What Do You Think? Beyond the Nexus

Well, the mission was short, story was uninteresting, the Nexus was just there and had no impact on anything whatsoever, the conflict came out of and went nowhere, and the whole thing felt like a mission that would have been removed from an earlier season so it could be overhauled.

But I have to say, the Galaxy interior is fantastic, I loved seeing LeVar Burton around (His acting was great, even if he had some iffy scripts to read), the mission rewards are really useful (I LOVE THE TYPE 3 RIFLE OH MY GOD EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!), I'm glad the new Alpha quadrant sectors are being used finally, I like the inclusion of a Caitian npc, especially one that can ACTUALLY TALK YES! Cats need more representation and lore in this game, and the 3 ships plus this are a good start. Now let us go to Ferasa and chase ALL the red dots!

In all seriousness, however, the worst part of the whole episode was the episode itself. Everything else was phenomenal.

Ask and you shall receive, so many complained about the length of the mission and the lead celebrity acting like an idiot. So we got a short mission, with a celebrity that wasn't acting like an idiot and some neat rewards. Well okay. I got what I wanted.

I agree with all the pros, cons, observations and ratings above.

The good stuff was very good :sunglasses:

They mention the ship should be torn apart because it had the ultra cheesy plot armour of "anti-nexus shields" but we never investigate why the ship is ok with them offline.

Or indeed find out why the writer was allowed to get away with something that was worse than kumaarke's space magic that saved the moon in S&M.

Primary school teachers would not be giving any gold stars or smiley faces on that creative writing homework even if it didnt end up just being a dream sequence.

So where is the rest of the episode? It seems like "most" of it is missing. I'm hoping against hope that there was a mistake and an incomplete episode was uploaded... I rushed home from my day to play this? I was expecting quite a bit more.

This was basically an excuse to sell the Galaxy Class interior wasn't it? As bad as previous episodes where we get to test-fly a premium ship as a major plot point. I get that you need to push the cash-store transactions but you could have built an actual episode to do so.

This was little more than something that was whipped up in a few hours, with a celeb VO thrown in to make up for the lack of content.

    Disappointed.

NO stars out of five possible.

    Bah, forum ate my post.

Let's see, I don't have a problem with it being short. There are definitely shorter episode out there.

I suspect we'll see a mission inserted earlier in the continuity that gives our character a proper introduction to LaForge, as it's been done before with Krog in Temporal Front and later (but earlier in the ultimate progression of the story) in Core of the Matter,

Probably because they weren't offline. It was a ruse to get us to come in close to either be infected or destroyed. It wasn't space magic in Mirrors and Smoke, it was controlled protomatter use for terraforming by a species that was already stated to have perfected it, and it sure didn't save all of those Kentari on the moon that were obliterated by the Tzenkethi. This isn't space magic, either, it's technological progression. After encountering the Nexus a few times, Starfleet did what it could to make ships capable of resisting the effect so that they could study the thing.

This wasn't a great story by any means, but these things aren't the issues here. Poor pacing and unimaginative conflict for the sole effect of getting a TNG star in there in time for the anniversary and to show off some set pieces were the problems. How the Forestal survived the Nexus intact was a problem.

A Caitian Captain named Kythki is another problem. Here's every interaction between her and a human: "Right away, Captain Kitty... errr, Kythki."
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

When she asked for help, I said out loud "sure thing, kitty-kitty, on our way..."

And when she shot at us, during the battle I was saying "Bad kitty, no! Bad!"

I wonder if anyone else does that sort of thing. I mean she's a cat, we all talk to cats when nobody else is around to hear us, right? It's not just me... is it?
I talk to my cats regardless of who else is around :D The Turkish Angora is the most vocal in terms of responses, with a variety of sounds, where the Tabby simply mews at any acknowledgement or contact, and the Calico is fairly silent :sunglasses:

I liked it, but definitely was a bit too short. And some more info on the Nexus and what StarFace was doing there would have been appreciated.

I do like the concept of the Nexus being used as a prison. Perhaps the "paradise" thing is just a defense to keep unwanted people from breaking prisoners out: who cares about rescuing your associate when you've literally found your personalized heaven? The inner layer could be some nightmarish hell where telepaths are locked away so they don't interfere with the material universe. That would certainly explain StarFace's desperation to escape.

LeVar Burton's voice acting was great as well.

I can't remember, how many years had the Forrestal been missing in the Nexus?
    2332 IIRC.

According to Memory Alpha, the unfiroms in question were used from the late 2270s - 2350s, so it matches up.
When I first played through the mission, I could have swore the Forrestal was a Galaxy Class. Either a glitch on my end or I didn't pay enough attention to the model used for the Forrestal, I could believe either.

The Madison crew are still in Jupiter uniforms, though.

    > I didn't really mind this episode being on the shorter side considering Brushfire was pretty long, especially if you played it on advanced or elite. It was just an appetizer episode to introduce us to La'forge and to give us a hint at what is to come in the next season and I think it succeeded.

I agree and I totally forgot about increasing the difficulty. I had blasted my way through really quick.

    Thoughts:
The hit continue and he acts like I offered an opinion sounds like something was supposed to be on that button other than just continue.
The again statement left me wondering if I had skipped a mission where we had met before.

As to the mission. My only beef on the interior is deck ten and ten forward felt a little bit small somehow. Like to keep the ceiling from vaulting over us they compressed it all down to closets.

No explanation of who activated the holodeck remotely.
But otherwise a fast and fun episode.

A short Mission indeed. Two of those blasted mini-games again. Quick fun, but remember the point of the Mission - TO SHOW OFF THE NEW GALAXY INTERIOR. Once you come to terms with that you will be at peace with the 'Great Bird of the Galaxy'.

The nice thing about the Mission Rewards set bonuses - they are all Passives. And a Phaser Omni that can be equipped with the crafted one.

    Just a wild mass guess.
But the entity was not known about till we reached ten forward and you had folks holding out in there for days with no replicators and in wrong uniforms. One of the first places we had to explore was the holodeck and someone turned it on with no safeties. . . What if according to the story we never left.

    ///RED ALERT: SPOILER WARNING\\\
Seriously if you're skipping this post, what are you doing in this thread.

I am going to just call a couple things out first. 1. As a Federation/aligned player, having Geordi say "Good to see you again." Again? I don't recall meeting you before. Oh well it's semantics I'm picking at. The second issue is similar to the Tholian prison suits n Brushfire. Commander T'Fei is wearing a medical variant of the original Admirals coat. Her Commander Rank insignia is on her chest. YET when you talk to her, her popup window shows her tank badges on her collar which is not present on the normal model outside the dialog window.

Comabt was a bit too simple, for my T6 Vesta/Mogh/Faet and T5 Vesta/Ranger Classes. But it wasn't insanely overpowered like Brushfire was. However, I would like to see the next FE hit that sweet spot now of proper balance in challenge, and ease of use for our end game builds. But Levar picked up Geordi like he just walked off the set yesterday, so I am thoroughlly impressed. Not only with his voice work but the writing for his character. Clearly everyone responsible for this knew how Captain LaForge worked.

Also because of the Forrestal Ship's members wearing TWOK uniforms, can I assume the USS Forrestal is an Ambassador class? Ah well, Overall a really fun episode, a good 'get our feet wet' til october episode. And great job on the Galaxy interiors.

There are two galaxy class ships there, the Challenger and Madison, there is the PC ship and finally an Ambassador class which is the Forrestal.

The Forrestal fires at you after you are finished on the Madison.

I liked that we got to use the Stun setting instead of Kill.

I hope that we get a Barclay mission where we get to meet the pink girl's flesh and blood counterpart.

Overall though, it felt more like an advertisement designed to sell Galaxy Interiors than an actual mission. It was mostly just a tour of the set piece. That is especially true with the Achievements for visiting more of the map than required.

More of a preview of the ship interior and Burton's (great) voicework than a true episode, IMO. Very short and not much going on, but I still liked it.

My main problems are with the fact the Nexus is barely used (and this is a big letdown, considering what the Nexus caused in canon and what it could have done in the game), other than being a small part of the antagonist's story and with said antagonist. Not the character per se, but it's more of a "who are you and why should I care?" feeling I got.

The guy comes out of nowhere, doesn't seem to be an allusion to an episode or movie, and doesn't pose much of a threat (would have been interesting to have a part of the mission where you're mind-controlled and forced to do bad things until you're snapped out of it by something or someone. Instead, we have "oh hey, we conveniently have a mcguffin just for you that can resist his powers before you even encounter the guy, go kick his butt").

Hopefully, he'll be back for next episodes as an ally to give him a reason to be in the game.

Also, the first interaction with la Forge seems to indicate the episode was released sooner than originally intended.

Why aren't all the rewards available?

They never are for FE's usually the set items are the choice options although brushfire for some reason gave the set console as a reward and choice was the vanilla thing.

Next week will see the torpedo added as an option and the week after the omni beam.

They do have them greyed out and dated.

Let's them get extended life out of the FE. Gives them more time to continue working on the next FE.

I'll have to check again the next time I play it, but the USS Forrestal, according to Memory Beta, is an Ambassador Class Starship and the Season 13.5 Episode 'Beyond the Nexus' is the source.

There is no mention of it at all in Memory Alpha.

Maybe we can look forward to a T6 Ambassador in the future C-Store lineup. :)

Nice V.O., nice interior, but sorry....and I shall say this loudly.....ahem,

YOU CANNOT CALL THIS AN EPISODE!!!!

    Shockingly short!!!

If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

The mission is short, but i went in expecting a release of season 14 due to the Tuesday release so that was a bit of a letdown.
The Interior and VO were nice, but the mission overall was lackluster.

For the length i would say it is convenient that it is short and fitting for a filler episode.
Considering i expected more it is a bit of a letdown overall.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
