Victory is Life new faction will be Buy to Play

Reason "For the first time ever, players will be able to experience Star Trek Online through the eyes of the Jem’Hadar, genetically engineered soldiers of the Dominion. This brand-new playable faction will start at level 60 with a variety of completed Reputations, Specialization Trees, Duty Officer tracks, and R&D progress." https://trekmovie.com/2018/03/21/star-trek-online-victory-is-life-expansion-to-feature-voices-of-10-deep-space-nine-actors/

They aren't going to let people start out at level 60 for free and have Reputations, Specialization Trees, Duty Officer tracks, and R&D progress already filled. I'll bet anything you'll have to start with a T6 ship that you pay for when you buy access to the new faction. They aren't going to put in a new low low quality t4 ship for a level 60 character starting off that already has all the maxed out bells and whistles with it.

Go ahead and argue against it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did charge for the Jem'Hadar.
They would basically be giving away instant or near instant dilithium farmers for free. I don't see that happening.

It's probably already going to TRIBBLE up the dilith-zen exchange.

The (universal?) practice of MMO's with high level starting characters: lock them to completion of a standard character. Level through once, then you can unlock your Death Knight/Reaper/Jem'Hadar.

STO is not going to enter a buy-to-play arrangement, it's simply not how the game is built.

That's a pretty low threshhold as you can max out a toon in a week or less.

    Don't expect an actual faction.
Every time we got a "faction" they've put less effort and independence into it.
Roms were announced as a "faction", they've got a couple of episodes and then join either kdf or fed and are treated as such.
TOS was announced as a "faction", it got five episodes and are a regular fed after that.

My guess is that the jem'hadar will basically be a new species with it's own 2-3 episode tutorial which ends up in choosing fed/kdf and that's about it.

It's a faction that starts at level 60. I think they will be aligned with the Dominion by default. That could help with admiralty as they are not going to have the ships Fed-KDF would have access to.

    Your proof? You have none.

If you were borderline literate you'd see I already posted it.

That isn't exactly proof but the reasoning is sound. You may be right about it being a purchase. I know of no f2p games that offer a boosted character (that is what this is) for free. We'll see if they address it in a bit.

Paid access is increasingly out of vogue for the MMO market, and it hasn't even been popular for several years. Even MapleStory (an old guilty pleasure of mine that was way worse with its paid content policies than STO) eventually made their paid access classes and abilities free to access. Freebie T6 ships aren't unheard of, or for that matter technically necessary even for a level 60 character.

You posted a link to a website that doesn't say anything about having to pay to play this faction. There's no reason to believe that this update will be any different from the previous updates we've had.

Also, attacking other posters who challenge your assumptions is rude and only casts further doubt onto your already unbelievable claims.

I have to agree with @azrael605 on this.

I am not even going to bother with the new faction, I am already disappointed enough that it won't be a Cardassian faction.

There are already purchaseable races. Nothing really new there. But starting at 60... not sure why they'd do that. They'd be missing out on all that 'grind time' that pads their stats. So I'd not be surprised if you have to pay to play a Jemmy to start at 60. Now you can probably play a FREE Jemmy if you start at level 1. That way they can keep their 'all content is free' advertising w/o lying. ;)

And seeing how many damn reputations there are, paying for a toon with alot of those filled out already may be worth it, depending on the price. And to attract new players too. How many new players would start if they knew the horrible rep grinds they'd have in front of them? Especially for all the dead queues. It's one thing to grind rep when everyone is doing the new one, it's a HUGE pain to go back and get an old one.

I doubt it. Since they KNOW what characters you have on an account, I would assume to 'unlock' a Jem Hadar, you just have to have a Level 60 character on your account. Also, I'm sure anything 'special will be 'Bound to Character', so that you can't just outfit your other characters with Level 600 Jem Hadar gear, etc.

As for another 'Dil Farming' character; so what? I don't think they're too concerned as it really isn't had to get a character to where they can easily farm the 8000 a day refine limit. I don't think they're too concerned on that front.

Granted I saw the post before the edit. All you had was an OPINION that had some thought behind it but zero data. Meaning it was NOT fact. Nice try.

I think Geko actually said in an interview that they might handle future mini-factions in a way they've compared to unlockable species in The Blizzard MMO That Must Not Be Named, by making them account unlocks with fully leveled characters. Obviously I don't know that that's what they've done here (the moderator team is not in direct contact with the developers beyond forwarding bug reports occasionally), but I wouldn't put it past them.
