Hey folks, we'll be making some changes to the landing page in an upcoming update - it was intended to only appear once per account, not once per character.
Are you going to restore the old centered main menu too? The new position of the main menu is one of the most annoying aspects of this change.
While I can understand and appreciate the reason behind this particular addition to the game, I personally find it to be of no intrinsic value to me as a player, and the sheer size and in-your-faceness of it is highly distracting.
A better alternative would be a pop-up UI that comes up in, say, the upper left hand corner and automatically minimizes itself after a set amount of time. You get the UI up on the screen like you want, and the players don't feel like they are forced to take action to minimize or close it in order to actually play the game.
Space Barbie Extraordinaire. Got a question about Space Barbie? Just ask.
Things I want in STO:
1) More character customization options such as more clothing options, letting the toon complexion affect the entire body, not just the head. Also a true RGB color picker applied to all costume and appearance options, which would allow for true appearance customization and homogenous colors instead of "this same exact color looks vastly different on two different pieces."
2) Bridge customization, not bridge packs. Let us pick a general layout and adjust the color palette, console appearance, and chair types, as well as more ready room layout options.
3) Customizable ground weapons, i.e. The aesthetic look of phaser dual pistols but they shoot antiproton bolts. For obvious reasons this would only apply to standard ground weapons.
4) For the love of Q please revamp Plasma Ground Weapons. They look like demented Supersoakers right now.
5) True Vanity Impulse and Deflector effects similar to Vanity Shields.
6) A greater payout for hitting T6 Reputations. Currently it takes more time and resources to get from T5 to T6 than it does to get from nothing to T5. Make that grind really pay out at the end.
7) Mirrorverse Refugee event similar to AoY/Delta/Gamma, complete with new Mirrorverse recruits for all factions.
8) Independent Faction, because yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me!
If you look at how other games do it then you will see just how poor the STO version is even after it has been fixed.
Um... so you know how it will be when it actually works? Are you from the future?
Cryptic's using something similar over in Neverwinter. My guess is they're trying to do something similar over here, but as we've seen, and as confirmed by kael, its not WAI.
No I am not from the future. I read what the bug is and can see the bug doesn't refer to anything I said or any of my problems with it. Like I said before there is nothing wrong with the idea its just poorly implanted just like the now not so new queue UI which is still worse then the old one. Or the not so new icon revamp which is still worse then the old icons along other areas that have been made worse after a redesign. Its not just the poor way it looks that's a problem but the way it functions is badly designed as well. Its also not a great start to have a new splash screen that right from the start is showing outdated useless information. That's just poor design along with the areas frtoaster covered in his post.
Game systems keep getting redesign better but UI related redesigns keep getting worse.
Even when you pass level 10 logging in to find this screen could knock a new player through a mental loop or two with confusion and stress. What you need are three options to move on by this screen:
1) A "Continue Your Adventure" button
2) The ability to press ESC, which is currently possible
3) Click x at the top right of the screen, which is currently available.
I'm really putting this 1st option suggestion in there to help avoid new (and old) player confusion and possible stress. A simple "continue your adventure" button should be the easiest way (bar none) to help with that. And I sincerely hope it's implemented if you keep this landing screen addition to the game.
Personally I find the landing screen a bit annoying. Especially if I've had a random disconnect on a timed mission (such as Tour the Galaxy daily) and what to get back in ASAP once the connection is back to normal...
Idk, I get most of my info from this little thing in the launcher and I never felt "out of the loop" (except maybe for some 1-day flash sales here and there):
If it's just one new thing, I click on it directly, when it seems there's more than fits there, I click on "View all" and boom, easy access to all the recently released features and updates.
So in order for the landing page to be useful for me, it would need to have some other information, that is not already displayed in the "News".
In only one day this topic has already generated more views and comments than the official "Renegade's regret" and "Constable specialisation" feedback threads combined.
I dunno why you didn't test this Landing page on tribble. (I may be wrong.. but I didn't saw it in tribble). Please stop using Holodeck for bug testing and maybe fix stuff that has been broken for 2 years...
No offence. I want this game to be great! And you devs are capable of doing great stuff.
Once this arrives on console that means they'll have out of date info given three times on first logging in.
First when you get the pointless "engage" window, second at character select and then this plastered across the screen at actual login which will be even more obnoxiously large on a big telly.
It's too in your face, an option to revert to the previous interface would better
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."

That is another good point. I don't want to see this either when I want to switch characters or pull up the menu. Please remove this from being attached to a menu we all have to use regularly every single time we decide to play.

They already have a far superior version of sorts on the Character select screen. Doesn't intrude, it's all listed down the side of the screen.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
The fact that other games have this feature is no reason to add it here. If the people who play said games don't like this feature, then STO has become just as bad as those games. I guess the devs feel that a large number of players don't check the news enough, or at all. But, do you honestly feel that the problem is that players don't know how to do it? With respect, I think it's a safe bet that people who play the PC version of this game own a computer, have internet access, and know how to use a search engine. Sorry to say this, but players who don't check the news don't care enough to do so. Shoving the news in the face of such ones will not make them happy, and won't motivate them to spend money. Personally, I check STO news every day. It's part of my daily routine. Turn on computer, grab beverage, check email, weather, STO news, etc. But players who don't want to look at the news will not be happy if you force them to do so.
We already have an in-game source of news in the calendar function. Why not make changes to that? I would rather see sales in the calendar than have a landing page. Honestly, I don't see a need to give us news via the landing page when the calendar is not kept up to date. The calendar is supposed to show events and such for the current month and the following month, and the following month is almost always empty. Are we really not getting a Risa event in June this year? Back to the topic, if you are going to give us this landing page, then please keep it current, and, only show us the page when there is something new. Then again, if we are going to be forced to use the landing page, can you make it customizable? If not, can you poll the players and see what information we would like to have on it? As it stands now, it adds nothing positive to my gaming experience. If the main point of the landing page is to tell us what's on sale, and you insist on forcing us to see this page, then I think it's only right that you add the official Star Trek voice over that goes with it...
"Welcome to Drozana Station..."
Folks, the landing page is not intended to trigger with every login. This has been confirmed by Kael and repeated through this thread. It's best to move on from what is 1. patently well litigated and 2. patently resolved (fix incoming soon, though not today.)

Sure it is, those games show utility which can be applied elsewhere. STO is not so unique in gaming that new models of human behavior need to be invented to explain the flow of information through the general population, particularly next to Neverwinter. I would hate to see that potential utility lost simply because people with a demonstrated inclination to use the website (and thereby least represent the target audience of a landing page) complained on day one (when "reaction to change" is at its maximum) with a confirmed and very relevant bug in play.

Yes, guys and gals, the landing page will be once a day, so no worries about it, what i do worry about are the updates, we all know how often and well the updates work in the calendar..
Once this arrives on console that means they'll have out of date info given three times on first logging in.
Console already has this integrated into the character select screen (check the four items under "news"). If you had to click A to confirm an extra time when starting a character then you'd pretty much be having the same experience as PC users are now (barring issues of acclimatization.) You've always had it, so it passes beyond notice.

And why have it when a player is changing characters too... switch between 7 or 8 characters within an hour to transfer stuff or start daily DOFF missions, see the landing page ads a dozen or so times. Come on.
I'm a lifetime subscriber, I didn't pay to see full-screen, game access delaying ads all day. There are plenty on ARC and on the STO loader... and they are usually the same. Please pick one place where you want them, or let us choose.

There's information in this thread that's directly relevant to your feedback. The landing page is currently bugged so it displays when changing character, not once upon login (the intended function and pretty much how landing pages work in most games.)

[...]that means Bort and his team are working on it.[...]
Given that I am not liking a couple of Borticus' design decisions from the past year I would prefer him staying as far away from it as possible. Or we might end up with a landing page that only dissappears after you have done one of the offered choices.

A lot of us who are complaining only have one active character. I don’t see how the fix for once per account is going to solve the rest of the complaints.

A lot of people complaining are doing so on the basis of frequent character logins. See. Hellure directly above. My comment was directed specifically at them (a fix is incoming).
Come the update, no. Your complaint won't be specifically addressed. But then again that feedback contributing to an active process of development. Your complaint may never be addressed or addressed in full, as with all feedback on any topic (we should be mindful of that when setting expectations. Cryptic doubtlessly going to tweak things but they may not tweak that aspect which bothers any given individual most.)

This is essentially an annoying pop-up ad from a late '90s website. Maybe once on first sign-in, but when changing characters?
Nope. It serves no useful purpose other than to push the sale of master keys. Not sure who thought it was a good idea, but they should be embarrassed.

If it can't be disabled then I could just about endure it being tagged onto the esc key.
Not... on... every... login...
I'd rather be able to disable it though.
