PVE queues, for power creep only?

sto4me2sto4me2 Member Posts: 29 Arc User
as a "casual" player using fleet gear i find the new PVE queues (iconian and later) to hard (even the normal ones) to enjoy them. as a 5-man team 10 minutes shouting at a group enemies to kill them is no fun.
But if you have 1 or 2 'power creep' in your group then every thing just melts.

so make the enemies on non elite queues weaker (as it doesn't mater for the extreme dps players) or make it so that power creep don't do 200-500 times the dps as a 'casual'

so, after waiting 40 minutes in wait for queue to fill (gateway to gre'thor adv.), then do 45 min to complete it and then get 12 marks, and 1 datacore it makes me want to quit the game or never to queue again.

If you say that enemies even in normal difficulty is too hard for you, then you have to address your own build.
Some common things that you might want to look over and are easy to fix:

    1. Use only energy weapons of same type (as in, only phasers or only disruptors). Also use only those tactical consoles that boost that specific energy weapon.

    2. Use either a combination of:
    • Single beams only
    • Dual (heavy) cannons front, turrets aft
    • Dual beam banks front, omni-directional beams aft

    3. Use a maximum of one torpedo (unless you want to build a specialized torpedo-boat, but I'd suggest that to only more experienced players)

    4. See that your base Weapon power level is set to 100 and base auxiliary power to 75.

    5. Check over your Bridge Officer abilities and make sure they all do something (for example remove Cannon: Scatter Volley if you don't have any cannons). When in doubt, ask someone.

    6. Go over these lists of personal and reputation traits, and select as many high grade ones as you have. Plenty of totally free traits are very good and you don't have to go on a shopping spree immediately.

Thanks for the response, but my problem and the reason i put this in feedback is that even if you are using all your recommendations it is still hard, as in things don't die and you (and your team) will die as you become overwhelmed.

And having to do a lot off advanced queues to get the special items for reputation gear (or spent 100 marks on a project) and only getting 1 special item and 12 marks becourse failing all the optionals.... that is making people depressed and that can't be the goal of the game.

Dude I stopped playing normal ever since i returned to the game back in mid 2016 from a 4 year break..Normal was a stomping ground lasting barely 3-4 minutes with how weak enemies were or OPéd the weapons became to make normal ques not even laughable..A really good que is FEZ to challenge mid level players and also the reason its elite only..The RA are where NPC's get their TRIBBLE handed to them in 2 minutes or so because they are normal ques only..

I am using an intel assault cruiser as an ENG captian, recently switched up to the fleet variant and still working out kinks in it..

    SO in PvE....

What ship are you using? (Shouldnt be relevant but still)
What role are you playing? (ENG=Support and partial offense defense/SCI=Crowd control/TAC=Full Offense)
    What faction? (FED/ROM/KLING)
What level is your gear and rarity? (MK??)
    Any special/Fleet consoles? (Universal)
What is your specc tree like? (How much in ENG/SCI/TAC)
    What specilizations?

So plenty to consider and look at..If you need help JUST ASK..There will be people more experienced that will chime in too. :):) .

If you want to max out damage check out the DPS league website..

Again, it's not the problem of the game being too hard, it's you doing something inefficiently. For example, I find the content to be easy. Normal and advanced ridiculously so. And yes, I'm aware I belong to the group of people you refer to as doing "200-500 times the dps as a 'casual'", but I'm by no means a superhuman. Perhaps I might have slightly faster reflexes than many other players, but most of what I've accomplished has just come through careful building of my ship and practicing the piloting.

I'm not saying that to trash-talk you, nor is my intention to tell you that you absolutely have to belong into the "upper echelon" of the players to succeed. Quite the opposite, I'm saying that requirements of succeeding in STO are pretty low (especially when talking about advanced queues), and you'll be able to accomplish everything you want with just a little effort and thought process of your own. And don't be afraid to turn to guides, or ask for help, if you feel your own knowledge is a bit lacking.

There are many things to be depressed about in STO, but the difficulty of the content is not one of them.

I can't tell for my pug mates but my gear:
ship: Exploration cruiser [t6], eng captain
6x Advanced Fleet Phaser Beam Array MK12 [CrtD][DMG]x3
    1x Phaser Beam array MK10 [Ac/dm] [CrtD]x3 [PEN} (still updating this one)
    1x Wide Angele Quanrum Rotpde MK12 {CrtD}
    tac console: 3x Vulnerability Locater MK12 {PHA}

other stuff mission rewards/random drops, MK11/MK12

i see so many advanced queues failing that there must be something wrong.
And that almost nobody is in the queues must also have a reason

As for what happens in advanced queues...you need to basically be able to solo them if you want optionals.

And there we have to power creep i talk about, you need a power creep to make (the nieuwer) advanced queues work.
The normal i talked about was the "Dranuur Gauntlet", players blow up every 10 seconds

That kind of gear and having problems with the Normal PUGs? And I play mostly on the weekends as well. Weekdays are for DOffing and Admiralty stuff and crafting.

A lot of people simply do not pay attention to what their ship is capable of. Or isn't. Then, they PUG. Which means you have to do your part and theirs as well. All it takes is one person in a five man team to mess up things for everyone else. With PUGs, you get what you pay for. Somebody assumes 'everyone else will carry me, so it does not matter'. And then that somebody is joined by another somebody. You already know the rest of the story.

I hate to say this, because it really sounds kinda snotty. Doesn't make it any less true. And it is not intended as a put down. You need to, in order:
    - Read up some more on the game.
    - "Git Gud."
    - Stop PUGging.

When I first started playing this game, I sucked. I had no idea at all what to do. Made worse by this being my first ever MMO. Hated playing so badly because it felt like I was losing the game. Googled STO and found the wiki for it. Five minutes there and I realized my playing poorly was caused by not knowing enough. "Knowledge is power. Guard it well." Began reading and I am still learning new things about this game six years on.

The 'git gud' part is easy. Experiment with everything. Ask questions of people. Both here and ingame. I am never so busy nor so lofty about STO that I cannot take the time to help someone out. I'll be glad to tell you everything I know about STO and it will be the best 90 seconds of your whole day. Promise.

The second step in 'git gud' is play the game. But not just everything and anything. Wanna find out what that new Console really does? Run a Patrol Mission. Something where you can control the variables. So you can pay attention to the effects without all the distractions of an STF. Knowledge is power. But it must be tempered with experience. And it is no substitute for it. When I first started playing I was told, "No one uses Tetryon, n00b! Everyone uses Antiproton!" So I decided to find out what Tetryon weapons can and cannot do. I have a Mogai which is all Tetryon all the time which has no difficulties with anything in the game. I spent time figuring out what worked with Tetryon and what doesn't.

Whenever you are in an STF with more experienced players, watch what they do. Ask questions. I spent a lot of time in STFs using the wingman concept. I would select a player who obviously knew what was what first. Then, I moved when and where they moved and I shot at what they shot at.

Stop PUGging. This can be a very enjoyable game when played by yourself. It becomes even more enjoyable when played with friends and fleetmates. PUGs are what they are and that is all they will ever be. A quick way to get aggravated at total strangers acting badly. Playing with friends and fleetmates means forming a team. Having the members of this team act in a consistent manner. Being able to rely upon them to cover your mistakes. The real reason the Queues are allegedly dead is most of us who've played for awhile prefer to play Private Queues with friends and fleetmates.

Lastly, STO is a game. Not a lifestyle choice. Whenever I find myself getting really irritated, I log out and go do something else. Even if this means I do not play STO for the next week or so. Or month. Games are supposed to be fun. STO is pretty fun most days. it is even more fun when you know what you're doing and can play well regardless of how badly everyone else is doing.

I'm in game at this handle: @thunderfoot1007. Be glad to offer any help I can. Please look me up. What I know, I'll share. What I don't know, I know how and where to find out about.

Wait..Hold on..With that your finding it tough on normal?! you should be able to do Advance easily..As coldnapalm said the weapons alone would be enough for normal..I am doing advanced stuff with a half baked ship experimenting in advance and still dish out a decent amount..There is something wrong here and guessing your game style of play..With what you have currently it should be comfortable to do advance stuff even in the storyline..I just did the Borg DC'd, Hive, Battle of Procy, Counterpoint all on elite and it felt normal..Nothing really funny except NPC's going boom..Check your gameplay style dude..I cant think of anything else cause your gear is fine..
