Experimental Weapon slot?!

What's this then!? Experimental Weapon slot (mentioned in the upcoming Tzenkethi Lock Box blog). Is that the same as a Heavy Weapon slot? Or something new again? (And, if so, will other Escort ships get it too?)

Yeah, naming them heavy weapons in the first place was stupid and unimaginative. Finally a change I can support! :D
I suggested Advanced Tactical Weapon (ATW) but Experimental is acceptable, I guess.

No idea why they felt the need to change it, but Heavy Weapon did feel a bit odd (for one, it's like like any other wep, and doesn't draw more power or anything).

A friend mentioned this to me the other day and I have to agree with them, Experimental is a bad name (better than Heavy however) since it seams more of a Science Vessel thing; I personally would have rather seen an Artillery Weapon as its name, fits the name and mechanic slightly better.

first time back to this game since my depression and the first thing i notice on my defiant is this heavy weapon slot and i was thinking, what the heck is that? I looked it up and i was wondering if it was a 360 degree torpoedo launcher or super heavy cannon firing massive energy bolts at targets? Looked it up and it's a an ionstream exciter that produces electrical damage, it adds to the damage numbers pretty well.

now it's called an experimental weapon, i suppose it will fit the idea of these weapons.

Arty weapons fire over greater distances than traditional weapons, it's like firing a T2 T57 at t1 to t3 enemy tanks half way across a map on WoT, they can't hit you but you can hit them without trouble.

in this case these weapons all fire within 10km.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.

I don't mind if they call it a heavy weapon, or a experimental weapon, or a artillery weapon slot, hell even calling it merely a tactical weapon slot would be fine. For me I just wish they would expand the number of ships that use the slot, as well as what type of weapons that can be used in it abit more.

Since it is weird for a escort to have a 180-360 degree weapon that the nimble agile nature of the escort is wasted on, compared something like a much more narrow firing arc around say 90-45 degrees would fit much better. While the 180-360 degree weapons would make sense on something like battle-cruisers, dreadnoughts, and other such ship types that such a wide firing arc would benefit them much more if they had a heavy/tactical/experimental weapon slot.

So how is the Experimental Proton Weapon going to work now? Could it be changed to 360 arc and into this class of weapon?

Also in the tribble notes. It's been renamed the Dyson Proton Weapon.

Why do I get the feeling that next years multi-faction ship bundle with anniversary ship console set bonus is going to be T6 Dyson Destroyers?

I have very mixed feelings about that on one hand I want t6 dyson, on the other hand I hate 4 peice console sets and am hoping the next anniversary ship is t6 ambassador/ Kamarag.

They don't tend to make canon ships anniversary ships. But if you mean the next singular ships to get T6 treatment, I think they are more likely to do the Oberth next since they did the T6 Miranda this year, and because the Oberth is the remaining T1 ship to not yet get T6 treatment.

Wonder when an experimental disruptor weapon will come out? I haven't even bothered upgrading experimental weapons because none of them interest me.

true but the ambassador/ Kamarag were anniverary ships. so it make some sense for the t-6 version to also be an anniversary ship.

Guess I'll be leaving that slot empty, don't like the look of what they've released so far, especially the freebie. That deflector weapon was the only thing I could think of that I'd actually be willing to use in that slot, didn't realize it had already been added as a set bonus (though I'm not surprised).

They had to rename it like they did with Miracle Worker so they can use the 'Heavy Weapon' Slot for the upcoming R&D Promotion Pack Ships. ;)

Most of the really cool "experimental weapons" are on lockbox or lobi ships. The Miradorn comes with some really cool Dual Warhead Launchers that I like the look of. Not enough to get a lockbox ship for all my "experimental weapon" slots though.

Hmm, didn't know about that one, I only have 1 toon using escorts right now (NX refit), so I might have to look into it.

I never found any problem with whatever name they called it.

Got to say I am liking the idea and concept around the new experimental/heavy weapon on the Tzenkethi escort. It is still 360 degree firing arc weapon, but with the idea that to gain the full potential damage of the weapon you need the target in the foreward 45-90 degree firing arc of the ship. I think this could be a fair compromise to making experimental/heavy weapons that have a 145-180 degree firing arc to them, if we see some more weapons with this function on them, and some more of these interesting functions on the experimental/heavy weapons.
