in Star Trek Online General Discussion
So ive been on winterholiday since 1984. Never ever seen a winterrace where ppl run around a lake. Olympic sport anyone??
Wow.. how poor.. snowboards (or hoverboard like on Risa) or skis were too much work apparently. This is gonna be a seriously non-fun grind towards that Breen T6. Meh..

    What grind?? It's a run around a track. Racing drivers complete more laps in a race than the 25 we do. It's not a grind for 2 minutes a day.

    The Winter Event is fun as is the Summer Event, are there hits & misses to both? Yes, but we don't want a simple copy & paste but 1 is summer & 1 is winter neither. Having a couple of features unique for each event is perfectly acceptable imo. I look forward to both for STO when the time comes around. I don't even consider it a grind. You log-in for a few minutes run a race which isn't difficult & several times later you earn a T6 ship. Don't get me wrong Cryptic performs lousy on a lot of things but this type of event isn't one of them. Cryptic has done well here, especially after making the ship account-wide! Kudos to Cryptic for this winter event & the summer event to come.

    @alfred#7355, you're entitled to your opinion. We're all entitled to disagree with it :)

    It's a 3 minute event, once a day. It's been a part of Q's wonderland for many years now. No one is forcing you to spend 75 minutes to earn a $30 ship. Play or don't.

    Hey, don't try to convince this guy to play if he doesn't want to. Let it be one less guy to add to the rubberbanding. ;)

    Heck I've asked for year's why not a downhill sled course or even Ice Skating on a Frozen River that could easily be a Speed Skating Race using the existing Winter Boost just like on the Pond. Holding SHIFT down you can actually skate pretty fast - I just wished they'd change the silly Fastest Game on Ice to use Winter Boots or Ice Skates... Then they'd only need to add a few miniature snow borg or snowconians throwing honey to slow us down on the first downhill part of the course or otherwise we have to jump or avoid their obstacles or avoid being hit by a giant cannon. <3

    Okay my comments couldve been a bit less harsh. This is my first wwl and the risa event just seems more 'inspired' than this. I was expecting more I guess.

    Wishfull thinking issues.. lets call it that.

    I got the hang of the race now and I agree, 2-3 minutes is not much per day but it is something that im not looking forward to for the next 25 days. Except for the fact that theres a nice ship waiting at the end. Thats why I call it a grind..

    PS: This event has been the same for years now?! Well then .. here's my vote for some updates next year.. :)

    The event has not been the same for years. They're constantly adding things. It's getting a bit too much for me personally and I'd like to see a solution to events becoming less available because there are more to rotate, but it's definitely not the case that it has remained unchanged.

    As for the ship: yeah it can be boring and perhaps they could change it such that Winter Invasion or the Competitve race also counts for the daily. If not, it's not a problem either imo. You get a free Admiralty card for the daily race, and for those who have less ships I can imagine that the ship itself is also very welcome.

    Heck, I've done it so many times I challenge myself by sprinting non-stop through the whole thing without using the bunny hop to control my drifting. Instead I use it, by using mouse look (well, holding down Right Button) and looking into the turn before hitting it, therefor sliding through the turn like a drifting car from that one racing anime (forgot the name). I still do the Kirk Tumble to catch myself if I drift too far, but I'm trying to time myself so I won't have to at all.

    Many times I've passed the NPC of the racer before me. And once (and only that once) I was catching up to the player. Of course it's only because he was walking the race and I had a near-perfect sprint. I was so close to passing him too.

    Thats probably way safer than tobogganing in the Black Hills. On the other hand its really funny watching people run from Bison. Less fun watching them run from wolves or mountain lions (saw one in my front yard once, no joke) cause if your close enough to see it your too close.
    Aww... puppies and kitties! Do you ever have tourists try to pet them? I've heard mountain lions have amazingly soft fur. I've never felt the urge to verify it manually though.
