Can't you test the new Vanguard Ships on Tribble testserver?

i've installed Tribble on my rig and created a new Jem'Hadar toon, but i can't purchase any of the new Vanguard ships - the purchase button is greyed out :'(

do i have to proceed further into the story to "unlock" the new ships?

any help would be appreciated^^

No, the C-Store just isn't available on Tribble. That includes all Dominion Vanguard stuff.

Almost. IIRC, there actually are a handful of players that Cryptic allows to test new ships (under NDAs, I'm sure). Most of us, however, can't, because of the C-Store being disabled on Tribble.

Hardly surprising - can you imagine the scenario if they did allow everyone to test the ship? One very possible scenario would be:

    - STOfan1 logs into Tribble, visits ESD and selects the new Whatever class Battledreadnoughtsciencecruiser
    - STOfan1 puts the best build he can on the ship and plays it for a few days
    - STOfan1 decides that he HATES the new Whatever class Battledreadnoughtsciencecruiser
    - STOfan1 logs into Twitface/Reddit/the Forum etc and expresses his hatred of the new Whatever class Battledreadnoughtsciencecruiser
    - STOfan1 doesn't buy the the new Whatever class Battledreadnoughtsciencecruiser when it hits the C-store on Holodeck. One or more players, having read STOfan1's review/opinion of the new Whatever class Battledreadnoughtsciencecruiser also decide to give it a miss. It might also pursuade one or two people that the entire pack could be a lemon.

So whilst I might not particuarly like the fact that we can't tribble-test new ships, I do understand the reasoning.

That knife cuts both was, though. :) People could encourage others to go and buy this great new ship!

But also not letting players test out the new ships may be the cause of players not buying them on the holodeck because they don't want to end up with a lemon after spending $30 or more.

Giving the option to try before you buy can actually get more sells.

Don't quote me on this, but I think it was said at some time that Tribble isn't supposed to be used to see if you like a ship or not.

someone said that if they did everyone would play on tribble but ai suspect the number of people with access to tribble is less than 10% of the playerbase

It's 100% of the PC player base now. Anyone can log onto tribble. Thus, anyone could potentially use it to test c-store ships before they buy. This is something players do with the lobi store. The impact isn't apocalyptic, but it's definitely wide of the intended function of a test server.

So, why bother? If you're argument is that "not many people would do it" that's just a minimization of the cost. You're still at square one when it comes to justification.

My f2p account isn't able to use tribble as the launcher doesn't give the server options it does for my LTS login.

Pretty sure its tied into subs so tribble will potentially drop in numbers until they sort out a new way of allowing access.

They opened it up, does your F2P account have a character transferred there? It's been a while but to get initial access there could be that hoop to jump through (so players don't log into tribble on their first go and spin up a character thinking that tribble-redshirt-holodeck is equivalent to a larger MMO's servers scheme.)

Never felt the need to have two accounts linked in with tribble. Any website/account stuff is done on my tablet to avoid forum posting as two different "personas" but being strict with the f2p playstyle on it last time I did something was adding an arc code a while ago.

If I want to check out a gamblebox or lobi ship then I'll use my main account keeps things simpler.

I do remember a long time ago that we used to be able to test ships on Tribble before they were released on Holodeck, however the last time was the Romulan T5 Ar'Kif carrier escort.
