A "Constitutional" Question

Heh. Couldn't resist the pun, sorry.

To the point, however: I am absolutely blown away by the impressive redesigns of the Miranda and Constitution classes done by our mighty lord of starship models, Thomas Marrone - and the second done entirely on his own time. As a fan of both of these designs, well done, sir.

It's also quite cool that there is a T6 version which allows us, if so inclined, to return to our "starter ships". (I also hold out hope, as a fan of this design ever since watching three of them get zapped to oblivion by V'Ger, for a K't'inga remodel and a T6 K't'inga.)

Yet there is something about all this that bugs me.

For ages on end, ever since we first started flying around in them, there has been the request for an endgame-level Constitution class, refit or otherwise. The generally repeated gospel as to why we didn't have one is because of CBS guidelines. Which I now wonder what the point of is, especially now that we're at the point where everyone is flying around with TOS-era ships, Kelvin-prises and Vengeances, and alien ships by the score. My fleet's leader, for instance, favors a Tholian Tarantula. He's been flying around in it ever since he got it. And with the lockboxes and events and what not, we've got Lukari science vessels, Krenim timeships, Risian vessels (cruise liners with guns!), so on and so forth. Even with the store, we have Starfleet officers flying in Vulcan, Andorian, or Caitian ships.

Which brings me to the "Constitutional" question: With the rather eccentric variety that we are allowed to fly around in, why is having a T6 Constitution, refit or otherwise, such a heathen blasphemy that the only way to get it is by limited-time R&D pack offers and playing the Exchange game? Because in all honesty, it makes zero sense. It's money in the waiting - given how many people have asked for it, and for T6 designs of other earlier ships (I know a number of people are clamoring for a T6 Nova, and I'm for that, too, heh). I refuse to accept the idea that we can have so many oddball ships at our disposal, but this one would be a game-breaker.

It's the way they decided to release it. It's not "blasphemy," and despite the fact you "refuse to accept" it, that's the way it is.

It's a special, special ship. Gotta play the random chance game or pay the big bucks for it. It's not supposed to be a widely-available ship.

Then why have it at all beyond this, is the point I'm making. The Excelsior and Miranda, both of the same vintage as the Connie refit, have T6 updates (and the Excelsior had a T5 one first). We can run around T6 with TOS ships and ships from the 27th century, so on and so forth. And that's just the ones on the store.

The point is: Why is this one so "special" that the only way to get it is an R&D promo and random chance? I mean, the Kelvin-prise, I get why, but the Connie refit was a ship we've had since this game started. Why this one ship is "off limits" save for these special little offers, while we can blow away Borg cubes with a ship that's a century and a half out of date (or a century and a half from the future!), confuses me, and again, I refuse to accept that some silly "guideline" prevents it while allowing for all the rest.

If this ship is not supposed to be widely available, then what is the point of having it at T2? That sounds pretty widely available to me.

Basically what coldnapalm said. The Connie isn't like the Excelsior or the Miranda. It's the Enterprise and Enterprise-A. They're selling it at a premium, because it's a hot commodity.

Refuse to accept it all you want, OP. It is what it is. May I suggest playing ST:Legacy or ST:Bridge Commander or any of the Starfleet Command games if you need someone to just give you a TWOK Connie out of the goodness of their heart so badly?

What you are doing is called begging. It's not a good look on you. Makes you appear weak and not in control of yourself or your life.

I certainly don't expect it to be "given"; if it were available on the store, I'd buy it in a heartbeat (wallet permitting), and so would plenty of others. As to the other charge...talking about weakness and "good looks", an old saying about pots and kettles springs readily to mind...

What I'm doing, friends, buddies, pals, etc., is trying to figure out the logic (*checks for points on his ears* Nope, okay, good) behind why a ship we get for more or less free at T2, and for maybe five bucks at T1, can't get a T6 upgrade on the store, and why with the insane assortment of ships we have, they have to resort to the lockbox gamble. Yes, fools and their money, the gambling game, maybe that's what it seems to be - but that's not the reason Cryptic gave us all this time. The reason they gave us was CBS saying they can't just make it available, with no real explanation as to why, beyond perhaps the (rather pithy) answer that "they were the Enterprise"...if that's the case, why should it necessarily stop at the Connie? We're up to five other ship classes that have had ships with that name readily available on the store, though the Ambassador was kind of a promotional thing (also something I've kind of wondered about). Though perhaps since one was invented specifically for this game, maybe that'll slide...but I digress.

So I question it, and will continue to question it. Patronize and insult me all you wish.

It probably goes more into the design philosophy behind "T6" vessels more than anything.

The concept behind T6 is that Cryptic can re-introduce new ships with "specialist" Bridge Officer layouts. Cryptic obviously intends to create more types of "specializations". It seems fairly obvious they would with-hold some vessels to ensure the success of future "specializations".

I can easily see a future "cruiser pack" featuring a T6 Exter (with optional Connie Refit costume), a T6 Vor'cha and a T6 Rommie ship (with optional D-7/K'Tinga costume). Such a pack would sell well, even if the new "specialization" is total garbage. The Resolute is easily the worst cruiser in the game, yet it sells because of the Excelsior.

    So have patience.

I think the reason we will never see a T-6 Connie is the fact once it gotten, nobody will want purchase anything else. Why I say this is because I just got one for my main character. I don’t care to fly anything else. If the T-6 Connie is the Cadillac of starships why would anyone want spend real money to buy anything else?

What does necro posts mean?? Second, I don’t care about stats, compared to commanding the same class as ship as Kirk at an end game level. Coldnapalm, I believe you are in the minority of believing that the constitution is an ugly ship. However this still America and you have the right to be wrong.

First off, my point is that cryptic gets more money buy keeping the Connie hard to get. Judging by the amount of money they rakes in from special boxes that contains the T-6 Connie, or should I say a chance to get one. Cryptic would not not ever make the money they do now if the T-6 Connie were readily available in the C-store. The amount of money that has been spent in pursuit of the T-Connie should be proof enough that Kirk’s is beloved by trekies. Just because you don’t care for doesn’t it’s not desirable for others.
Just for haha, if it wasn’t for Kirk’s show, there woul be no STO.

Yeah, I resurrected this thread. It happens.

Let's consider that the Connie Refit ship design is obsolete by Federation standards, being introduced in the 2270s while STO is set in 2410. It's therefore reasonable that the ship is a low-level vessel, like the Miranda-class frigate (which is likewise low-level and from the same era). Second, the Connie is extremely recognizable, even as compared to the Miranda and Galaxy-class (or D7/K'tinga, Bird of Prey or D'deridex, for that matter) so keeping the number of T6 Connies low maintains their "exclusivity" and impact. How awesome is it when you see a T6 Connie warp in for a Red Alert, for example? Third, there is the (well-documented in this thread) profit motive for keeping a highly-desirable ship available only in low numbers. Finally, there are always rare things in MMOs like server-unique items, special rewards, throwbacks that escaped updates and special promotional objects. STO has several, but T6 Connies and Ferengi Nagus Marauders come immediately to mind.

If the T6 Connie means enough to you, you'll find a way to get it. If not, there's a whole galaxy of starships available for you to choose from. Enjoy! :)
