Just voicing something I find funny.. We went from having hourly events that rotated times per day, to having themed event weekends four times a month, and now we have a single weekend event a month... GG Cryptic GG. Oh? Want the dil weekend? Give it four months to cycle back through. Want to upgrade your stuff? That will be another few months...
My question is... Why? Why are they removing these events that only help the game?

Its not complicated though, they just setup a basic system to go, hey this weekend is this, this weekend is that. It seems like they are just gutting the games contents... Anything that helps the player or is something the player likes must go apparently.
Let me do event content at the time of day that I want to.

But at the same time I must say that the hourly events weren't exactly great either imo. My main problem with these was that you needed to log on during a specific part of the day to do them. I don't know how others think about this, but I don't like being 'forced' to log on during specific hours.
If I log on, I want to play at that moment, not come back three or four hours later cause I might have other things to do then (ok, that's not true but still I don't like to have to schedule my day around such a mini-event)
At least with these weekend/weekly events you can decide at what part of the day you want to go and log on. There is no 'bad moment to log on' so to say.
However OP, we have never had an event every weekend. It was fortnightly, and the pattern has not really changed in years.
But why would you want to make content unavailable outside of these events?
I know that most of the queues are dead, but some of them still see some activity now and then. Reducing the availability of content would certainly not be my preferred way to solve the fact that it's not played that often. It seems rather illogical to me.
No one is running them anyway. Especially Elites.
No elites = no salv tech for me. No salv tech = no upgrades.
I’m stuck in Mark XII stuff cuz the most efficient upgrade path is locked off by STFs. Quality upgrading is a pipe dream.
Only Elite running is Miner Instabilities And has a queue of 5 minutes or more and takes forever to run.
Not quite what you think. As long as the mission started before the end of the hour, it could still be completed with full rewards. You didn't get booted from them. I am talking just the STF's though. The Doff Appreciation weekend is way better than the hourly.
Because people go for the easy route. If the hourly queues went ahead, they should make it a Choice of Marks box, excluding Fleet Marks. It would also give the perfect opportunity to revise Mark awards, with it linked to a scale of how fast it is capable of being completed. I really want the opportunity to play Original Breach with a big award, due to it's time required to complete.
you should of noticed over the last year and bit that Cryptic don't communicate with their community any more and when they do it is through third party media places like podcasts and reedit and even then there is hardly anything for the community beyond repeating news they have on what they have coming next or having the players contact them instead of them reaching out and making some sort of effort.
they used to do these events, but now you'd be lucky to find an event outside the traditional summer, winter and anniverary events. I would like to see them come back to the community and engage again.
i doubt it is focus on a new system, they had time for the community before even when they were busy, it is no reason not to come back and be there for the community once more.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Speak for yourself. I loved the hourly's and the life it brought to the queues during bonus marks. The queues have never been the same since they removed it.
You were never able to earn VR DOffs from the particle scan hourly because nobody could. It awarded dilithium back then.
Hourly particle scan was fine (for the state of the game at the time) if you did it at Klingon Academy. It was less-crowded, with fewer people running over each others' paths. The trick to it was to get a path that had just about enough particle spawns so that the first one was finished about the time that you got back to it, so that you were constantly scanning without having to wait. Of course I wouldn't do it for dilithium now, given the abundance of more efficient sources.
If you count all the bonus weekends and etc, there is an 'event' of some sort going on 99% of the time! Cryptic is addicted to special limited time events to keep the players logging on!
*For Cryptic, 'event' is synonymous with 'grind'.
That's exactly what he did
I played the regular version of the Breach event a few weeks ago when I last tried to queue for it.
But I agree very much that a rescaling of rewards is needed. I just don't see why that would mean making content unavailable for most of the time by putting them on a hourly rotation.
Giving extra rewards for certain missions during specific hours could work, but just have them available outside of those hourly events as well.
I wish there were constant "special limited time events" in the game, but fact is they've been leeching out the "specialness" even from the few real events they do run.
The endeavours are a better timescale, although some are a total joke to get done either because they are bugged somehow (tholian captain) or just stupidly easy (a single grav well use to get todays kinetic damage one) and a lot of them still give misleading info (future arc for solonae missions?)
That pool of six instances all must be scaling and can include Raids and that pool can change periodically.
l don't know.
l really don't know what l'm about to say, except l have a feeling about it.
That l must repeat the words that come without my knowledge.'
Though always felt that the instance/stf pool is just so damn high that it makes it hard for players to find it appealing to try an get groups going for other instances/stfs than those that are known for being quick pops. If you reduce the number of available instances/stfs to a more manageable an less daunting amount, players might feel more interested in attempting to do other instances/stfs.
Even the idea of having a set of three drop/item pools that have unique rewards on them, but that are divided between the different lengths of instances. That could give more appealing incentive for players to que up for other instances of varying lengths. Could populate the pools with other rewards as well that could be used for other content, and then adding to these pools over time would keep them fresh an relevant too.
Having a schedule of events to look at I thought was a good thing as you could always look forward to what was coming up next and plan your game time.
