    Mars (MU red)

Smith and Naynta walked with Admiral Barclay briefing her on the Tzenkethi updates. In the conference room, all officers took their seats as Papela appeared on the screen. “We have a crisis on our hands, we have refugees fleeing Tzenkethi aggression and they stuck between the borders with their supplies running out. If we aid them, the Tzenkethi will accuse us of aiding their enemies but if we do nothing, people will start dying” said Smith. “How many refugee ships?” asked Papela. “At least 250, most of them are old and at the point of falling apart” answered Barclay. “If any refugee ships cross our border, they will be detained and dealt with by the empire after their crews and passengers have been screened” replied Papela.

“What about the Tzenkethi?” asked Naynta. “If any Tzenkethi come over the border without permission, they will be told We are dealing with a problem that you have caused us. Acting in a hostile manner towards us will only aggravate that problem” answered Papela. “The last thing we need is a war, especially after the Dominion and Borg conflicts. Speaking to their government may be an option, we could be dealing with the whole species being on the path of violence or rogue elements, the Tzenkethi will only do something if there is a reason” replied Smith. “The planets they have wiped out with protomatter weapons have crystals on them, They're trying to eliminate them somehow” said Naynta. “Do we have any of these crystals in the empire?” asked Barclay. “No we don't, the only one we had hatched my crew spent a month clearing out the infestation. They're aggressive little critters” answered Naynta.

“Those crystals are an egg?” asked Smith. “The Tzenkethi must be trying to wipe these bugs out” answered Naynta. “Using protomatter is a bit extreme, surely there are more safer options” asked Barclay. “For the Tzenkethi, it's the only way to be sure” answered Naynta. “The problem is innocents are caught in the middle, millions have been wiped away by the Tzenkethi's tactics” replied Smith. “Each planet wiped out creates a ripple effect, the more planets wiped out means more refugees coming to our borders looking for safety” said Barclay. “Something like this happened on Terra in the 4th Century CE” replied Smith. “Explain General” asked Papela. “An ancient Terran people called the Goths were forced to flee into the Roman Empire after their lands and homes were brutally wiped out by a people called the Huns, it caused instability within the Roman Empire leading to the collapse of the western half in the 5th Century CE. The Romans treated the Goths like animals and it led to an open war, we cannot make those mistakes” answered Smith.

“General, I agree. We need to start looking at creating areas to look after them, once we have safe zones deep within our borders set up, then we can start looking at ways of letting them in small numbers at first as not to overload our medical and humanitarian services” replied Papela. “People are dying, they're dying terrified and without hope. People may try and take advantage, slavers especially” answered Smith. “That is a concern” replied Papela. “So far, our forces have be told do not fire unless fired on first. All border forces have been put on a defensive posture” said Barclay. “I've been given command of the border fleets, Battle Group Omega has also contributed ships for our border forces” added Naynta. “We'll need hospital ships for treating any injured refugees” suggested Smith. “You've got them, I've just sent the order attaching them to Admiral Lot's forces” answered Barclay. “Watch the border, detain any refugees illegally crossing the border. Treat them with kindness, I'll be informing the empress once she's recovering” ordered Papela. “Ma'am” chorused Smith, Nanyta and Barclay. “You all know your jobs, get to it, Regent out” said Papela then the screen went blank.

“Admiral Lot, good luck” said Barclay then she returned to the Enigma for the return trip to Terra. Naynta then beamed to the Athena and set course for the Tzenkethi border. Later that day, Smith was at home with Mereu. “I hate seeing innocents suffering like this” he sighed. “If you try and help them, it could lead to war but if you don't help them, they die. Dexter, it seems you have the weight of the world on your shoulders and it's beginning to show” said Mereu. “It is, Mereu thanks for that honesty” answered Smith. “You cannot save everyone not matter how hard you try, helping those who can be saved is often the right thing to do but as it is, you're stuck between a rock and a hard place” replied Mereu. “Yep, it's one of those observe and see what happens for the moment” answered Smith.

      Terra, 2424 (MU red)

Field Marshall Smith was at the palace for his briefing with the Empress, on his way to the Empress's office he was intercepted by the Heath twins. "Your royal highness" he said to both twins. "Tell us about your battles" said Ohsa. "Why?" asked Smith. "Because our history classes are boring" answered Prin. "What are you two up to?" asked Smith. "We just want to know about something exciting" answered Ohsa. "I'd rather not" replied Smith. "Spoilsport" answered Prin. "You two are persistent" replied Smith. "Yes" chorused both twins. "We could always order you to tell us" said Prin. "Fine, which one?" answered Smith. "The Borg" said Ohsa. "I'd rather not discuss the Borg thank you" replied Smith. "And why not?" asked Prin.

"Because if I told you two about the Borg, it would bring back bad memories" answered Smith. "Tell us anyway" said Ohsa. "Trust me, you two are not ready to learn about the Borg" replied Smith. "We're 12" chorused the twins. "Too young to learn about the Borg" answered Smith. "Why?" chorused the twins. "You would not understand" answered Smith. "Tell us" chorused the twins. "Not until you're older" answered Smith. "Come on tell us" chorused the twins. "Someone please shoot me" thought Smith holding his head. "Why's he twitching?" asked Ohsa. "It's funny" answered Prin. "How about the Dominion War instead?" asked Smith. "Battle of the Denorios" said Prin. "500 against 3000 sounds crazy" added Ohsa.

"Fine, but it will be done in a respectful way to those who never came back" answered Smith. "500 could not beat 3000" said Prin. "Your grand mother was the empress at the time and we got reports of Dominion reinforcements coming through, I was tasked with holding the line until help arrived. We did for nearly a day outnumbered 6-1, we went in with 500 ships of varied design and quality and only left the battlefield with 150. That's 350 ships and their crews who never saw the end of the war, those crew who fell never got the chance to have families and live in peace. There is not glory in war, only suffering. You two think about that before you pester military officer because for them, some things are best left in the past and asking them questions can often bring up bad memories. It's called a dose of reality" replied Smith. "We may have hit a nerve" said Prin. "We did" answered Ohsa. "Girls, stop pestering the poor man" said Heath. "Yes mother" chorused the twins.

"Do they do that to every officer who comes to talk business with you?" asked Smith. "They do, thank you for showing restraint around them" said Heath. "Ma'am" replied Smith.

"You dealt with my girls very well, most start to scream with insanity" said Heath. "I'm used to it, having three boys does that" answered Smith. "Word of advise, don't be too tough on them" replied Heath. "I'm not, they have a degree of freedom to be themselves but sometimes a bit a discipline now and again helps. Mereu is amazing with them" answered Smith smiling. "Now to business, what's the Tzenkethi neutral zone been like?" replied Heath reading the reports. "Their government have condemned the actions of those who want to start a war with us, rogue elements wiped out another two dozen planets in the last fortnight alone. Intelligence confirmed that a Tzenkethi civil war could blow up at anytime so all Imperial and allied forces have been put on alert along the border" answered Smith.

"My operatives also confirmed instability in the Tzenkethi people. Ever since the Empire stopped a war 12 years ago, the Tzenkethi have been on cold conflict with themselves, it could turn hot at any time" said General Trianna Bray. "What's a civil war?" asked Ohsa. "A civil war is a war fought between citizens of the same nations. They are brutal and often family fights family, the Empire has had many civil wars in it's past" answered Smith. "Family would never hurt family" said Prin. "Not always the case, the last civil war we had I fought my own sister after she had mom killed" replied Trianna. "I was at the Siege of Betazed running the Imperial blockades to get supplies down to those people trapped then rescued the Regent and her family just as Betazed fell to the Imperial fleet, I fought as part of the rebellion against Empress Marie" added Smith. Both Heath twins were silent afterwards taking that in. "Back to business, most we can do with the Tzenkethi is stay neutral and prevent any fighting from spilling into our territory" said Smith.

"A wise course of action, Imperial lives and resources should not be wasted on something that is not our war" advised Trianna. "That sounds mean and selfish" said Prin. "It's called politics" replied Smith. "Still mean" replied Ohsa. "The way of the universe I'm afraid, some things are a constant" answered Smith.

Mars 12 years earlier (MU red)

General Smith was reading the reports from the frontier. Some refugees tried to run the border but were caught and detain before being relocated to reception centers within the empire. The military situation was tense with both the Imperial and Tzenkethi military arms facing each other over the border with the refugee ships caught in the middle. Admiral Naynta Lot sent the Regent's message to the Tzenkethi about crossing the border and waited, so far the Tzenkethi had not acted hostile. It was a Mexican stand off with both sides seeing who would fire first. Imperial forces held their fire as their captains kept fire discipline under the watchful eyes of Empress Heath's political officers.

Back at Mars three weeks later, an emergency of a different kind was taking place, Trianna had gone in labor. In the Prime universe, Trianna (prime) was in labor with her husband whimpering as he got an earful from an angry hormonal Trianna. In both the MU red reality and prime reality, it was over in 18 hours with both Triannas resting and bonding with their sons.

          Vanguard Station ( Prime Universe)

A group of twenty Basalisks had forced with way into the stations R&D labs special weapons division. They had stunned any one who resisted- the High protectors orders were that anyone involved in the unsanctioned project be apprehended. No trace of this research could leave the station. It was to dangerous.
Upon reaching the laboratory they sought they were met with weapons fire from a small group- clearly untrained form combat as most didn't take cover. They went down without any losses to the assault team. Quickly taking the lab, and securing the computers the Romulan scientist Talpheon was apprehended.

A half hour later the man was sitting in a holding cell as High Protector Altithia Soreth fumed on the other side of a force field. "I forbade this project doctor. It is unethical, dangerous, and far to unpredictable to use. Yet you have proceeded with the research despite our laws, and my express command... I should have you executed but the level of progress you've made is concerning."

Talpheon didn't respond only continuing the staring contest with his head of state. "You've adapted Borg nano-probes to create what humans call a 'zombie plague' that could activate with a subspace command- fact. You're initial proposal to me was to use this as a deterrent and bargaining chip through the use of a kill switch against the Terran Empire should they invade at a later time- fact. I ordered you to end all work on this project and you disobeyed my direct order- fact."

"A discrete infection of a single planet could spread and give us the edge we need to force-" Talpheon began defending himself.
"Enough sir, I've searched the Section 31 agents quarters and the one called 'Blue' provided you with what you needed to continue. I understand your and their concerns but acting before we have the reason to especially with a weapon like you have proposed is unacceptable and if discovered or miscalculated could cause exponential amounts of damage.... I need to assign the judge for your trial, you will be permitted a representative for your defense if you wish."

Emma had prepared her gear accordingly for this mission. The Tzenkethi homeworld wasn't a typical target nor the method of assassination. But she was pleased to have left no trace, as the enemy leader had died of a "sudden heart attack".

"Get us back to Imperial space, I don't want to be here when the body is found..." Shade said taking her command chair as the escort began working its way through the detection grid.

"Ma'am permission to speak freely?" Plaueg asked from the tactical station.

          "Go ahead."
"Should we be concerned about uh job security? The Empress' past might make our occupation 'less desirable' perhaps to the current ruler."
Shade was silent for a moment. "I've been wondering that myself. Hopefully the Empress sees as more than weapons to be wielded- we have a function as the eyes and ears of throne... We'll have to see what the future holds... The Shadows exist to perform as the empire needs us, we don't need to be appreciated to perform our 'weeding' in secrecy. You all know we're Terras hidden weapons."

Emma knew that wasn't the response any of her crew had wanted to hear.

"Boss, you've got to read this" said Lwasana handing Smith the report. "The Tzenkethi leader is dead, cause of death sudden heart attack" noted Smith. "Tzenkethi ships are withdrawing from the border as their leader left no clear heirs" replied Lwasana. "Then our border forces have to change role, a succession crisis among the Tzenkethi could lead to a civil war" answered Smith. "We'll wait and see, I'll make sure the Regent gets this report" replied Lwasana. "Thanks Lwasana" answered Smith. "How's Ice doing?" asked Lwasana. "I'm going to visit her soon, Isoisa has been with her throughout labor and is still there" answered Smith. "I'll join you shortly once I've sent the report" replied Lwasana before she left to send the report.

In the hospital 20 minutes later, the entire crew visited Trianna (red). "Everyone, meet Ablim Bray" said Trianna. "Adorable" chorused the female officers. "He'll be like his father" said Smith. "And intelligent like his mother" added Isoisa. "18 hours of absolute pain" said Trianna (red). "The language was rather unladylike" added Isoisa. "It's all worth it" said Trianna (red). "We got him something" said Smith passing a box over to Isoisa. She opened it to find a stuffed bear wearing an Imperial uniform. "Thank you, Ablim will treasure that" said Trianna. "Ice, we also smuggled in a box of these for you" said Petrofski passing Trianna a box. "Lemon cakes, I'm supposed to be on a strict diet until I'm fully recovered, hopefully Mereu won't notice" replied Trianna (red). "I heard that but I'll allow them" said Mereu. "Thanks Mereu" said Trianna (red). "You're welcome" replied Mereu. "The house is ready on base, we all redecorated it and and made it child proof" said Smith. "Thank you, Bareil looks puzzled" replied Trianna (red). "Trianna, may I say congratulations" asked Bareil. "Thank you, that means a lot Bareil" replied Trianna (red)

          Earth (Prime)

At the Valdez farm, Trianna (prime) was still in bed recovering. "That was the worst pain I've ever felt" said Trianna (prime). "You should have seen the state of Ablim" said Valdez. "How bad?" asked Trianna (prime). "He was whimpering" answered Valdez. "Very unladylike" said Ablim. "I still cannot believe you fainted" replied Trianna (prime). "I'm still in shock" answered Ablim. "Dad, meet your grandson" said Trianna (prime) after Valdez sat down. Valdez then held his grandson, "Little one, all that pain was worth it" he said as he handed Ablim Jnr back to his mother. "He was, I may need some extra help from now on" replied Trianna (prime).

Trianna (yellow) and Isosia (prime) brought in Teanna Jane to meet her little brother. "Sis, congratulations. We know you love lemon cakes so we brought you some" said Trianna (yellow). "What the doctors don't know about can't harm them" answered Trianna (prime). "Our little secret?" asked Isoisa (prime). "Very much so" answered Trianna (prime). "I got something for Ablim Jnr, open it" said Valdez passing Trianna a box. She opened it after passing Ablim Jnr to his father to find a stuffed bear in a Starfleet uniform, "That's going in his nursery, he's going to treasure that, thank you dad" said Trianna (prime). "Call it a welcome to the family" replied Valdez before he took Teanna Jane to feed her. "We've cleaned up for you, you need to take it easy until you recover" said Trianna (yellow). "Visiting time over, I need to run some scans" said Naynta (prime). "We'll visit later" said Trianna (yellow).

General Smith opened his office door only to find Shade inside. "Guards, leave us" ordered Smith. His guards left the office and the door closed. "Corsair, quite the operation you have here" said Shade. "We're tasked with dealing with threats to the empire externally and within. I won't ask how you got in here" replied Smith. "I heard about the near total destruction of the Borg, well executed" answered Shade reading the logs. "Not all of them were wiped out, some 15,000 drones were freed from the collective, one of them has decided to stay with the empire, the others have left the galaxy" replied Smith. "Your cold war with the Tzenkethi, it was about to tun hot" answered Shade passing Smith a PADD.

"Whoa, is this a new weapon?" asked Smith. "The fact you did not use force forced the hand of Tzenkethi leadership, they were about to attack and test their protomatter torpedoes on us" answered Shade. "They were using innocent people as shields to stop us from firing on them if they decided to force the issue. Has the Empress been informed?" asked Smith. "She has and she's not happy about the convenience of the sudden death of the Tzenkethi leader" replied Shade. "Heart attack I know" answered Smith. "A heart attack that prevented an invasion" replied Shade. "And may have sparked a civil war within the Tzenkethi, so far it's cold but it could turn hot" answered Smith. "One death that may save billions of Imperial citizens" replied Shade. "We'll see" answered Smith.

"The Empress may be in danger" said Shade. "Another attempted assassination?" asked Smith. "While you were busy dealing with the Borg, an Imperial Captain by the name of Sito Thay broke her counterpart out of the other empire's imperial palace prison" answered Shade. "So we have a traitor to deal with, does the Empress know?" asked Smith. "She does" answered Shade. "She'll be ruthless to those who threaten her and her family" replied Smith. "We all know the fate of Leeta" answered Shade. "Hell hath no fury like an angry Empress" replied Smith. "Indeed, we're on standby in case we are needed. Where's Ghost?" asked Shade. "At home recovering, she was in labor for 18 hours" answered Smith. "I may have to make a visit" replied Shade. "I've got some spare Battle Group Omega uniforms, find one that fits you so you blend in first" answered Smith. "Thank you Corsair, I may need somewhere remote as well" replied Shade. "We found an old base here on Mars hundreds of Kilometers from the nearest cities, take that place over, it even has a retractable landing pad for extra secrecy" answered Smith passing Shade the co-ordinates. "Thank you Corsair" replied Shade. "That's the only data we have, we would not want any one else finding it" answered Smith.

                Mars (Mu red)

Smith went with Shade to visit the Brays. While Trianna (red) and Shade were talking, Smith received a message from one of his patrol groups. Kazon ships had come through a transwarp aperture, returning to his office Smith put the captain through. "General, there are 50 ships here and they're at the border" reported Captain Ridgewell. "They here to talk or cause trouble?" asked Smith. "Their leader is demanding that we hand over all our technology or he will destroy us" answered Ridgewell. "Put him through to here, let's her what he's got to say" ordered Smith. "General" answered Ridgewell. A Kazon face appeared on the screen. "Who are you and why are you threatening us?" asked Smith. "First Maje Culluh of the Kazon-Nistrim, hand over all your technology or be destroyed" answered the Kazon leader.

"I'm General Dexter Smith, I'm not authorized to share technology unless my Empress says so" answered Smith. "Your empire must be weak to be ruled by a woman, hand over all your technology or I will destroy your ship in front of me" demanded Culluh. "You do that and you'll face the Imperial fleet, they do not take kindly to this empire being threatened. Anything else?" asked Smith sarcastically. "You cannot be serious" replied Culluh. "Sometimes but with you, not so much but I'm deadly serious if you attack any of our ships. The moment you fire on any Imperial ship is the moment you've made a poor error of judgement" answered Smith. Smith meanwhile had been recording all this and sending it to the Empress. "First Maje, turn your ships around and leave because the moment you cross that border, you'll face the might of the Imperial fleet so what's it going to be?" asked Smith.

Culluh cut the channel. "Deploy three squadrons to that sector, do not fire unless fired on first" ordered Smith. Three Imperial squadrons left Mars and joined up with Captain Ridgewell at the border less than 30 minutes later via quantum slipstream. "General, First Maje Culluh is calling again. Our show of force may have made an impression" reported Captain Ridgewell. "OK, put him through" ordered Smith. "General, you do not scare me, I am Nistrim and we do not scare" said Culluh. "You may be used to bullying everyone else but don't threaten an empire that has the means to defend itself. Why don't you ask the Ogla what happened to the last Kazon ship that fired on an Imperial ship?" answered Smith. "Hand over all your technology" demanded Culluh. "The last Kazon ship that fired on an Imperial ship had a very bad day" replied Smith. "You're lying" answered Culluh. "No I'm not, the Ogla opened fire on one of my ships, their carrier was destroyed with little to no effort by my ships, if you don't believe me here's the visual logs" replied Smith. "They're fakes meant to make the Kazon look weak" answered Culluh.

"Back off and leave, my captains have orders to make you leave if they have to but we hope it won't come to that" replied Smith. "We'll stay where we are until we get what we came for, hand over all technology or the Nistrim see that as an act of war" answered Culluh. "Cut channel" ordered Smith. Smith sent all this to the Empress and deployed another two squadrons to reinforce Ridgewell. Back at the Bray household, Trianna (red) asked Shade if she could be godmother to her son, Shade smiled.

Captain Ridgewell received her orders, her first shot knocked out the weapons on the Nistrim flagship and her second the engines. "General, their leader wishes to discuss terms" said Ridgewell to Smith via subspace. "Culluh, you seem to be no longer in command of the situation" said Smith sarcastically. "Being beaten by a woman, humiliation" answered Culluh. "Get the violins out, when the other sects find out well your position is a bit precarious and they will attack you, the best part is we can sit sit back and watch you get a good pasting and you would be dead and we would be glad. You are not worth the Empress's time and resources so take the hint and disappear the way you came before she changes her mind and make sure the rest of the sects get the message. Do not cross the Terran Empire" replied Smith.

"All ships, retreat" ordered Culluh before he ended transmission. "Captain Ridgewell, well done. Omega units return to base" ordered Smith. Smith then sent his report to the Empress.

                    Mars (MU red)

General Smith was in the Bray's front room reviewing the latest security reports along with Trianna (red). "Opponents to the Empress's rule on Luna, they're demanding the Empress step down peacefully or they'll take more militant action to force her out" said Trianna (red). "The empress has done a wonderful job so far, we're at peace which is something rare and the empire is growing culturally" answered Smith. "Accept the hardliners believe war is our culture and peace is for the weak" replied Trianna (red). "Do we have a contingency plan in place if these dissenters decide to use violence?" asked Smith. "I took the liberty of deploying armed troops to Luna, they should be reporting in now" answered Trianna (red). "General, Colonel. We have a situation, three hours ago armed militant took the Luna administration building. They're holding hostages and have threatened to kill one every half hour unless the empress stands down after their deadline of 48 hours" reported Lt Tyler.

"You got the building contained?" asked Smith. "Sir, we've got a two block perimeter all around and we've disabled all transporters out of the building" reported Tyler. "Lt, when does their deadline end?" asked Trianna (red). "In 45 hours ma'am" answered Tyler. "Lt, keep the situation contained. Make sure any citizens who should not be in the area are moved outside your perimeter" ordered Smith. "Sir, Tyler out" answered Tyler. "You got a secure com terminal I could borrow?" asked Smith to Trianna (red). "Over there boss" answered Trianna (red) pointing to her office. "Thanks" answered Smith. Smith put a call through to the empress sending her the reports of a hostage crisis on Luna along with the militant's demands and threats.

                      Luna (MU red)

General Smith arrived to take over operations, the empress was also patched in listening. "General ask them this question," Layress replied, "'If I do not step down, you will kill the hostages, correct?' ' What will you do when you run out of hostages?' There will be nothing to stop our forces from storming the building and taking you alive. Yes alive. For I will not kill you. Oh no. I have something special planned for you. There is a race in the far reaches of the Empire called the Medusans. They are quite the pleasant people, however the mere sight of them drives all other races insane. So unless you want to spend the rest of your life screaming at things only you can see, surrender now. And don't think you can escape by killing yourself. I will send someone back in time to get you before you kill yourself.
Come to me with an open mind, not a closed fist and I am more than willing to talk with you. So do the smart thing and come out. No one has been hurt yet. It can stop now."

"Ma'am" answered Smith. Smith and a small team stepped forward towards the building and asked to speak to the militants inside. "Their leader wishes to speak to you" said Lt Tyler. "Good put them through" ordered Smith. Meanwhile Shade and an extraction team armed with carbines loaded with sedative rounds were getting into position ready to move on Smith's order. "My name is General Smith, this is from the empress, If I do not step down, you will kill the hostages, correct?' ' What will you do when you run out of hostages?' There will be nothing to stop our forces from storming the building and taking you alive. Yes alive. For I will not kill you. Oh no. I have something special planned for you. "We will not negotiate with with a weak fool" shouted the gang's leader. "Dampening field now, lets make sure they cannot use their weapons" ordered Smith. "Activated sir" answered Tyler. "Good, put me through" replied Smith. "Sir" answered Tyler. "As you may have noticed, your weapons are useless. Two ways, the easy way where you walk out with your hands on your head or the hard way where my troops remove you alive and drooling" said Smith. "No answer yet" reported Tyler. "Wait, let's not be too hasty, Extraction, you ready to move in?" said Smith. "On your order" answered Shade. "Message from the empress sir" reported Tyler. "Put her through" ordered Smith.

                        Luna (MU red)

General Smith changed tactics, the empress suggested via subspace link that an olive branch would be offered. Smith sent the message, "Anyone who marches out with their hands on their head will receive a lesser sentence, what's worth more, your pride or your sanity?" It had the effect as the doors opened and all 24 hostages walked out along with 10 of the gang. The gang members who surrendered were cuffed and detained while the last five in the building refused to surrender. The released hostages were processed and sent to medical personnel and counselors for treatment. "The olive branch worked, all hostages accounted for and alive. 10 of the gang have surrendered but their leaders will not" reported Smith.

"What's your recommendation?" asked Heath. "Cut power to their food and water replicators, make them uncomfortable" answered Smith. "Go for it" ordered Heath. "Tyler, cut power to their replicators" ordered Smith. "Done" replied Tyler. "Put me through" ordered Smith. "You're through sir" answered Tyler. "To those die hards, we have cut power to all the replicators, eventually you'll get thirsty and hungry. Think about what you're doing here, is this worth it?" asked Smith. "No surrender" yelled the gang holdouts as they threw a firework out of the window at Smith. "Extraction teams move in and take them alive" ordered Smith. Shade and her team swung into action and covertly entered the building and knocked out the holdouts before throwing them out of the door then disappearing. "Nicely done" said Smith. Shade just smirked and left with her team covertly.

"The empress wants to speak to you five" said Smith to the die hards after waking them up.

                          Terra (MU red)

At the Imperial Palace in the detention block, the five die hards were sat down as Heath's face appeared onscreen. "You five mistook peace as a weakness, your hubris and actions have warranted a little lesson on the horrors of war. Trianna (red) escorted by Bareil walked in as Trianna (Prime) beamed in by transdimentional transporter as a guest of Heath's for her lesson. "Trianna, I'm sorry if I've pulled you away from your duties" said Trianna (red). "My family can survive without me for an hour so lets make this quick because it's Ablim Jnr's feeding time soon"replied Trianna (prime). "Mrs Zolat, glad you could join us" said Heath. "Empress, have we met?" asked Trianna (prime). "In a sense, I once asked you to design a secure system even you could not beat" answered Heath. "I believe you and I've kept my family name" replied Trianna (prime).

"My mistake Mrs Valdez" answered Heath. "Let's get this done" replied Trianna (prime). "The recent hostage crisis, you five who are cuffed and shackled are going to listen to what this young woman has to say" said Heath. "You five think war is a good thing, an attitude that is distasteful. Time for some home truths, you may notice I have no right leg and the fact I'm wheelchair bound. That was caused in combat, the explosion that took my leg also fused part of my spine putting me in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. The physical wounds are as bad as the emotional wounds, I was forced to watch my mother, first spouse and crew mates getting murdered by your military. I still wake up at night screaming nearly a year after it happened" said Trianna (prime). "Weak cripple" muttered one of the prisoners, Trianna (red) caught on and walked up calmly and told him in rather unladylike language to show her counterpart some respect, "Show my counterpart some respect, you wouldn't like me angry." The prisoner backed down.

"Mrs Valdez, what daily life for you like?" asked Heath. "I require a full time carer so I can live day to day and with support from my family, I'm raising a foster daughter and a son. Life's not easy since the injuries" answered Trianna (prime). "Col Bray, you've made sacrifices, explain to the prisoners how bad it's been for you" said Heath. "I lost my entire family to wars, my son will grow not seeing his father, his father was killed in action at the Battle of Sol during the Dominion War. Do you think war is good when the next generation loses parents, siblings and friends. Now you all think we're weak and ready to dismiss what we've said so I called on an old friend to help, Solat can you please come in?" said Trianna (red). "Col Bray, I brought two of my Vulcan officers as the empress requested. Time for part two of the lesson" answered Solat. Solat did the triple melds with both Triannas and the prisoners, afterwards the prisoners broke down. "Now the Empress has promised lighter sentences if you all just admit your actions were wrong live on INN" said Trianna (red).

Trianna (prime) was beamed back to her home via transdimentional transporter after a thank you from Heath and arrived safely resuming her parental duties. "Solat, thanks for that, I may owe you at some point for that" said Trianna (red) before she returned to Mars, she arrived two hours later and was back on her paternal duties. Four of the prisoners confessed live on INN but T'Loak was stubborn so Heath put a call through to the Medusan leader. Back at Mars, all Omega tactical officers were starting their training on stunning small targets from orbit.

It was a day that would go down in history, but for very different reasons.

                            Earth orbit
                            (Prime)

"Oh my God! Lazy, you look beautiful!"
                            "Thanks Augie."
"My brother is going to be so upset."
                            "He'll live."
The two stood in front the mirror making last minute adjustments to Heath's wedding dress.
"Thanks again for making me your maid of honor Lazy."
"I'm still not sure what it is. But it seemed important to the ceremony, so I wanted you to be it."
"Your gonna make me cry and ruin my make up."
                            They hugged each other.
"Prophets, how many years has it been since the academy?"
                            "Too many."
                            "All those years."
                            "All those bars."
                            "All those bar fights."
"They should know not to mess with a girl with an eye patch."
"You should learn not to take your clothes off when standing on the bar."
"Someone had to distract from your singing. *Sigh* I didn't get to give you a proper bachelorette party."
"Thank the Prophets for that. I remember the last one we went to."
                            "I don't."
"I'm not surprised. You drank half the stock of the bar then fell asleep naked on top of it."
"How come I don't have any stories like that about you?"
"Because I'm the one who always dragged you back home."
"I should go back in time and tell myself to let you drink that green stuff we found on Risa first. Let you be the one climbing trees singing. I could use some good dirt on the first lady of the Federation."
                            "It still doesn't seem real."
                            "Your in a wedding dress..."
                            "That I can't walk in."
"About to board a shuttle to fly to ESD and marry the Federation President elect. It doesn't get any more real than this."
                            "I wanna throw up."
"You'll ruin the dress. Now come on. Grab you flowers. Your bridesmaids are waiting."
"Slow down. Stupid dress is so tight I can't walk that fast."
"Don't complain to me. This corset is crushing my girls. Why did you have it made that way?"
"Like many things I've endured over the past year it wasn't my idea."
                            "Yes Admiral Implants."
                            "Augie..."
"Sorry. Couldn't help it. Oh there they are. You know, for being the most mentally disturbed crew in the fleet, you lot do clean up nicely."
The entered the shuttle bay and found rest of the Los Lobos bridge crew standing waiting for them by the shuttle. They were all dressed in their colorful dresses.
"You girls look great," Heath told them.
"You look beautiful ma'am," Truzena replied. "But whoever invented corsets needs to be executed. I can't breathe in this thing."
"This thing is killing my chest," Naynta complained.
"The problem with those Betaziod curves?" Paris asked.
                            "At least I have curves."
"I really don't mind," R'shee commented. "They could have made it tighter."
"Only you would think that of this torture device," T'pranng observed.
"I can't reach all the flight controls in this," complained Aunlel.
"Can we please go, I'm starting to lose the feeling in my legs," whined Lorrie.
Siobhan was just trying to breathe.
"I do appreciate you all for doing this," Heath said. "And trust me, my husband to be will pay for these dresses. Now, let's get this over with."
It was here they encountered the first problem of the day, because of their dresses none of them could walk up the shuttle ramp. One of the ground crew had to go inside and beam them on board before they could depart.

                            USS Constellation

"How do I look?" Ford asked
"Like a man walking to his execution."
                            "Thank you D`Jetta."
"I'm still not sure why you picked me to be your 'best man'. If you are making a statement about my femininity, I shall harm you severely, sir."
"The best man is supposed to be your best friend. The one you want at side at any time. That D`Jetta, is you."
"Thank you sir. But why am I in a suit and not a dress like the others?"
"If I tried to get you in the same dress as the others, I'd be in sickbay or the morgue now."
                            She arched an eyebrow.
                            "What did you do sir?"
"Nothing important. Call a final fling before settling down."
"She's going to hurt you for this isn't she?"
                            "Most likely."
"Good. She'll do find keeping you in line when I can't."
                            "Your concern is touching."
"I try. Shall we go? It is almost time."
"Lead the condemned man to the gallows."
"Deadman walking," she announced as they entered the shuttle bay. The rest of the Constellation's bridge crew already on board waiting for them.

                            Earth Space Dock

Club 47 had been transformed into a wedding platform for the occasion. It had been thought fitting since it where the two first met. The alter stood at where the DJ normally was. Rows of chairs, already occupied, filled up most of the space. The carpet they laid down ran from the club to shuttle bay around the rim. People were lined up here along the path to catch a glimpse of the wedding party.
Outside, the Constellation and Los Lobos moved into position outside the window, giving the crews a view of the proceedings.

The first shuttle entered the bay and landed on it's designated pad. The landing ramp lower and the groom and his party disembarked. Music began playing as they made thier way along the path. Ford waved to the crowds as they walked, stopping to shake hands with some of the children along the way. Cameras followed them inside as they took their positions by the alter.
                            "Nervous, sir?"
"I've fought Borg cubes and not been this nervous."
"Just imagine tonight when you two are alone."
                            "That, could be embarrassing."
"True, but you wouldn't be nervous."

The second shuttle entered the dock and came in to land. Aunlel would later claim that her restrictive dress was to blame for her overshooting the landing pad they were supposed to land on and landing on the one next to it.
"Sorry ma'am," she apologized. "I couldn't react to hit the thrusters in time. Stupid dress."
"It's alright," Heath said. "We can use the shuttle's transporter to beam on to the platform. Gather round Everybody."
Paris activated the transporter and the bridal party appeared out side the shuttle.
"Paris," Heath sighed. " I did mean the platform we were supposed to land on."
"I'm sorry ma'am. I preset it to get us out quickly when we arrived."
"So another twenty meters we have to walk in these dresses. Thanks girls," Truzena sighed.
"Come on," Heath said slowly walking away. "Let's get this over with."
As they left the platform they were unaware that the platform they landed on had just been cleaned. The platform was not completely dry as they stood and walked across it. The bridesmaids were unaware that the bottoms of their shoes had slowly started to dissolve.

As they approached the pad they should have landed at, attendants came rushing forward handing the bridesmaids their flower bouquets and organizing them in their procession order. One middle-aged Bajoran walked around the crowd to the bride.
                            He smiled at her.
                            "You look beautiful."
                            "Thanks Dad."
"Do I really have to give you away to that... what's that human term... playboy?"
"He's changed. Besides he knows I'll break him in half if he hasn't."
"That's my girl. Now these lovely ladies can't be those Pah wraith inspired nightmares you've been going on about."
"Don't let the pretty clothes fool you."
"I'll take your word for it. So are you ready for this?"
                            "No."
"Look on the bright side. After this we pack up and slipstream out to Bajor and do the whole thing again tomorrow."
                            "You are not helping Augie."
"I know. It's what I'm here for. Alright girls let's go get the thirty five year old virgin married."
                            "I HATE YOU AUGUSTINE MCBROCKEN!"
"You do know that the reporters out there probably heard that?"
Music started up drowning out any reply.
They began walking down the carpet out of the shuttle bay. They didn't notice the smoking footprints that they were leaving in the carpet. The attendants that were left behind did notice the footprints, but thought that they were part of the ceremony.
They made their way through the crowds with the people on both sides applauding both the procession and the added special effects. Unlike the first group, the bridesmaids kept their gaze straight ahead at all times, so they weren't aware of any problems until their melting shoes began sticking to the carpet. The procession became a slow lurching march as they had to pull themselves free with each step. They slowed then came to a stop just outside the entrance to the club when Paris tried to pull her self free and fell backwards into Aunlel. The rest of the bridesmaids went down like dominos. Heath's father moved her to the side to avoid the pile up.
Several minutes later and after being treated for multiple sprained ankles, the now barefoot bridesmaids limped into the club. They took their places at the front and everyone stood as the bride came in.
There was a general feeling of "At last" as she walked down the aisle. She stopped midway, wriggled around in place, then continued forward taking much smaller steps. She finally reached the altar. Her father lifted her veil, kissed her then went to his seat next to her mother.
                            "Something else wrong? Ford whispered.
"Bands holding up my stockings are caught on each other," she hissed. "I can't get them loose."
                            "Want me to help?"
"You are not sticking your hand up my dress here."
"Excuse me," the chaplain interrupted. "But the reporters can hear everything."
                            Heath sighed.
"Let's just get this over with."

On the base holosuite, Smith had started the training programme. The Empress had set the task of training the tactical officers of Omega in stunning a small target from orbit. “As the recent Luna crisis has proved, we need to be flexible. You are some of the best tactical officers in the empires so we will be looking stunning a small target from orbit” said Smith to the officers. “How small a target?” asked Lt Cmdr Braddock. “About your size” answered Smith. “Challenge accepted sir” replied Braddock. “If Federation tactical officers in the 23rd century could do this so can we” answered Smith.

“Moving or still?” asked Lt Palmer. “Both” answered Smith. “With respect sir, this has never been attempted before with the Imperial fleet. We'll make history” answered Palmer. “This will be a challenge, the Empress has set us a challenge so lets prove her wrong” replied Smith. “Yes sir!” chorused the officers. “That's the can do attitude the Empress is looking for, some of you are fresh from the academy so here there will be no draconian punishment. Creative thinking is promoted here, those cadets here on their last year do your best. Don't be afraid to ask for advise” said Smith. “Sir” chorused the cadets. “Time to start learning, ladies and gentlemen let's get to it” finished Smith.

For the next two weeks, Smith and the officers worked tirelessly and before long they were hitting a small rock column 20 metres wide from orbit. Their success spurred them on until they managed to hit a man sized target from orbit, both still and moving. “Set phasers to stun and target that illegal mine” ordered Smith. “Done” answered T'Pamne. Fire” ordered Smith. One phaser burst from orbit hit the illegal mine and stunned all it's occupants, Smith had the visual logs and data sent straight to the Empress. “Now each of you will now start to teach the rest of the tactical officers, every tactical officer must learn this, the Empress has declared it mandatory” said Smith. “Yes Sir!” chorused the tactical officers.

Callie came into the room waving a PADD around.
"Thay, have you seen this? Your Empress has gone crazy."
Thay took the PADD and read aloud.
"'All Imperial tactical officers are to be retrained. After which they should be able to hit a single person from orbit.' Yes, she and I talked about this before our wedding."
"She's insane. She's asking the impossible."
" Not really. According to her Federation officers have been able to do that since the 23rd century."
                              "That's... That's not possible."
"If you had scrolled down you would have seen she attached a recording of them doing it."
                              "Let me see."
They watched the video, Callie shaking her head.
"That kind of pin point accuracy," she started. "That's unheard off."
"Apparently, it's standard training in the Federation. It explains how they've been able to stalemate us in the past."
                              "..."
"What? Are you admitting that they are superior to us in their accuracy?"
"Never! If that weak Alliance can do that so can we. I will master this!"

It was a Sunday, Dexter Smith and his senior officers were off duty so in old tradition they all were gathered at the Brays. "Matching styles?" asked Trianna noting the Smiths' off duty clothing. "But different colors" answered Smith. "Black suits him" said Mereu. "We have to look respectable" said Smith sarcastically. "Of course" answered Mereu. "Three hours shopping, what terror it was" replied Smith. Ibarid, Tommen, Lenaris and Petrofski all smiled at that one. "Isoisa, Ice hows parenthood?" asked Mereu. "A challenge" answered Trianna which was followed by "but our little one is worth it" from Isoisa.

“This came through for you” said Smith passing Trianna a letter from the Empress. “My father's weapon collection and his library. I don't want the swords but you can have the library” answered Trianna. “What are you going to do with the sword collection?” asked Smith. “Sell them, all proceeds go to my father's victims” answered Trianna. “Fair enough” replied Smith, “The library came with a warning, Valdez's tactics were very predictable. He relied heavily on his opponents not paying attention and catching them off guard. That may work once, maybe twice. The third time, you and everyone under you will die, I will be studying these, I would also make these required reading for all officers so we don't make mistakes.”

“I hear you have a proposal for the Empress” said Trianna. “I do, a total outright ban on weapons of mass destruction. I've been writing up a detailed report on the matter, something I would rather discuss face to face with the Empress” answered Smith. “That won't be popular with the Empire's military commanders” replied Trianna. “Warfare should always be a last resort, having the forces to defend ourselves yes but having a military geared up for total war no. The military is here to protect the citizens and serve them, not the other way round” answered Smith. “Agreed, my father always saw war as necessary. An attitude that is distasteful” replied Trianna. “Tri, he's awake” said Isoisa, Trianna picked up Ablim Bray and immediately went somewhere private to feed him.

Meanwhile Ibarid, Tommen, Petrofski and Lenaris were teaching Bareil how to play pool. Jasmine, T'Pamne, Wilkinson and Leclerc were were working on knitting a blanket for the latest addition to their extended family. Later the crew all sat round the dining room table for a communal roast dinner with T'Pamne on a vegetarian version.

After the wedding, Valdez congratulated Mr and Mrs Ford, “Congratulations to the both of you.” “Thank you Nathan” said Layress. “Mr Valdez, thank you” said Ford.

Battle Group Omega was being reorganized. Since the expansion of it's operations as a fast quick response force they had been expanded with another brigade of infantry. These were fresh out of the boot camp and inexperienced, all lined up to attention when General Smith took the podium. "My name is General Dexter Smith, I am the commanding officer here so pay attention. The officer to my right is Lt. Col Trianna Bray, she will be overseeing your advanced training. Me and the Col fought in the Dominion War together taking the fight to the enemy, she answers to me only" said Smith. Trianna then took the podium, "Here, high standards are to be met. Those of you who cannot cope will be weeded out and returned to your original units, only the best are accepted here. You are here not only to prove to yourselves that you can pass this but also to prove this to the Empress and your families."

"Yes Ma'am!!!" chorused the recruits. "Form up into your platoons, each of you will be commanded by one of my staff. They are my law and answerable to only me and the General" said Trianna. The troops organized into their platoons and marched to their training areas. Afterwards, Smith said to Trianna "I was speaking with the empress, I recommended that you receive promotion to full Colonel." "Wow, I don't know what to say boss" answered Trianna. "What about yes to promotion?" asked Smith. "Boss, thank you" answered Trianna giving Smith a handshake. "Let's assemble the crew then" said Smith. "My place" replied Trianna. At the Bray's, Smith promoted Trianna to full Colonel and the crew cheered. "You've earned it" said Smith. "Colonel Trianna Bray, nice ring to it" answered Trianna. "It does indeed" replied Smith.

                                    Terra (Mu red)

Trianna had been called to Terra to sort her father's lands and estates, after the land had been swept for any of her father's victims it had been legally transferred to Trianna. Since the Brigands had been given shore leave, they all helped inspect an old chateau. Immediately the Brays took ownership of the lands and the chateau and transferred their things to Terra. Their things arrived as they put Ablim to bed in his new nursery they had built next to the master bedroom. From now on, Trianna would work from her new home. Her father's wealth had been split, 50% of it was donated to building veteran's hospitals, war orphanages and schools. Since her father had imposed a feudal system on the local people, Trianna abolished it with immediate effect. All slaves owned by her father were freed with compensation being paid to them.

The rest of her father's wealth was put aside for her family's future. Trianna now decided what to do with the land, half of it was given to the locals as a thank you for their service. The rest she kept as a privacy buffer around her walled chateau. When Smith had finished having a look round, he was impressed, "very impressive, all this is yours" he said afterwards. "Hard to believe this would have been father's retirement home, once this place has been redecorated there will be no trace of him left" replied Trianna. "Have you seen the size of the master bedroom, it's huge" said Isoisa . "I know, that's the marital bedchambers" replied Trianna. "I'm used to a small apartment, this place is something else entirely" answered Isoisa. "You two enjoy, I've been called back to work"said Smith. "Have fun" chorused Trianna and Isoisa. "I will do" answered Smith as he and his officers beamed to the Denorios then went back to Mars. The Brays began settling in at their Chateau.

Trianna then sent the Empress a thank you for letting her inherit her father's land and estate along with a list of the local reforms she had made.

I.S.S. Denorios, Martian orbit (MU red)

General Smith was in his office speaking with the Empress via subspace, "General, your background bothers me" said Heath. "Ma'am?" asked Smith. "The smuggling charges, two counts of hauling stolen contraband, four counts of bank robbery and ten counts of piracy" answered Heath. "Me and my crew had rules, we never harmed innocents and we only stole from those who would not help the people, you could say a modern day Robin Hood" replied Smith. "Robin Hood?" asked Heath. "A legend where I'm from, an outlaw who stole from the rich to give to the poor" answered Smith. "The Imperial authorities didn't see it that way" replied Heath. "Let's just say that we were not fans of the old regime, robbing them was our form of resistance. We never used violence either, we were professional about it" answered Smith.

"What about the destruction of an Imperial Frigate?" asked Heath. "We disabled them and gave the crew 10 minutes to evacuate, they couldn't call for help but they had a chance of survival by evacuating their ship. Crews should not pay the price for being on the wrong side at the wrong time" answered Smith. "The I.S.S. Corruna crew all made it back safely, it seems you put out a distress beacon before you left" replied Heath. "When help got to them, we were long gone" answered Smith. "Your war on organized crime has been very efficient, the European mafias and the Triads being taken down has sent a clear message" replied Heath. "We were honest criminals, using our illegally acquired skills so using them skills legitimately was the best way, we despise organized crime. Any opportunity to take down the head criminal families is always welcome, we consider it a civic duty" answered Smith. "Thank you General" replied Heath. "Ma'am, with respect, was this a judgement of character?" asked Smith. "In a sense" answered Heath. "I'm not going to argue" replied Smith.

"Good, recently some reports crossed my desk. This emerged" said Heath sending Smith the picture, Smith just took one look and barely containing his anger he asked "Where was this taken and when?" "Kinjun, Federation space just over a year ago" answered Heath. "Dad has some explaining to do, those men are his MACOs and and some of them I recognize" replied Smith. "Do you know where these men are?" asked Heath. "I do, permission to detain them and transfer them to your security forces?" replied Smith. "Permission granted, Empress out" answered Heath and the screen went blank. Smith then sent the list of names to his security who proceeded to detain 30 MACOs. They were then flown to Terra and handed over to the Empress's security service.

                                          "Thay..."
                                          "What?"
                                          "Calm down."
"How can I be calm? You're about to give birth. I didn't read what I was supposed to! I have no idea what I'm supposed to do!"
"I did take that in to account."
                                          "I... What?"
Layress cupped Thay's face in her hands.
"I deal with the emotional "eccentricity" of hundreds of my crew. You were just one more to anticipate and plan for. I've made all the necessary arrangements. I just need you there to hit the relaxation gong."
                                          "I'm sorry. I..."
"I know. The whole baby/parent thing freaks you out."
Thay put her hands over hers.
"I want this so much, but I'm afraid I can't handle it."
"I like said. We'll be terrified together. Now we've arrived at Bajor..."
"Why are we back at that neon cesspool?" "Because that's where the best midwives are, I checked. Now help me change and put my hair up before she arrives."

Naynta waited in transporter room one for the new arrival. Bajor births we're more a spiritual than medical experience, but she would be there to help just in case and of course to check the newborns to make sure they were fine.
She turned to the transporter operator.
                                          "How much longer?"
"Not much," chief Zulilia. "Just waiting for the... there's the signal. Energizing now... Oh that won't do. Erecting containment field around the platform."
                                          "What! What are you doing?"
The middle aged Bajor woman appeared on the platform. She tried to step down but hit the shield.
"Greetings. I am... Ouch.... what is going on?"
"Sorry, but you won't be assassinating anyone today. Especially not the Empress," Zulilia explained.
"What are you doing?" Naynta demanded.
"She's not from this universe, but the other."
                                          "What?"
"Don't be absurd," the person on the platform protested. "I am the midwife."
"No you're the other universe copy of the midwife from this universe. You took her place to try to sneak on board to kill the Empress at her most vunerable."
                                          "Ridiculous."
"Not really. You see when you're in my pattern buffer, I know everything thing about you. Every secret, every thought. And your plans are quite clear to me."
"The usurper and her progeny will..."
                                          "Toodles."
The transporter engaged and the figure disappeared mid-rant.
"What did you do with her?" Naynta asked.
"I put her 10km above the ocean. Let her think about her bad life choices as she falls."
"They will want to question her."
"Oh I'll catch her before she hits. I'll keep doing this to keep her occupied until the babies are born. Speaking of that, I got the location of where the real midwife is from her. Energizing... she's been drugged. You need to revive her."
"Medical team to transporter room one. You know that's really creepy when you do that."
                                          Zulilia smiled.
"No one gets on board my ship to cause trouble."

"Even over here they try," Thay ranted. "Oh that Zulilia of yours, have her promoted. I like her. I could do with having one of her on every ship."
"One transporter chief with a god complex per universe please," Layress countered. "Now we can deal with that later. Right now we....oh..."
She grabbed on to Thay to steady herself.
"Her endorphin levels are rising rapidly," Naynta said scanning her. "In another few hours they may reach toxic levels. The babies have to come now."
"Now? But... but... she Isn't ready!"
"I have performed my duties under much harsher circumstances," the midwife corrected. "The question is, are you ready?"
                                          "I am," Layress answered.
"How can I focus on this when the others that conspired with her are still out there?"
"You have to or she and the babies may die."
                                          "I..."
                                          She turned to Naynta.
"Give me something to help me focus. Something to calm me down and allow me to block out everything else."
                                          Naynta held a a syringe.
"I took the liberty of preparing this when her contractions started. It will due the job.'
                                          "Why did you do that?"
"I thought that your stress would bleed through the connection you two have. And that I'd have to sedate you for her safety."
"Alright then. Give it to me."
Naynta gave her the injection. Thay felt her stress melt away.
"Oh... This... Calm I'm not sure if I like it. But I will enjoy it for the moment. What do you need me to do?"
                                          They handed her another PADD.
"Read along. At the indicated points, hit the chimes."
                                          "I can do that."
                                          "Right, let us begin."
Thirty minutes later Thay heard the midwife say,
"Awake, child; we await you with love and welcome you into the world."
Naynta stepped forward and took the baby from the midwife. She performed a brief scan before wrapping it in a blanket. She had just finished when she heard the midwife repeat the phrase. She wrapped the second one and picked them both up and held them out to Thay.
"Your daughters, ma'am. No, hold them like this. Put that hand there... perfect you got it."
                                          She looked down at them.
"I would move planets to protect you two. There is nothing I wouldn't do for you two. I would die before I let anything happen to you. Lazy. Lazy look at them."
She walked over to the still recovering Layress.
"Look at them. Aren't they beautiful?"
                                          She smiled.
"Hello. So your the two that kept kicking me."
"So just for the medical records which one is which?" Naynta asked.
"Which one came out first?" Layress asked.
"This one," Thay replied. "The one on the right."
"She looks like you. She's Prin."
"And the other looks like you. Hello Ohsa."
                                          Papela breezed into the room.
"I stayed out as not to disturb things... Oh my... Look at those two. They are just adorable. Hello little ones. Yes I know it's cold and bright, but you'll soon get used to it."
Naynta stepped out of the room to give them some time alone. She touched her badge.
"Attention all hands. We have two new crew members. Welcome aboard Heath Prin and Heath Ohsa."

"This is INN. We are happy to report that Empress Layress has given birth this morning. We join her and her family in welcoming little Heath Prin and Heath Ohsa to the Royal Family. The Empress will be on bed rest for a few weeks before returning to her duties."

Later as Layress and the babies slept, Thay sat at her terminal.
                                          "Zulilia, this is Thay, report!"
"it's what you feared ma'am. The fed you and red you are behind this. They used telepaths to communicate leaving no hard trail to follow."
                                          "Thank you."
                                          She switched off.
Trying to kill my family at the moment when they were most vunerable...
She sent out orders. No one was to engage them but her under severe penalty.
I will deal with you two personally, she thought. You are mine and mine alone.

Terra, one month later (MU red)

Both Smith siblings paid their parents a visit, the fact that the MACOs from the picture at Kinjun were their father's troops bothered them. When they knocked on the door, Mrs Smith answered it and smiled. "Business I'm afraid mum" said Dexter. "We need to have a word with dad" added Jasmine. "What's this about?" asked Mrs Smith. "Dad may be linked to an atrocity against Federation citizens" answered Dexter. "Come on in you two" replied Mrs Smith. Both siblings entered the house and hung their officer's hats on the hooks by the door before entering the study. After Dexter passed David Smith the picture, he looked and and asked "How did you get this?" "I have my sources, those are your troops in that picture. What were they doing on a Federation colony on the day of the massacre there?" answered Dexter.

"What massacre?" asked David Smith. "The massacre where hundreds of Federation colonists were killed in cold blood just over a year ago" answered Dexter. "I wasn't there" replied David Smith. "Yes you were, I had Jas check the records. You were there, your troops on your orders rounded up Federation civilians and POWs to be killed" answered Dexter. "We have those men in custody, when questioned they were very forthcoming" added Jasmine. "I'm not guilty, who will you believe, your own blood or an impostor Empress?" answered David Smith. "We'll see" replied Dexter before the Smith siblings left the study, grabbed their officer hats and left for Mars. "I better report this to the boss" said Dexter. "Good luck" answered Jasmine. Dexter made his call, "Ma'am, as I suspected, my father is hiding something. He flatly denied being at Kinjun even though there is hard proof he gave the orders to round up Federation civilians and POWs" reported Dexter.

"Ma'am, another name came up as well. A Naynta Lot, the detained MACOs all claim to have witnessed her feeding POWs to the wildlife" added Jasmine. "How sure are you both on this? We cannot be making any mistakes" asked Heath. "99% Ma'am" answered Dexter. "Tread carefully, Empress out" said Heath and the screen went blank.

"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."

Two figures materialized on the transporter pad.
"You know that this is only the second time I've been on board." Ford commented.
"We spent most of our time together in bars...argh... damnit!"
                                            "Something wrong?"
"Stupid dress. I can't step down to get off the pad," Heath complained.
"Oh. Well I can fix that."
                                            "How are... Wha...!"
Ford picked up his new bride in his arms and stepped down off the pad.
                                            "PUT ME DOWN!"
"It'll take you forever to get anywhere. This was is faster."
"I ORDER YOU TO PUT ME DOWN CAPTAIN!"
"Sorry Admiral, but as president, I out rank you. So be quiet and enjoy the ride."
                                            "You're not president yet."
"Day after tomorrow I will be. So are you going to be a good girl or do I carry you up to the bridge?"
                                            "Don't you dare!"
                                            "Well?"
She glared at him and put her arms around his neck.
"Your going to pay for this."
"You know hitting the president is a serious crime."
                                            "I'll risk it."
                                            "So where to?"
                                            "My quarters."
"Well it is our wedding night..."
                                            "NOT FOR THAT REASON!"
                                            "Are you sure?"
"I'm going to strangle you with my stockings."
"At least I'll get to see you undressed before I die."
Her reply was lost as they left.

"We're only here because the Constellation doesn't have a slipstream drive."
"I suppose I'll have to have her updated now."
"You sound like you don't want to."
"It would feel like ripping her heart out. I mean yes she's older than most, but she has character. She's..."
                                            "One of the crew."
Heath leaned her head on his shoulder.
"I know how you feel. Some times I still miss that old creaking Miranda of mine."
They walked down the corridor in silence for a while.
                                            "Michael..."
                                            "Yes?"
"Why did you want me to wear this?"
"I admit. At first I was taking advantage of your not knowing enough Earth customs just to put you in something sexy."
                                            He stopped walking.
" But when I saw you standing there l found myself thinking 'How did I not notice how beautiful you were before this?' And I realized that... I have real feelings for you."
                                            "..."
                                            "I know you don't, but..."
"Actually... I think I do as well."
                                            "Really?"
                                            "Yes."
They stood there for a few minutes.
                                            "Michael..."
                                            "Yes?"
"I'm still going to hurt you."
                                            "I know."
                                            "Just maybe not as much."
"I'll take what I can get."
