So is this the last of the giveaways for this Anniversary? I saw someone say that a "Dev" mentioned on Reddit that there was going to be something tomorrow as well. That doesn't make much sense to me, but I thought I'd ask.

As for the Free Spec points, thanks a bunch. I only need 2 more to get Strategist finished now and then I can move on to Miracle Worker.

If I remember right, previous giveaways for specialization points were per character. Why the change?

I don't remember the spec points being per character, but my memory can be flighty lol...wait, I do now. Well still free is free and thank you.

Also, you CAN claim them on lower-ranked characters, you just can't use them till they hit lvl60
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

Thank you, this is exactly what my Romulan toon needs most.

He doesn't have as many admiralty ships as my FEDs so all help is welcome.

    Two points per account??!!
Then I say you can keep it, that's just dumb.
I'm not going to grovel at your feet for free giveaways which are just a FU in our face.
It was the same with the dilithium "gift". Talk about a drop in the ocean for even one character.

I remember it being 2 points per account, as well.
I hadn't finished Miracle Worker yet, so I figured that it didn't matter which character I claimed it on. It turns out that I claimed it on a character who hadn't started MW, but had enough spec points to finish it, so they ended up being useless (for now).
    Still, thanks!

It was two per character before, and it happened a total of three times. Every time something is given away per character, the act of me switching between all 54 of my characters is burnt into my brain. All 54 of my characters have at least an extra 6 spec points now.

But they're free. I'm just glad they're giving them to us. It could be a lot worse, there are games out there that give away no freebies.

Everytime it was Spec points, it was per account guys.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

Wrong, i remember at least 2 or 3 such Giveaways where we got 2 Speci Points PER Character, not per Account. I Still Remember, because claiming stuff on several Dozen Characters, takes time >_> (45 Chars atm)

I can't believe (well I can, but still) that people are complaining about getting something for free. I don't care if it's 1 unrefined dilithium, it's still free.

This is exactly like a slap in the face. I can't believe you would physically assault me in this manner. I am on the phone to the police as we speak.

    Oh wait, no I'm not.

    Thanks guys!

The ones given out on 1/26/2017 and 1/26/2016 and 10/25/2015 and 8/13/2015 were two Spec Points per Character. The problem with this one is that they seem not to be in a Pack. I claimed it on a Character to put the Pack into the Account Bank but they were immediately applied to the Character on Claim.

Yeah that automatically happens unless your character isn't of the level to use them yet. Unfortunate if it wasn't the character you wanted the points to go to.

These were free for us all though so a half enthusiastic "yahoo" but it makes me wonder why Cryptic decided to diminish their free offerings.

Spec points from previous giveaway were not in a pack too and they were per character.

Previous spec points must have been in packs as I levelled a few alts to 60 with the past few xp weekends who all had points boxed and banked waiting to be used.
  • banshirbanshir Member Posts: 102 Arc User
I still have spec points stored in packs on my low level alts so they definitely came that way in past giveaways. At least for low levels.

When they are per Character they can open automatically, but at once per Account that is no way to run it. For Endeavors you can be awarded 1/4 Specialization Point. It comes in a Pack and is Account Bound. It does NOT auto open.

I claimed the spec points on my level 60 main character with maxed out specialization trees and the 2 spec points were directly converted to 5760 unrefined Dilithium. Oops...

My intention was to save them and use them once a new specialization might come out in the future. I had done so before and maxed out Miracle Worker in an instant. Can't say retrospectively how exactly I did it, but according to the Wiki spec points earned from Federation admirality and Featured episodes before season 11.5 did not count toward the maximum and were saved instead. Well, not anymore... I guess 5760 unrefined Dilithium is even a worse deal than 10,000 refined Dil :# But then it's still free and I don't play my second TOS character in any case. I would also take a cookie if it was for free and be happy about it :D B)

It's even worse if you are at max Specialization Points and you get the 10 of 10 Federation Tour of Duty. Instead of two Spec Points you get that 5,760 Unrefined Dilitium. 10 of 10 for KDF or Ferengi is 30,000 Unrefined Dilitium. So in their zeal to prevent the accumulation of Spec Points they royally scr*wed the Federation ToD.

This all stems from the infamous 'Japori Incident' after the Delta Quadrant Expansion dropped. People maxed out the then Spec limit in a day or so by continually running Japori Patrols and started amassing a ton of Dilitium as each level after max gave Dilitium. They then removed Dilitium awards after max. People saved Spec Points. They didn't like it that people were completing new Spec Trees the same day they came out so they started giving out Dilitium again after new max levels, I believe at a smaller scale, auto opened Spec Point Boxes, wouldn't allow Federation ToD 10 of 10 Spec Points to accumulate, etc.

    A typical Geko mess.
