item bound but not equipped

tanikaze#2515 tanikaze Member Posts: 9 Arc User
Thank you for taking the time to read this. My situation is this: I have phasers and other ship components in my inventory that are not equipped on any ship. At the exchange, I am unable to sell them. When hovering over the item within the inventory panel, the pop up window says they are bound to account or character. I do not understand how they are bound. More importantly I do not understand how to un-bound them so I may sell them, which will free up valuable inventory space. Can someone please help?

Some items, usually specials, are bind on pickup. So they're only yours the instant they're in you inventory. Once bound to character you have to either store it, use it, or vendor it. At least on bound to account you can use the account bank to swap to another character.

You can't unbind a bound item, period. Whether it was bind on pickup, bind on equip etc, it doesn't matter, if it's bound, it's bound and there is no changing that.

With that said, unless you put the item in protected mode, they can be sold to any vendor, or just get rid of them in the replicator. There are a few items in the game that you can't sell as they don't show up in the list when selling stuff, if you definitely don't want those, just fight-click and discard.
    LTS and loving it.

Exactly what items are you talking about?

Be aware that there are items which are bind on pick up which means as soon as you accept the item it is bound to your character or your account. An example would be mission story rewards where unique items are bound to characters on pick up.

Bound items can never be unbounded.

In their infinite wisdom, the powers that be decided we needed to get mission rewards that are char bind on acquire. So yeah. You're hooped.

Unique story mission rewards are bound to character because the character needs to complete the story missions in order to get it. If you don't play the story mission, then you don't the reward. It's a pretty simple concept.

The items I am referring to are simple things like phasers and torpedos. I would expect some rare or mission essential items to have a death grip on my inventory slots but certainly not those types of things.

Almost every other MMO I've ever played functioned the same exact way.

Yeah, SOP for MMOs. Now I can understand it in worlds with magic, items binding to a user; but makes no sense in a technology one. And even less sense that some of our doffs are bound to our captains till they die! :'(

I finally discarded the items. They were Common Mk IV at best so not worth much anyway. Thanks for the help!
