Not really interested in playing Jem'Hadar... I would have liked a Vorta better.

Ugggh. This tired argument again. It does not take the amount of time it takes to get to 60 to learn how to play the game. I think level 10 is a fair level to lock it at if they were going to at all.

Hmmm, Odo's Vanguard only available in the C-Store.

Is that a different group of Vanguard that comes with the Gamma Vanguard pack? ;)

Is there will be Jem'Hadar Recruitment Event???
I hope so... And i hope rewards will be as good as Temporal Agent Recruitment (but not as lackluster Delta).

I forgot how disappointing the Delta event rewards were after the Temporal one, until I made a new Delta recruit for this current event.

I'd love some recruitment event as well, though the rewards I don't expect will be that much. After all, it won't take nearly as much time to max out everything.

EDIT: Speaking of, I wonder if they'd ever do the Delta recruitment in the future. If so, they'd have to either exclude the Dominion (which will be interesting to see in the menu), or figure out how to include it.
I wonder if that's why they opted to repeat the Delta recruitment event this time, as they may never do it again.

I don't think it is as complicated as you are making it. From my experience in the current rerun of the event, for instance, I don't believe AoY/ToS toons can be Delta recruits. So presumably the same would be true of Dominion players. Especially since lorewise in game, the Iconian War is over with by the time the Dominion gets involved.

That said, while I do understand why we are starting at a more endgame level with the Dominion, I hope we get some Jem'hadar specific missions that tell more backstory on the faction. What have they been up to? Why are they getting involved now? That sort of thing.

Yes bc level 1-10 know how to run stfs and what kind of gear they should be using! I mean a new player should just flat out know what they are doing! it should been locked behide level 50. Someone just coming into the game has no business running around as level 60 and not having a clue what to do, thank god I run stfs only with my fleet bc this is gonna be a nightmare for pugs.

Feels good man. I like that we can skip a ton of grinding and still be able to use faction ships. On the other hand, not really much incentive to play other factions unless you're in it for the story. I'll roll a Fed KDF Rom toon from time to time but the JH is the go to when it launches.

Basically, I mean seriously why roll anything other than a Romulan or Jem Hadar...great racial traits, romulans have the best boffs, and Jem Hadar you can skip most of the grind...get the Vanguard and you have a nice space trait as well.

    People still run STFs? (half-joke)

All the marks I get for doing reps I get from events like Mirror/Voth. I have never played a single AoY queue (or anything after, which I think there was stuff), yet have every single rep maxed on all my dozen chars (Competitive was the worst rep ever). All the queues except for the current event and borg STFs are always empty, so they are impossible to PUG anyway. If the game let me play solo, I'd play them all for the storyline at least.

Oh right, I'll have to look into that again. I didn't check to see how the TOS char appeared in that menu,

    Question:

These new characters..... Are their abilities going to be activated via the Ketracel White Comodity, the actual green-quality Ketracel White consumable or some brand new form of Ketracel that'll be more prevalent than the Green consumable but less so than the commodity?

I would assume the same consumable that is already available in game now.

Well that's disappointing.... I have a bajillion commodities... and can never FIND the consumable. Hell, for the dominion tribble I had to buy it off the exchange. >.>

It won't be the commodity because that is Unrefined Ketracel, so it's not ready for consumption.
    bridgern wrote: »
    Yeap it works that way4HwbWnN.png

You don't even need to have him slotted to active, at least not for Feds and Roms. Mine can replicate Ketracel White just by having him in their rosters. Klingons, on the other hand, cannot for whatever reason. Perhaps it's supposed to only work when he's slotted as active and Klingons are the only ones working properly.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

Well, keep in mind there is no confirmation one way or another that there will be one (admittedly it is more likely then not, just saying we have heard literally NOTHING on it).

Regardless, I am sure the team will have it worked out.

If Cardassians are just going to be normal fed/kdf character I'd prefer if they got lvl 60 token too. Seems like a punishment to have to lvl one with no unique Cardassian story episodes.

I sure hope with the jump start to level 60 Cryptic isn't skipping some of the benefits that would normally be gained by gold members for actually leveling their characters: retrain tokens, BOff slots, inventory space, etc. And I was really expecting a Gamma Quadrant recruitment event with the release of ViL similar to the previous recruitment events where you worked towards achievements like leveling, crafting, and duty officers but if everything is given to us at creation what'll we work towards?

The more I think about it the more I think that Cryptic just didn't want to model a bunch of leveling starships for the Jem'Hadar. I could go through two of those things a day leveling a character and never use 'em again. If they made science/cruiser/escort versions for the first four ranks of the game that would be effort into twelve models that players would only use for a minimal amount of time. More efficient just to start us off with the T5/T6 options.

...That seems like something worth Exploring.

Good point. I can see that from a storytelling perspective. I will certainly try it out anyway, so I'm not going to make any rash decisions at this point.
That is a wise idea. :)
As a veteran player who's been here over eight years, a player who has played through all the existing story content (figuratively) a zillion times with (literally) dozens of characters, I'm happy at the idea to start a new character already at End Game with a new story branch to proceed with. The grind-save alone is so very appealing.

That being said... On one hand I'm unhappy about having to pick a Red or Blue Team to join and align KDF/Fed-side like the Romulans. By the sound of it, Jemmies will have only a handful of their own faction-unique missions before joining the same ol' content we already/will-continue to have that EVERY OTHER CHARACTER already has/will play. At least with the Roms, there are two-dozen(ish) high-quality Romulan-only missions that drive a full, rich, beautiful story.

On the other hand, I get it. For Real Life Reasons, Cryptic is unable (possibly, though I doubt, unwilling) to continue to create new content that's faction-specific. Basically, it would be like supporting a whole game for each faction. The resources just don't exist for that sort of development. I feel they could do better at making cross-faction stories more faction-specific with slightly different flavor text/tasks for Feds, KDFs, Roms, and Doms. They do a little of that, but they could do more. Anyway, likewise with opening up existing ships, etc to the Doms (and even Roms). It allows them to create revenue from existing "stock". Which, since it's really just a bunch of 1s and 0s never requires warehouse storage, shipping, gets stale or expires, etc. It's basically "Free Money" - It'd be foolish not too.

Also, it makes sense to not have much of a back story on these new characters. I understand some of the complaints about starting with a (semi)-fully developed character already L60 with jump-started reps, specs, crafting, etc. I like leveling-up too. I like creating a head-canon for each of my toons which grows as I level-up that character. But remember, this new Jem just fell off the turnip truck yesterday. Born in a vat and sent into combat within days!!! Try to imagine that. I look forward to probing how that mind would think...

How would I be if my first day awake was with baked-in abilities and ideas of how to behave? My beliefs and morals already decided. Living gods standing over me. Already addicted to a controlling substance. This is reflected in the skills and reps pre-assigned. My ability to respec and choice of faction is my own behavior from that first day, and going forward. What is the person I want to be?

That seems like something worth Exploring.

Yeah, but imagine if they made it so the KDF subverted the process and used them as a military arm? What if the Federation was able to "liberate" them and free'd them from their programming? You could play most of the game through just like everyone else and just flavor existing missions the same way they did for Romulans.
Sure, those are interesting ideas too. And I'm not against any of them, per se. But one does have to remember that all the existing story arcs begin sometime in 2409 and take place over a year-plus and end up in 2410 where we are now. The new Expansion 4 and its included Dominion Faction start their story in 2410. We don't yet know if those characters will be able to go-back and replay older missions or not (though I expect they will somehow), but as far as their story is concerned, that's outlined for us as new missions starting in the current 2410 time and storyline.

I have not been on Tribble, I'm only taking inference from the so-far released blogs/articles, but as I understand it, we do our (what sounds like) handful of initial Jemmy missions, pick an ally, then begin adventuring (along with every other character in Star Trek Online) with whatever mission occurs after the New Fronties chapter's The Renegade's Regret in STO's overall story. Jem'Hadar will begin play with all prior events having already happened before we were even born.

With the Agents of Yesterday's we got something similar. A handful of faction-specific missions, then time-ported to the (at that time) modern era of STO so they and every other character could play the universal Yesterday's War missions. Our new TOSlings had the Temporal Agent Recruitment Event to help them along, but they still needed a lot of grind to get on par with Veteran Toons (I'm still finishing missions, DOffing, Reps, and Specs on mine).

I agree with you. They could have started the Jems in 2409. Given them a full story arc to bring them to 2410. That's what they with the Romulans. And I LOVED the Rom arc! And the plot-seeds you suggest are GREAT ideas, too. They could have been fun to play.

But then again... I LOVE the idea of not having to grind (as much) a new character. And considering Jemmys are born out of a bottle, this seems to me the prefect Star Trek Canon-Compliant method to "Jump Start" a new toon at L60.

Does it seem to me to be an awfully convenient Developer Shortcut to present this all as a full expansion? Heck yeah. Legacy of Romulus was an incredible amount of impressive work. The Romulan Faction, while some refer to it as a half-faction, and I agree it's lacking in some regards, it's got a lot going for it, especially when you consider it's own full story arc from peasant colonist to Republic Fleet Admiral. People forget that LoR brought along all sorts of universal updates and some final spit and polish to the KDF Faction to bring them full-up, too including a half-dozen new beginner missions, that are really pretty good!

Delta Rising gave us 10 new levels and a ton of new missions for everyone to play. No new faction, but a pretty decent offering overall.

Again AoY's faction was a total shortcut/mini-Fed faction. And Dominion appears to be something similar. It is what I think we will continue to get in the future. LoR-sized expansions will be rare, if never to happen again.

Well... it could be the Bugship, or it could be the as yet unplayable battlecruiser. Considering the HEC and Dread Carrier are in the big pack... they wouldn't be given out for free. So it is either gonna be an original design, Bugship, or Battlecruiser.

And people have been wanting the Battlecruiser because its the Jem'Hadar ship that doesn't have a playable counterpart in any capacity.

    2) I saved all the "feature episode" rewards from previous episodes up to that point, and then cashed them in to instantly max out a specialization on day one(-ish).
    3) DOffing I still haven't finished. I wish we had shortcuts for that one. :-(

Honestly, I have been wondering about the battlecruiser. The Vanguard ship, or whatever it is called clearly has some elements borrowed from the Battlecruiser, but it is not 100% accurate. At least not as we have seen. I was geniunely wondering if it was suppose to be the battlecruiser, or if we will ever get the battle cruiser at all.

Like you I hope so, as it is the last canon Dominion ship left. Much as I love the bug ship. It would be nice, now that we have a dominion/Jem'hadar faction to get all the canon ships in.

Yes these are the 3 possibilities. All 3 have positives and negatives.

Original Design: Obvious negative here is that it will probably look terrible. Cryptic original designs have tended to be pretty good for the most part. Their original Jem'Hadar designs, however, leave a lot to be desired. I can't really see any positives beyond just getting a free ship here.

T5 Bugship. There are no player perspective negatives here. But from cryptic's perspective, what would be the point of selling the T5 Dread and T5 Heavy Escort Carrier but turn around and give away the bug for free? It's already available in the phoenix pack. And the real bugship that people actually want is available as a promo ship. The positives from the player perspective here are obvious.

Battlecruiser: Would be nice but highly doubtful IMO. If it's free, I'll actually be disappointed because that means that it will probably suck. I'd prefer a paid version or even lock box or promo version that doesn't suck.

What would the Jem'Hadar recruitment event entail when the vast majority of work is already done for us? The major grind for the Jem'Hadar will be Dominion ship unlocks.

In all likelihood, if they went for the battlecruiser, you would get a free t5, which may or may not be horrible. But there would be a C-store variation, which hopefully would not be horrible.

Whatever they have for the starter ship, I highly doubt they would have it be a T6 ship, so there is always a possibility of a C-store variation. Especially since that is the easiest way to make back the cost of making the ship in the first place.

For all intents and purposes it is a seperate faction. However... mechanics wise in order to fit into the established Red vs Blue dual factions that has been in place in STO since Day 1, they choose to side with either Red or Blue.

Not quite. Because Feds, Romulans, and KDF characters who want Bugship pets for the Jem Dread would still need to get a hold of the Bugship for that particular character.

It was always going to end up as a blended variation of TOS and rommies. My guess is it'll be a tos tutorial length set of episodes taking the player from birthing tank to finding the hurq are back, getting into big trouble that only the feds can save the galaxy from and ending up arriving through the wormhole with odo's "we have to talk" message on an old betamax tape. (I really hope they get him to redo that line with something better than a nokia 2210.

Had a wry smile and chuckle over the preallocated skill points with free retrain with how strangely some of the ships they force you to fly are put together.

Chances are the traits will magically unslot at least twice during the jem tutorial since thats an on going "feature" in the game.
