New things and scheduling

I'm wondering if there will be a new lock box soon? It is a bit strange that new items were added to the Infinity box without a new one having been announced while there is a new (half-) season being released.

A different thing, but slightly related to the strange scheduling of things lately, is that it's almost a year ago now that we've had a new reputation sytem.

I know that some of these changes were hinted at by the developers in some podcasts, but it would be nice if we could get some information about the current scheduling of things, things that used to be fairly predictable and straight forward.

My two main concerns are: How often can we expect new reputations? And will we see new lock boxes (approximately every 3 months)?

From what I summize from the Dev's podcasts, Reps are going to be released fewer in number now due to the fact we have so many. There will be new lockboxes, and it is not stange at all that new things were added to the Infinity, as this has been done a few times before, and they always bring the Infinity first before they announce a new Lockbox, which we know will be Gamma Themed, and probably will be called the 'Gamma Quadrant' Lockbox.

    Timing: "As needed"

Cryptic tries to keep to a three month major content cycle but they're free to vary the formula as they see fit. For example: highlighting a 0.5 season with infinity box updates as opposed to a new lock box (13.5 came with Son'a box at launch.) This kind of variation is not new, seasons progress on only the most general model (for example: there was no season 12.5) and the most we can say for certain is that we will see [insert regular content update here] at some point in the foreseeable future.

    Thanks guys.

It's just that things seem to be a bit less predictable than they used to be. I would have expected a new lock box since three months have passed and infinity is running but it makes sense that they're waiting for the new Expansion.

From what I've seen/heard from the various podcasts and the announcement post last week it sounds like the infinity box is the box for season 14.5 rather than another new box. But fear not, the Victory is Life e-mail that came out last week promised a Gamma Quadrant box coming with Victory is Life in June (which looks short of the normal 3 month cycle even with a late June release). I'd even speculate that ViL is coming in early June (rather than the backend) which means more like a 2 month run for the box, hence the decision to rerun the improved infinity box and probably stabilise some of the T6 lockbox ship market ahead of whatever is coming lockbox ship wise with the expansion.

As for reps, like the others said above Dev's have said they're slowing down because of the number we now have. But on the otherside of that, most new reps need associated PvE queues for them and we also have a well known issue with PvE queue popularity (or lack of) and throwing in more queues just adds to that problem with more queues that after a couple of months will be mostly abandoned. Plus of course the Dev's are busy with the expansion which probably means a lack of resource time to design those new queues that a rep would require.

Yeah that's another thing that I found strange. There seems to be little time between season 14.5 and the new Expansion. Though that isn't a bad thing.

I hadn't even seen that e-mail yet to be fair :p

This is not unusual as they have been devoting so much time to the new expansion.

They might be wanting to run the infinity box longer as the ship boxes have been tweaked so that might bring a small influx of folk who had previously got bored of them.

Interest being piqued will lead to potential key (zen) purchases and they must make those pennies to pay for all the trek actors they're flooding the game with.
