Can we watch planet go boom if we sit there and shoot at nothing?

Will this become a fixed RA or short time one - again?

Sorry to oink so negatively, but that sounds too complicated for a "red alert". The queues already were unnecessary, the Red Alerts were supposed to be quick encounters without much hassle, more or less a simple "kill five groups" mission. The Na'Kuhl alert already felt a bit clunky, this reads as if we have to do something time-gated again which would be better suited for a "large" PvE queue, not a "Red Alert".

Ah, good, you changed the wording in the blog. I was about to ask why in the world this was going to be made a 5v5 queue, but no need now.

As for the RA itself, hmm.

If it works as well as the Tzenkethi Battlezone, I can see myself never touching this after giving it a first try.

If it's as much fun as the Gravity Kills queue, I can see myself never touching this after giving it a first try.

If it's as much fun as The Tzenkethi Front queue, I can see myself playing it once or twice a month, maybe.

I think this queue may end up having a "forced positive" ending if players 'fail' the queue, err, Red Alert. Similar to the Days of Doom queue where a Fed starship captain sacrifices their ship to stop the Doomsday Machine.

I guess we'll see in about a month.

I didn't even play Doomsday Machine Queue... Because it sounded too complicated. It would just be better to add a Ground BZ and be done with it. lol
The Rising of the Delta is the best expansion ever, and people love it to death because it is a good day to die in the endless struggle for supremacy of your own conviction. (A spin off of the Delta Rising is the best expansion ever and all the players love it.)

Well, if you want a lore reason.

Iconian red alerts doen't even make sense, it would be like an Iconian Battlezone. The whole point of the Iconians is that you can't get them at any one place because they teleport everywhere, and can bypass all defences.

But that makes them the ideal species for a RA in my opinion. They could have randomly shown up at core planets, very close to the planet too.

I hope this new RA won't be a limited time thing.
  • shadowfirefly00shadowfirefly00 Member Posts: 1,026 Arc User
One possibility is that they have opted to field analogues to cruise missiles (runabout-sized craft dedicated to carrying warheads to target). In such a case, this RA could run on the premise that a flight of the things has been located en route, and the players have to pick out the genuine articles from the decoys. Thing is, the ships which launched them were close enough to come and run interference...

The missiles could spawn at one end of the map, and the players have to keep the actual warheads from making it to the other side. There would be X groups, appearing at regular intervals, each with a random mix of warheads (always at least one) and decoys. Complicating the process of sorting this out, of course, are the frigates and cruisers that've arrived.

It's after all the warheads are eliminated that the players would jump to catch the launching vessel before it escapes. In other words, the dreadnought and its close escorts would be in a new map, and there's a time limit (see: Tholian and Borg RAs).

and the iconians still don't have a red alert...why?
That could be explained by the idea that after the events of 'Midnight', T'Ket's 'siblings' have been busy keeping her and her forces tied up... it's a family affair, after all. Still, it would have been interesting to see the existing RAs have added to them a chance for one of T'Ket's 'kill teams' to show up. Note that this could also be done with the Na'kuhl... whose specific RA should never have gone away to begin with.

And yes, the OPFOR rosters for things like Fleet Alert and Starbase Defense are long overdue for being updated.

could a T-RA happen in Sol... I'd sit back and watch to see Earth get blown to bits for laughs...

this RA is so stupid... if you fail planet goes boom and dies... but what impact would it have in the game? nothing... should just make it so you need to "finish" within a fixed time otherwise a hero ship comes in and saves the day and you get squat.

As scary as they made the Iconians out to be they sure got dismissed back to the end of the line rather quickly for villains.

    Sweet.
I'm looking forward to this Red Alert.
I like the Elachi and Mirror Red alerts a lot.
Wish they'd start doing a weekly or bi-weekly rotation of Red Alerts with different alien groups.
    Maybe something like this:

    Week:
    Week-1: Mirror/Terran Empire
    Week-2: Elachi
    Week-3: Voth
    Week-4: Dominion
    Week-5: Tzenkethi
    Week-6: Orion Pirates
    Week-7: Gorn Separatists
    Week-8: Herald
    Week-9: Undine
    Week-10: Cardassian True Way
    Week-11: Breen
    Week-12: Na'Khul

Then start over again for a three-month cycle.
    Just a suggestion.
Since Cryptic already has all the ships for those powers I would imagine creating a Red-Alert map would not be too difficult for each of them provided the game-engine and servers can handle it (which I imagine they should).

I'm not sure I agree totally with your example, but I definitely like your concept of some sort of rotation with a focus instilled.

Even though this had been announced a couple of months ago at least it's new content or at least a fresh paint job.

The Temporal Maurauders (Na'kuhl) Red Alert set the precedent for PVE Queue Red Alerts. When they, without any announcement, converted the Borg and Tholian to Queues, they pulled the Na'kuhl at the same time. Again, without any announcement.

I thought they mentioned that with the coming of the Colony Fleet Holding, there was going to be some sort of affiliated Tzen'kethi Ground Battlezone.

They said a new colony holding special event. What's that, you ask? Not a clue.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

Will this drive another nail into the coffin of the already struggling public PvE queues if this has choice of marks, and is as quick and easy as the Borg and Tholian Red Alerts ?.

    Q. will Borg and Tholian RA's have the new rep marks added and will they reward as many as the New RA ?.

Personally i'd keep any new rep out of Borg and Tholian, as if this new RA turns out to be a time sink or pita to pug then you can write it's obituary now.

Hello rubber banding my old friend, time to bounce around the battlezone again, where are all my bug reports going?, out of love with this game I am falling, As Cryptic fail to acknowledge a problem exists, Shakes an angry fist, And from Support all I'm hearing are the sounds of silence.

War is over. Borg, Tholians, and presumably Tzenkethi, are still around.

Also, at this point, it's far too late to justify spending money on a red alert for an enemy group that is no longer the focus. Same reason Cryptic has said they will never be able to truly fix the Defera Borg battlezone.
Yet they "fixed" a glitch to let us have our full landing party. Bunch of party poopers at Cryptic. A glitch that didn't hurt anyone but the Borg.

I stopped doing Red Alerts when they made them into all the time RA. Kind of like yelling "wolf" if you keep doing that no one will come.
I also remember they were made impossible to do as no one ever showed up to help me. Did they fix that yet?

    Kael,

IMO, all ques should be made into Red Alerts. They're the only viable non-single player action in the game. I can't complete Reputations because there's no one playing the rep-ques I need. Playing Borg Red Alert every 30 minutes is getting really old. Add the Nukara Red Alert to that 30 minute list too.

Why not just have one single over-arching red alert where the map and enemy is randomly chosen?? Wouldn't that be keen??

whats the point of the so called Red Alerts when they are queues anyway?
Annoying flashy red buttons everywhere in the quadrant? And thats another thing there.... they're EVERYWHERE! Not region specific or time specific, its red alerts all the time, everywhere. Its not supposed to be a continuous thing by definition, its supposed to be an event. If its on all the time then thats not a red alert its just a normal occurence.
Borg.... everywhere, that's ok I guess, they could do that, but all the damn time? Really? But now the tholians have the same ability and scope, war against everyone.... everywhere.

L'Miren stated she would not oppose T'Ket, even in the defence of the player, assuming the other ten have a similar mentality, I suspect they're doing w/e with L'Miren on Iconian ... or they agree with T'Ket.

Somehow I'm starting to think that a ground BZ for the kethi is never going to happen.

I liked the old system that popped them up randomly on the map and you had a race on your hands to get there in time to prevent the game from dumping you into an empty instance.

If it's another generic kill x baby ships and one capital ship then it'll probably not be one I do often as I find fighting their ships to be tedious rather than a challenge. Admittedly that might be down to the 30+ mins I took doing the FE on a lowbie in a t1 or t2 where you waste all that time only for the ship to vanish with zero reward and the wasted cliffhanger opportunity for your efforts.
