Change gender and species with zen

I would like it to be the option to change the genre and species by zen in the game.
Is it possible that this option may be enabled in the future?
Thanks, and sorry for my bad english :cold_sweat:

possible? with enough time and money just about anything is possible. likely not at all. they have basically said the way characters are set up it take too much work and not really get them anything back for that work.

best to make a new character of whatever you want.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

Taco said ultimately they want to put gender and race change on the tailor. This would be very cool. Problem is it's probably very low on priority.

If you check out the clothing you can see there are gender, race and faction locked parts that needs attention individually. That's a huge work.

For example I can't put the knitted hat on orion males but on females I can. WTF, hello Taco?

May a dev will get bored and make this change sometime on their spare time? That seems to be when they do their best work...

It's much easier to just create a new character.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

Yes. In the end few people would use it and it would have low if any profit expectation.

This is really something they should've though of when they first made the system.

One might say Cryptic has been continually shooting themselves in the foot with the random restrictions on clothes. There is no realistic reason why any character wouldn't be able to wear any clothes, none of the races is that much anatomically different. Same for hairstyles. Makes no sense if a character (of a race that has hair) space-magically can't have it cut in a specific style just because.

Not to even get into the exponentially growing mess of individual "this item can't be worn with that item" -restrictions that are the real huge work that needs attention individually...and for entirely negative effect of limiting players' creativity.

On more than one occasions in the past player had the opportunity to access the unrestricted tailor meaning you can get all clothing and even all clothing combinations that are unlocked on your account. Of course clipping issues turn up much more often and some racial features (like the back of a Klingon) are simply not available for all specie’s attire (like Orion uppers).

I really think if cryptic wanted to make money out of it tho they could easily unlock the unrestricted tailor only for let’s say lifetime accounts in order to boost sales of subscriptions.

Keeping some racial features (with clothing being one of the main) intact simply seems to feel more important to them however.

If there’s a chance to make money off it then it should be considered by them tbh. I mean even for say 500-1000 zen a lot of people would happily pay for fully open tailor options.

Not really. It takes a long time to max a character and get many of the achievements. I won't take that much time to do it.

My desire on this point isn't species or gender however. I'd like to switch my main from Federation to TOS. So yeah, that will never happen.

It takes a whole 6 hours of total playtime to go from level 0 to level 50, using nothing but story missions. That is not a long time.

That's not maxing a character. That's just the start of maxing a character, especially for a player who likes his achievements.

Making a new character is free (unless all your slots are filled, then Zen can still come to the rescue). What I'd like is to put on my character whatever I want, regardless of junk or knobby forehead prosthetics.

No such thing as maxing a character, not anymore. Every new spec tree adds 30 "levels". But like I said 6 hours to 50, maybe another 10 to 12 total hours of playtime (spread over a week) augmented with Doffing and Admiralty to get to 60. Its not a long process.

Still, you can create a new character but there's going to be a few points of investment that it won't be able to easily match. Ex. having the Kobali uniform, the shard of possibilities, or recruitment event dialogs.

And (to make a general point about the topic) for a player like myself that can be a problem. I have six characters that I continuously develop. I've tried to make a seventh but it's a step beyond what I'm able to keep up with (I've tried to simply ignore one and keep to the pattern but that doesn't work for me.) I could delete characters and start over with the ideal mix, but...timed exclusives.

So that's six crews to try to build a set of stories with but through the circumstances of how those characters were made there is some overlap and mis-matched combos. I'd like to have a more versatile group of six but this is what I've got. It does limit how I can approach STO and a system that would allow more species/gender flexibility would help a lot with that.

Do you even play this game? There are many things to max.

Just off the top of my head- bonuses from achievement as well as just getting the achievements themselves, epic gear (space and ground with the right RNG rolls required as so much is bound to the existing main), getting lock box ships (also bound to the main) and traits, maxing all Reps, maxing all R&D (months of effort there alone), getting Doff ranking maxed, collecting special bound DOFFs, completing all the Admiralty ranking.

I've been at this with an TOS alt starting when Agents of Yesterday hit. He's still a noob compared to my main who has had five years of effort put into him. You can't duplicate that in 50 hours. And even when I'm close, there are things my main has that are no impossible for my TOS alt to ever get as they've been removed from the game.

    sucks

It's all just data, it can be changed. But allowing the change produces far less income for Cryptic than making you create a new alt. To say nothing of the time investment needed by the player. No game company will give that up.

You already can change species and gender with zen. It's called buy a rename, then "construct additional pylons," aka get more character slots. It's really that simple.

I used to want the transgender character, but thanks to skant, my dude can wear a skirt! But seriously, I still want the random transporter accident that reassigns gender of you decline a queue thing. Totally need it.

I think what the previous poster meant to say was "it's much easier for cryptic if you create a new character."

Also, cryptic makes more money when you create a new character. That's why they don't want to add a race and gender changing options. If you put a bunch of time and zen into a character only to decide now that you want a different gender, you'll have to reroll a new one. Doing so ensures that you spend even more time playing. And we all know that the longer you play, the more likely you are to buy zen.

Creating characters adds variables that leads to additional revenue for cyptic. Much more than a pitiful (presumably) 500 zen race or gender change option.

You stated that it was so easy to make a new main that there is no need for a paid method to switch race, gender or faction.

And now you won't admit that you were just doing a knee jerk response to a desire that you hadn't even considered. Fine, I've wasted enough time on you.

Because of the nature of quoting, I can see why you think that portion of my post was directed at you. I broke it off as a separate paragraph from my response to you to let it stand on it's own as "general information" for the forum at large.

I'd personally like to be able to change professions, but I understand the underlying difficulty to implement such a system and why it probably won't happen.
