New/Old Jem’hadar

After watching the Facebook like stream I was a little taken aback that STO possibly might not be putting in the ability to customise our old jem’hadar Boff, while putting in a whole new range of jem’hadar playables. I know it’s not a major issue but it seems to me like it’s kinda half A**ing it!

Why the surprise? The old Reman boff has never been open for customization.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

It just makes me wonder why?

Honest without knowing how the Jem'hadar boff model is hooked into the system, you really don't have any idea how much work it would be to change it to be customizeble.

For all we known that boff (or the reman one) was never hooked into the customation system and can use only pre-built models, if that's true then to make those boffs customizeble cryptic would have to hook them up to the customation system and make sure they work properly, That's a lot of work for something most players would probably not care even if they noticed it.

Cryptic has after all limited resources and because of that some things have to sacrificed or postponed, or would be willing to have the expansion be delayed while Cryptic did something you personally didn't want or care about but someone else did?

So much this, it's NOT the same thing.

they'd basically have to rebuild the old boffs to make it work.

Seems dramatically simpler if they create all-new Jem'hadar boffs for jem'hadar captains that are built to work with customization from the ground up. Incentivizing buying the new stuff and playing the new faction...

here’s hoping then we get new jem hadar boffs that everyone can use not Just dominion

There's easy precedent: both Romulan and TOS officers were made available through to other factions. Now Cryptic could always change the scheme, up to including "no" but I think it's likely that Dominion officers in some form will be opened up to other players (there's plenty of Jem'Hadar ships already out there which need populating. )

They clearly explained why if you were pay attention. They weren't half-a**ing it. It's one model that is probably using an older code. There's no need to say they are slacking! They did say they may get round to updating it in the future.

Well you have a playable Bolian character, and yet no Bolian Doffs at ALL. There is some separation between the two character mappers they use, but I have no clue what the reasoning is.

Maybe you just got unlucky? I'm pretty sure I have several, though they're very much uncommon.

It's possible that he meant Benzite instead of Bolian.

In that case he also mixed up Boffs and Doffs. Benzites have the weird distinction of being the only race to be playable, but not recruitable as Boffs.

I was paying attention! And I stand by my statement of them half a**sing it! It’s not a big deal on the grand scheme of things but as professionals I thought they would be posting out a fully polished update rather than ‘just getting to it later’ and while I appreciate its a free to play game, I’m sure most of us have put more than our fare share of money into it!

I have put a considerable amount into this game over the 7 years I've been playing (well over the $1000 mark and I'm LTS), and have the Boff, and I'm not going to lose sleep over the fact that I can't edit it yet. They explained why they haven't done it yet. It's just not a priority as it's using a different modelling, textures etc than what they use now, and it doesn't warrant the language you assign to it. They clearly addressed it. You just made a mountain out of a speck of dust. Just have a little patience and let them get on with the main expansion before ripping them a new one.

I understand it’s not a major issue! And yes I have been playing the same amount of time you have and I’ve probably put around the same amount of money in and I enjoy the game I’m very passionate about this hence the frustration. This is why game devs need to step it up when there half a**ing it, so I’m currently playing on the Xbox one, my character tailor is broken, I cannot create any new uniforms.
And the only way to resolve it is by putting it on a forum! 2 weeks and it’s still unresolved. Could do with not bringing out expansions and polish what they go to be honest

That won't solve the issue as this has been mentioned many, many times before, and I think this is even mentioned in the FCT's. Plus it's different departments altogether and you'll have three quarters of the staff twiddling their thumbs for weeks. Game-breaking bugs get absolute priority, everything else is prioritised accordingly. I play on XB1 as well as PC (yes, I'm that dedicated, but I've just had surgery and the XB1 lazy play version is fun), but the tailor works fine for me having just checked. Console bugs will not be fixed within 2 weeks unless the game is broken, plus the fact that it costs each time to apply a patch to the game on consoles, as it is most likely part of the contract to not bring the game down un-necessarily. You also have to accept the fact that as this game is constantly changing, there will always be bugs, it's the nature of the beast, and yes, bugs can and do appear in old code where there weren't none before, so yes, they could bring the game down for a week, fix it up, it runs fine for a month till they introduce a new patch and more bugs appear. Bugs also can only be fixed once they can be replicated and identified. Just saying 'this doesn't work' doesn't help the Dev's one bit. You need to give more info to help them, because if it's only affecting you, and no-one else, then they have nothing to go on, other than your word.

    Cryptic's business model.

I'm really hoping they update the models as a whole, to be more screen accurate. I'm not as concerned with the Boff from the mission but it does seem a bit weak that they're not allowing them to be updated or customized. Do you think we will have a timer to use Ketrocel-white? or will we be using it instead of health items?

While i'm not AS worried about this, i really agree that it's lazy for them to not add that to the boff.

Look, it's not laziness nor anything else. It's a very old model. They will get round to it. They are a small team that are far too busy doing far more important things right now, you know, like creating 7 new episodes, Gamma Quad, new worlds, DS9 revamp, new ships, dozens of new characters. There is no need to claim laziness nor any other profanity because they haven't updated 1 model. Give the guys and gals a break!

honestly, though, the old jemmy Boff is kinda Meh. he was only really useful for the TS3 ability. when they revamped the tutorial and added Elisa Flores, he became superflous. none of his traits are worthwhile

Back then you couldn't BUY manuals for TS3, you had to find boffs that had it.

    > There has also never been, and never will be, an MMO that has no bugs. WoW, the biggest, most succesful, MMO with the largest dev and qa staff in the industry still has bugs from launch (2004) in the game 14 years later. People claiming this is somehow a thing specific to Cryptic &/or STO simply do not know what they are talking about.

Not debating that mmos don’t have their flaws, they constantly changing! But wow has game administrators in game you could speak to if you had any problems! This is where this game
