I was excited for it until i heard about the MK15 gear upgrade. People are already 1 shooting everything with MK14 epics. And this even makes MK12 stuff that some of us still use bad now. You know with this upgrade that they will make mobs more powerful. So this is how they will get money for this expansion. Upgrading gear to MK15 won't be cheap. Way to TRIBBLE this up PWE/Cryptic or i should say nice way to sneak this money sink in.

Not let down, although the Dominion wasn't exactly my fav, DS9 is a great show right up next to TNG, seeing so many voice actors back, and maybe more things Bajoran too like the event escort with its really good experimental weapon make up for that.

Concerned about the mk15, which will cost an fortune to do across so many main toons. My alts still us MK12 and unless they specialize for weapon DPS probably will have to be carried like in the newer STFs - that's somewhat good as I enjoy the challenge, but not good if enemies are even bigger hitpoint sponges and more mobs.

Science also needs a big boost for the basic abilities like TBR, FBP (the nerf was excessive), photonic shockwave etc.

I'm excited by the story (7 episodes on the last confirmation and they will be multi-faction), DS9 rebuild, and Jem'Hadar species option + vanguard escort. The only thing I could see getting in the way for me is if the 14.5 stance animation bugs persist through June.

What I'm really let down by is season 5 of Discovery. Even though that hasn't been released yet either, and I don't even watch the show.

More seriously, no. Why should I be? For all I know at this point these will be the funnest story episodes ever and I'll love them.

We do have a lot of Ferengi...

The experience is definitely something to take in the moment. I think you can say something about certain structural aspects (in line with simply having a discussion about them) but once you're in an episode and participating with the narrative for what that means on a human level those concerns are ultimately secondary. Is the game doing a good job at being a game? Does it mean anything to you? We'll each answer that for ourselves in June.

Well I think with level 65 coming soon you'll have to remember enemy will have more Hitpoints, Shields, and also do more damage... so Mk XV was likely a necessary requirement - It likely won't increase power creep too much - since it's all relative.

Although one would hope upgrading would at least give enough of a boost to your gear / items to offset the gains from enemy.

Still I think the expansion is looking fantastic:

♪ DS9 revamp has been long requested and they put considerable work into it's redesign as shown.

♪ Their was much anticipation about playing a Cardassian for year's.
♫ But allowing Gem Hadar as a free addition was icing, and the enchanced Gem Hadar more will love.

I'm just hoping at some time around Victory is Life they give us a few new items to buy with GPL we've been earning.

Apparently a large part of this expansion is going to be some sort of new game mode that takes places in the Gamma Quadrant no details other then it exists. So that'll be fun to play hopefully. Still so happy they finally added in the Jem'Hadar

Might see some more useless holo-emitters, or trophies. I wouldn't expect anything to extravagant here.

To address the mark increase for gear. Simply put, the game isn't balanced to handle the power of the current gear. Unless they increase the over all difficulty of the game, not just the health/shield/damage of the npc. This will just be more powercreep to make the game even easier than it already is. I haven't even fully upgrade all my gear yet, to MK XIV epic. I hit half epic, half UR Mk XIV, and now, unless there's like 20 enemies attacking me, I don't have to worry about anything. Well, other than paying attention enough to proc an ability to prevent them from killing me.

Right now, especially with the new auto-fire as default. The best way to play space combat here. Enter it, with auto-fire on, set a weight of some kind on your turn key, and go find something else to do for a few minutes.

The revamp to DS9 has been coming for a long time. I know Tacofangs has been wanting to do this for years now. I'm glad to see he's finally getting to.

As to the upcoming content. I'll at least pay some attention to it. Probably not a lot. Bit given it's already starting off with the "happy, happy, joy, joy, tra-lahla-la-la, we're all the best of friends" vomit, they carried on with since DR. I'm not going to get my expectations up that this will be any different.

I mean, who knows. We may actually make it to 2411 with this expansion.

    Sector Space battlezone.

Oh right, this. Sounds decent enough. I hope they include a return of the pvp flagging with this. That way, those of us that want to fight each other can randomly do so. And those that don't, can just keep it turned off.

But.. chances are.. this is never going to happen.

Past experience with previous expansions. People are learning to not listen to the hype. Past experience has taught us. It's great they're expanding the game. But, there's generally not a lot about them to get excited over.

So there's getting excited, there's feeling let down and somewhere in the middle is this huge gray area that I'm sitting in. The mentality is something like "oh a new expansion is coming out. I'm interested in playing it when it's available. Hopefully it's good."

People get overly excited all the time and whatever, it's just what happens. But why would someone be "let down" already. I mean, there's nothing to be let down over right now. We don't have enough information since they love to slow trickle release all of the info.

Oh, I'm not being let down by what I'm seeing. I've just kept my expectations of this expansion, extremely low. So far, from what I'm seeing, they've lived up to those same, low expectations. This way, if it turns out to be better than my expectations and suspicions are set at, I'll be relatively surprised by it. But, I'm not counting on that happening.

Same as AoY, a few new starter missions and a couple STFs. Very poor excuses for 'expansions' but hey, they are free so...
Now if they charged $50 like WoW and this was all they did, then yeah, you'd have alot to complain about.

You do Know that level 13 or 14 green "drops" from the new enemies will surpass current "Epic" level gear....right? Thus the way of new expansions and gear drops, new green TRIBBLE drops will surpass your once "leet" gear you worked so hard for.

I don't think it will. Like A green Mk 13 that already exists in the game is not better then an Epic Mk 13 or MK 14. They are adding MK 15 but Green MK 15 won't surpass Epic MK 14.

Green _15_ might, but 13-14 certainly will not. The jump in mark level is usually more important than the mods.

But so what? Your Epic gear only needs 1 level increase, you don't need to upgrade eleventy times again chasing the a rarity increase.

Apply a few tech upgrades to your Mark XIV Epic and *voila!* it's a Mark XV Epic. PROBLEM SOLVED!

Since there is no mk xiv loot drops in the game anywhere, and no indication that will change, and since your wrong anyway...

Probably didn't word that the best. Just trying to alleviate the fears of the guy about his gear getting left so far behind without spending tons of in game money for upgrades. The new green drops, probably even white, will surpass his purple mark 12, and that's almost a guarantee with an expansion that raises level cap and gear level, and if STO doesn't, it will be the first time in my remembrance of any mmo that has done so, from WoW to ultima online.
but lets say that they go against the grain of any modern mmo game design, and white/green drops are not better than his purple mark 12, there are a host of design problems with this. Firstly power creep with what is already present. New enemies in the expansion will have to pose a threat via toughness, hit points etc. to top end players in top end gear now...or they will just blow through content in a day and be like "that was it" On the other hand if new enemies are that powerful and new gear doesn't drop that's greater than his 12 purples (thus really and truly making him spend bookus of in game currency to upgrade his gear before even playing the new content)...and they keep one shotting these people, they will just quit. Neither of these scenarios of what the company wants.
That's why most games just go...new white common gear > = to the best old gear, it solves both problems, only leaving some people saying "I Worked so hard for my current gear, now it's gone", to which they are always told, that is the way of mmo's. -- Most people already know that, so it's not really that big of a fuss.
