PSA about the boozeman engines

Anyone levelling a delta recruit and plans on using these engines might want to think twice if they are prone to motion sickness from games.

Travelling at full impulse has a constant screenshake linked to it, very small wobble but being so small is the main trigger issue.

With the amount of full impulse between points in missions this shaking can and will trigger motion sickness.

So if you happen to feel queasy while using the boozeman engines this is the cause, stop playing for a while and on coming back swap them out for something else.

Or you could turn off screen shaking in Options. That worked for me.

There's an option for that? Good to know. Shaking cutscenes are annoying.

Bear in mind that console users probably dont have that luxury but would you care to share where in the options it is for PC.

Hard to find when you're reeling from the effects.

People actually get motion sickness from looking at a screen? Hilarious.

As hilarous as the 'migraines' from the AoY film grain

You'd be surprised what can happen when looking at a screen.

Also, there's no such thing as a 'Boozeman' Engine in the game.

The screen isn't the issue it's whats on screen that is.

In the case of these engines there's a constant little judder than means the eyes and brain are having to adjust to the motion while focussing on something stationary.

Epilepsy being triggered by games is a well known and recognised phenomenon even if its a token warning on a loading screen, motion sickness isn't which is why a lot of studios put out games with FOV tailored to consoles without any adjustment for a PC where the player is usually sat closer to the screen. Closer you are the worse a narrow FOV can hit you.

As an example the intro sequence in metro last light almost made me physically sick and the game itself was almost impossible to play due to the way they attatched ui elements onto the arms of the player model and the crazy over extending weapons.

It's much rarer to catch me in third person games but when it does its usually because of some idiotic design choice such as the constant wobble caused the boozeman engines.

I mean, I always feel like I've been drinking about a bottle worth of vodka when I'm flying with those things so to me they'll always been the Boozeman engines

Having never been to montana I can't account to how nauseating it is so currently boozeman is better as they have a similar after effect.

Get nauseous in 1st person perspective... really noticed it in FO3 in dark tunnels...

I got motion sick a bit playing Aliens vs Predator, specifically when I'm wall crawling as a Xenomorph. I can handle the Predator and Marine campaigns just fine. But Xenomorph I sometimes have to stop and recover.

i've (thankfully) never had nausea while playing any game that wasn't due to external forces...but i bet that would change if i ever played one of those VR games, because i know those can cause nausea quite often

Yeah, the shake is very annoying. Especially as it makes little sense since we play as a 3rd person perspective.

I have that issue with some FPS that had smooth motion (aka no walking bob) like old DOOM had. Spinning round and seeing the wall and corners just slide by would get me a bit sick and a headache. But then I also can't do amusement park rides either.

Motion sickness...not as much as a problem for me as vertigo is.
Those zip lines (I have to stare at the ceiling) and clear floors in starbases (I give those a wide berth)....yeah, not my thang.

Heck after a full days work, during my wind down before bed, for me they become BOOZEman engines. Rum and Coke FTW baby!

Dyslexia is a real problem, so is schizophrenia or Tourette's, or food allergies. But everybody not liking shrimps putting it down to an allergy, everybody with problems reading saying "I have dyslexia, so not my fault", that's a lazy excuse and devalues the problems people suffering from such conditions have.

But that was more of a tangent.

Yeah I see that almost everyday at work. I work for a quick serve restaurant, and one of our more popular burgers has a sauce on it named after it, and that sauce has onions in it. Yet all the time I hear people order that sandwich with no onions, saying they are allergic to them, but that they want extra sauce.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled forum thread.

Everytime, they still take it. Well except once, so that one I believe.

Reminds me of the guy who said he was alergic to peanuts then told me he was going to the Texas Roadhouse (buckets of peanuts on every table and you are encouraged to throw the shells on the floor).

Lol, if my sister is anything to go by then anyone with a peanut allergy would have serious, potentially life threatening medical issues after going into a Texas Roadhouse. The ones I've been to you are literally stepping on peanut shells the second you walk in the door. My sister wasn't thinking one time and had a pretzel from someone's party mix or something at her old job, and ended up leaving in an ambulance due to her peanut allergy cause a lot of those things can have peanut traces in them even if peanuts aren't an actual ingredient.

allergies are a matter of degree. I have a mild allergy to strawberries. touching them can make me itch, but eating them might not bother me. I avoid eating them though because I DO sometime have issues from it.
