Hello.
Before i knew about loadouts, i was getting separate gear for all my ships, so i would have them all battle ready and could easily switch between them.
After i learned about loadouts and started using them, i needed just one piece or set of every kind of equipment i wanted to use on my ships.
When switching ships at dock or in space, all the equipment was loaded automatically from wherever it was stored, be it in bank, invetory or other starships.
That worked fine until about few weeks ago.
Now, when i switch ships, the equipment stays greyed out and there is a note "The item is equipped on a different ship".
Is this how it is supposed to be or is it some bug ?

Join the club. I have filed multiple tickets on loadouts of 1 ship. ONE SHIP! I haven't even gone to another build on that ship, because they require me to swap the loadout, which I've done over a dozen times. I'm not a QA person, I'm a player. If I need to be a QA person, I should get paid for it. Fix it!
Sometimes I'll have to unequip all the equipment from my ship before a loadout will work.
Sometimes when I switch loadouts the removed equipment will be fitted to an inactive ship. Entirely at random.

Was it supposed to work like some extra storage space independet from inventory ?
Or was it just for saving a preset configurations, to quickly swap between ?
Would be nice to hear it from someone competent, who actually knows what was the plan or idea of how it should work ...
Anyone like that around here ???
You need inventory space in order to swap elements from one configuration to another and was made to relieve the stress of actually dragging and dropping each item into a ship's Loadout.
Swapping from Loadout A to Loadout B will put Loadout A's items into inventory, and take Loadout B's items from inventory into your ship. That's how it's supposed to work. Currently, like was said above, it doesn't always do that.
One example given was putting items into inactive ships, which is odd. In other examples, it simply does't allow you to swap back and forth between Loadouts; it gets locked out. There is a lockout period, but I think it's only for 10 mins, not days. Maybe it's fixed now, but I'm not about to chance it anymore and have to revert back to dragging and dropping, or worse, having to go back to a hub in order to retrieve items that I need to drag and drop.
I tried that and it didn't work. Maybe it works now, but I'm still going to stay cautious until I see something in the patch notes, or hear from a Dev.
After reading through the thread a little better I may have misunderstood...If you're talking about simply switching ships, then looking for the equipment that should be on the new ship, it will show "greyed out" but they are there after switching maps.
If you are talking about the actual loadout feature, where you can save different loadouts to switch between on the same ship, I've never used that feature much. I found it more annoying than useful.
EDIT: What the OP is describing is not about the loadout feature, it is about the new bug where the equipment doesn't appear to pull over to the new ship. For what it's worth...

Thanks for the insightful info. Just to sum it up.
The loadouts are just for quick change of equipment on ships, there is actually no extra storage.
They should be able to change equipment from inventory and from other ships, but beacause of some new bug that came with upgrades few weeks ago, it does not work correctly if the stuff is equipped on another ship.
And there is no fix in sight, probably starships get real before that happens.
Did i get it right ?
