Can We Please Have Another Science Cruiser?

Hello!

So, we have tons and tons of tac-heavy cruisers; it seems as though every cruiser that comes out lately requires a lt. com. tac station or more. Meanwhile, the only science cruisers we have are either part of a eng/sci/tac 3-pack (which from my understanding everyone just uses the tac variants) or lockbox-exclusive.

I really want to see more science-heavy cruisers in this game; like a t6 c-store 4 science console, 2x lt.com. science station cruiser. We even have some great candidates for science cruisers as well that do not have t6 versions such as the Constellation and Ambassador.

Anyway, what I'm saying is that we are severely low on science cruisers and I would love to see more.

Thanks for your time!

Eventually, something like this will probably happen.

Just buy the Sci version of the Miracle Worker ships: Lt. Comm Sci, Lt. Comm Uni for a second Sci if you want, and up to 5 Science consoles thanks to the Universal console spot. Hard to get much more Sci-cruiser than that, at least C-Store. Consoles aren't that 'must have' from what I've heard, so no real downside of breaking the set.

If you're not on PC, don't worry, I'm sure they'll be coming to XB1/PS4 soon enough.

If and when we get Discovery content, I can kinda see the Crossfield class being science heavy.

Que people claiming the Guardian is a Tier 6 Ambassador in 3...2...1...

Seriously though, tom61 has a great point. Could be fun!

Thanks for the recommendation; I've looked into that ship before and while the stats look nice, I can't bring myself to get it mainly because it's a variant from a 3-pack while I would prefer to have a ship that didn't have the crutch of having a tac variant. While it can be purchased separately, I really just want Cryptic to try to make a stand-alone science cruiser for once. And access to a canon skin if possible.

the Guardian class is a science heavy crusier, as is the Sagittarius Temporal Cruiser.

and as far as canon skin the Fleet Support Cruiser Retrofit a.k.a the Ambassador class at fleet T-5u has 4 science console slots and a Lieutenant Commander science boff slot. works very well for my fed. just fly something else long enough to get a few useful starship traits and your good to go.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

The T5U Fleet Ambassador class was more science heavy than the Guardian.

Have you tried the T6 Nebula (Sutherland) - aka Advanced Research Vessel (T6)?

I mean, yeah, it's a science ship - but it's the same size as a cruiser (only marginally smaller than the Galaxy class) and has a similar turn rate. And it definitely ticks the 'canon' box.

That was what came to mind immediately for me as well. The T6 Nebula (Sutherland) is a NICE ship many of my friends enjoy; although one has to be prepared to buy a few Fleet Modules. This expands it from a Rare (10 console) ship to a slightly improved Fleet variation (11 console) ship; that's slightly more capable that normal Very Rare CSTORE (11 console) ships.

Lets see in 2017 there were 3 T-6 Science ships for Rom, Fed Kdf, 9 T-6 Recon Science ships for Rom, Fed, Klingon. Not enough for you? Never mind 2016's Fed T-6 Neb...

They are speaking of cruisers with a science bias which are not fully science ships.

The Vesta is a Sci ship but it looks like a cruiser with the right choices.

And the only reason why I would personally care about a Sci cruiser is because Sci ships are awesome, and cruisers look great (usually). The Vesta has it all.

The Multi Mission T6 (New Vesta/Gorn/Vulcroms) are great ships and I enjoy them a lot. But in how you play them, they couldn't be less eng-y. (Okay, maybe not in how YOU play them). Thanks to the aux cannons (cannons being a rank higher than beams in terms of BOff abilities) you're pretty much set to be non cruisering.

So yeah, Sci heavy cruisers would be something different. No need for me, and I think we already have tons of cruisers, and the Advanced Research Vessel may look and turn like a cruiser but just isn't, but it is a valid wish to have.

Honestly I found the Science Star Cruiser very boring, if I wanted to use science ships I would use them instead of cruisers with science abilities.

The thing of course is that of all the ships Tac cruisers are generally the easiest to play (circle around, BFAW, power and survivability not an issue at all), so people will flock to them more than to other ones to begin with. Pure Sci ships or agile escorts/bops/warbirds have their own style, but with Tac v Sci cruisers, tac abilities rule. Most common reason to go Sci is probably the Grav Well, but since GW ain't what it used to be... there's not much money in it.

Actually the turn rate on the Advanced Research is much faster than the Galaxy, so there's that too...meaning it feels more like a science vessel than a "slower" cruiser. While reading this thread I looked up the Advanced Research. It actually looks like it would make a pretty nice torp/exotic damage boat...

never saw discovery, but it's nice they gave props to Scott Crossfield, one of the greatest test pilots in the 50s and 60s.
