice when they were level 50 endgame gear, but that's way back in the rear view mirror now. The ship has Tactical Mastery passives instead of the free damage resistance that Cruisers take for granted, but those free stats aren't our only source for damage resistance.

    I have been through enough of the ships, (x2 basically since me and the misses play this game and we have the new ships) to basically say all the new ships seem to be suffering from this "squishy" issue.

    I play on other ships all fine, then i get in the new ships, cardassian or Jem'hadar alike and its flop city.
    I see other people in the same state in public ques, if they are in the new ships they are toast.

    There are some values on those new ships that are way way off somewhere and it needs addressing big time.

    What are your current hull stats? What mods are you running on the Competitive Shields and Colony Deflector (I think both are Re-Engineerable, at the very least the Colony is), as your shield stats appear lower than mine with Mk XV UR Jem'Hadar shields on the Warship?

    At the same time I have to admit that even without the fanciest traits, doffs and equipment, these JH Vanguard ships (well, 3 of them, the carrier is awful) easily outperform all my other builds when it comes to damage.
    So this kinda looks like a necessary balancing move to make them glass cannons instead. I'd however love to see that fragility documented somewhere in the stats. Currently all would seem to indicate they are on par with all other ships when it comes to durability and resilience, while empirically they are not. Again I'm not specifically against that being the case, I just want it to be clear and visible.

    Something is wrong. Before I came across this thread I thought it was just me and went as far as to take screenshots of my stats to try and see what is wrong between ships, still not found anything. I use the same build across all the ships I was levelling up and the warship was exploding left, right and centre. While my other ships with an almost identical build would go the entire queue without blowing up.

    I used more then 2 ships but just as a limited example my dread carrier is 107k hull v 104k for the warship. Both are similar resistance 37% average on the dread and 35% average on the warship. Yet the warship even with an extra 4 shield skillpoints spent was needing an estimated x3 more heals. I just cannot keep it alive. Once last mastery is unlocked its going in the drydock.

    ^^ 'Glad' you guys are having similar experiences. Either it needs fixing, or indeed, as suggested, it needs documenting that these ships are, indeed, a lot squishier.

    At first i blamed it on that level scaling issue.
    But after going through more of my characters and ships since that issue was fixed i cant help but still notice it.
    Because others in STF's are dying so often in the new ships it makes it harder for me even when im in my xindi insectoid (which has always been one of my tougher ships to be honest).
    I was actually finding myself having to pull out of combat in many Infected runs, purely because i was the last one left alive against 7 spheres, a tac cube and an upset gateway.
    There is certainly issues that need resolving, i think ill be giving up on DPS runs for now in public ques anyway, lets just put it that way. XD.
