Mirror Invasion Run....from Hell.

Yes, it was me. I created it.

I apologize profusely to the 4 other players in the mission that I joined in this morning. I was a total fail.

Well, it was 10-ish (MST) by the clock on the wall...when I decided, "Hey, I got plenty of time before the Termite Guys get here for the inspection." BTW..appointment is at 11. Come on, trade guys never show up on time. "I can get a Mirror Invasion run in with at least one of my characters!! Maybe even two!!" Whoo hoo!!

So, you know, THE Universe must have been listening in on this, going, "OH...we got a hot one...we can get her GOOD, now. Heh! Heh! Heh!!"

Sit down at my computer...call up STO...botched the password. That should have been a sign. Nope. Nothing was going to deter me from my goal...must get the MI Token for the day on all my characters.

In the background, I can hear the cat is howling. He's loud.

Which character to choose?? Eh, the one I hate to play with the most: Temporal Recruit. The "I would trash her if my Fleet didn't need the Dil" character...Fed fleet at that, blech. Lets get this one over with.....

BTW...she is in a turquoise and pink Risian corvette named "Death of Me". Can it get any better than that??? LOL!

Spend a couple of minutes sending her to ESD Security to turn in Contra...etc... Meantime, cat is still howling and then JUMPS on the back of my office chair in one leap (the Ferasean I have in game, yup, named after this cat).

Clearly, he must have been trying to tell me: don't do this, Mary!!! Am I listening? Nope. He goes for one last attempt...stretches over from the desk onto the chair arm, tries to get on my lap for the block. HA! I have already clicked the button to join the queue.

I say to him, "I am going into battle...I can't pet you right, now."

++++++++++++

Meantime, on the other side of the office...Hubby is grumbling.

Actually, he's been grumbling all morning...something about the internet being down. "Is it OK if I power restart the modem?", was a question that came up while I was running between bathrooms 3 and 2 carrying an armful of cleaning implements with rubber gloves on. Really?

So, it seems, he's still having problems.

The countdown is on....Invasion is about to start...and it is my wifely duties to troubleshoot WiFi issues. He was in the room when I was yelling at my cat about "GTFO, I am going into battle??" Yeah, pretty sure he was.

He couldn't say anything just a tad bit earlier??

"How come I can still hear your radio?" He listens to stuff on the internet. He says, "It's a podcast". That has absolutely no meaning to me.

But I KNOW for a fact the internet is NOT down. BECAUSE....I am about to get blown to smithereens by a Terran something or another. I can't see all the details, right now.

It is difficult at best to prevent a Mirror Invasion while isolating Wifi issues with the Hubby. And vice versa. But this is related to his job and if I don't at least give him a modicum of attention, it won't be pretty.

So, my Temporal Recruit shall have to suffer...which I don't mind a least bit because I hate this character. "Ka-boom! LOL!", says The Universe, in the form of a Terran something.
How is this even happening? I am really not this bad!! Obviously, my timing is off on my heals, and buffs or something....

Did I mention the cat is still howling, albeit from another room? He's loud.

Hubby has figured out everything is fine except for his "Work" laptop. Has decided to dump wifi for a cable to connect said laptop directly to the modem. OK...I can concentrate, now....STO. Respawn. Close some rifts on the outskirts...get back in the fray....

Hubby is thumping around the other side of the office in the bookshelf, cabinets and drawers. Sigh. "Honey, I have a brand new one over here in my desk," I offer. He's gonna have to come over to get it because, I ain't giving up this game. NOT. Starting. Over, again. F-that.

"No, no, no...it's OK, I got one over here.... Somewhere...."
Face. Palm. I turn to my side desk. Grab the new cable (still in a box), turn to hand it over...and he has his cable in his hand. ON screen: it's the Dreadnoughts coming through the rifts!!! How the heck did I miss this much of the mission?

I realize the PUG would have coped just as well had I just gone AFK. But....the end is soooo near.

"Hey, Mary, look, the Bug Guy is here."
What!?!?! It is, like, WAY, way early!!
This never happens!!
I must be dealing with THE Mirror Universe.

For a fleeting moment I considered I might be able to collect the token before he gets out the truck. "Knock! Knock! Knock! LOL!", says THE Mirror Universe in the form of the Termite Inspector at the door. Great.

I give up.
Options. EXIT.
It is quiet. Cat has gone into hiding.

Anyhoo... I apologize profusely to whatever PUG group I was with when all this went down. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.

You could just have let your captain die. Temporal agents should all be dead anyway. The integrity of the timeline demands their death (not that Daniels would care about integrity and all that, but anyway ;) ).

It is easy to TRIBBLE up Mirror Invasion.

Usually I'm entirely focussed on closing the rifts while others take care of powering the station, but often there's just too many of those rifts and it's impossible to keep up unless everyone is helping. And as soon as there are too many of them, it doesn't matter anymore how fast you kill the enemies. I've been in instances where before you can close a rift, ships will have re-appeared again and by the time you kill those, they will spawn from another rift nearby and so on.

Today the station was down to 80% when power was only just at 2/5 and we had barely started the mission - so with only a handful of ships having appeared. I'm still wondering what happened there.

At least there's enough to do and I really like the event. There are many days where I'm playing the mission at least three or four times on the same character.

Due to lag (wi-fi/ISP have been less than agreeable lately) I've had a hell of a time with this little chestnut of an event the last couple of days. Of course this event is the literal definition of spam so that plus lag = unhappy chappy. About 15 FPS pretty much the whole way through.

Of course I'm flying the Mogh with the tankiest setup I can manage within budget so ordinarily I barely notice if something shoots me, of course with lag.....100 to dead in less than a second or several seconds after the server has updated my end.

Only 7 more to go then I can have a break before doing a little extra so I can not bother with the event so much next time.

Personally I am sick and tired of ppl rushing to set off the Power Transfers and not close any Rifts in between that time. I am to the point now that I just want to see this event gone. Alot of morons out there that don't know how to play this event. Cryptic should not have put more rifts into the stages of the event. Seems no one (at least on a Normal Pug) can't handle the mess they make. I myself just going into the event only closing rifts on at least up to two sides, but I can't do this alone. This is out hand. I would have much rather played, and waited 2-4 minutes than put up with this BS.

Why would you get sick and tired? Relax, it's only a game.

Yes, a lot of players don't seem to be very good. But that's hardly something to get upset about imo.

    You'll get the token anyway.

By now most people expect to have bad runs of the MI, at least anyone who has played the game long enough to have sat through the torture before will.

Sometimes it does depend on the spawns. I had one run with folk being mostly active yet the station wasn't fully powered, rifts in single digits and actually failed the flagship timer. A lot of that run was down to the number of escorts and sci ships being spammed by the rifts at the start rather than the more normal three frigates.

Boss...if you get a week off work and you are spending it reading this post in the forums...you are dumber than you seem.

I sit with my Mirror counterpart on my bridge and we sip tea while watching everyone else explode.

My Temporal Recruit will be over with complimentary tray of little tea cakes and sandwiches and freshly baked scones.....plus a side dish of hot warp core breeches right from the middle of the fray you are watching.

She has her new spore drive so she can be there before you know what hit ya. :) ::::giggles::::

I am pretty sure we are not the only ones, either.

The way to grind these events is to run them on every character...and to do that one has to find any small windows of opportunities to squeeze in a MI run. And you can never know when THE Universe is going to bite you in the TRIBBLE.

The best I can do is cloak and follow some one who can take the aggro off me so I can de-cloak and close a rift without getting BFAW or Torped. Or try to find the sweet spot behind the Mirror ship and rift...where I can close them in relative quiet.

Then, I hear the complaints about "people who cloak" and "don't do anything". I am assuming: Feds, never used cloak??? So...can't win for losing.

I have been noticing rifts start spawning Cruisers and Science ships right off the bat instead of frigates, this time around. I wonder if that is a bug.

People are going to take the path of least resistance in MI. For some, this means they contribute by powering up the station. I prefer to close rifts. The reward for closing rifts can more than compensate for Obisek and his, ahem, 'warriors' losing the station. And even when the station powers up fully, the only thing it seems to be able to do is point the team towards the mirror dreadnought. Close enough rifts early and the station can take care of itself against whatever leakers sneak through.

But I am not going to moan about people playing this differently. As long as some newly minted lvl 60 in a Dilithium ship is willing to power up the Waffle House, it means I can hunt rifts more successfully. I kinda enjoy one shotting MU cruisers in my D4X and they are having fun as well.

Yeah, I am sorely missing my BoPs in this Mirror Invasion thing with the tactics I am using. The Pilot Raptors are OK....but raider flanking is useful as heck when following the Terran ships in after closing the rifts.

The station is actually also very annoying. That push ability it uses at a certain level, usually helps the enemy more than it hurts them.

    - Throw a gravity well or other kind of rift to quickly take down a small group of enemies. Watch the enemies being pushed away from the damaging anomaly.
    - Or activate a lot of buffs and aim your cannons. Only to watch the enemies being pushed out of range, outside your targeting arc etc.

Obisek is cool and all but he needs to find better tactical officers.

I had this happen to me this morning on one of my characters. And only happened once.

Everything slowed down...really creeping slowly. I could click buttons on my screen but nothing was going on. Then everything on the screen froze. The red no response from server counter pops up....then disconnected. It was like Uh OH.

It took 2 tries with the password to get back IN (no response from the server, so unable to get the character screen). At least, I was still in the MI mission when I got back....though to an exploding ship.

Launcher is still connected to the server...so that part is OK. Just the program itself not talking.

If this is happening to you every time? That is pretty sad.

Ah there was an old mission in the Cardassian Arc where you take all those out due to DS9 being taken over. So no one else to blame...

Sat here this morning (Saturday) doing nothing but MI on my 7 characters. Took me 3 hours (and 2 cups of coffee) to finish it. No wonder I am stressed for time to do this during the week!
