Nine Ninja Nerf (seen patch notes thread is closed already)

Here's lastest patch notes (checked older ones too but same):
General

Resolved an issue that occasionally causes a crash when starting the game.
Resolved an issue that prevented Klingon-aligned players from opening Personnel Reward - "Kobali Warfare Specialist" more than once.
Survivor: Resolved an issue that would allow players to walk through collision in certain areas.
Resolved an issue in chat where chat tabs that were set to team-only would type in local chat instead when the player was added to a team.
Resolved an issue where training a bridge officer in a new specialization prevented switching bridge officer specializations until logging out and logging back in.
Temporal Defense Initiative Regenerative Shield Array visuals now display the proper rainbow reflection.
The ship pack that contains the D9 Dreadnought Battlecruiser [T6], Prototype Dreadnought Cruiser [T6], or Thrai Dreadnought Warbird [T6] has been renamed to "23rd Century Tier 6 Undiscovered Dreadnought" to be more visually distinct from the "Special Requisition Pack - 26th Century Heavy Dreadnought Tier 6 Ship" pack.

Systems

Changed the weapons sold on the 23c. Earth Spacedock to be Tradeable and Bind to Account on equip, from Bind on Pickup and CantSell.
Resolved an issue that caused some 23c. items sold from vendors to not have any binding rules. They are now Account Bind on Equip.
Resolved an issue that prevented the Fleet Research Lab Boosts from affecting the player while they were dead.
Simplified and clarified tooltip descriptions for Directed Energy Flux (Husnock Starship Trait).
Resolved an issue that could cause the Focused Singularity Beam to disable prematurely.
The beam will still correctly deactivate when the player runs out of Singularity Power, if the target gets out of the 135' targeting arc, or if something blocks the player’s line of sight to the target.
The "Prototype Tantalus Field" set bonus now lasts for 10 seconds instead of 5, and has an improved description.
Resolved an issue with the proc on Kelvin Phaser Emitters that prevented it from activating.
Isolytic Plasma Ground weapons now have a 5% proc chance, from 2.5%.
Resolved an issue that could allow the Weapon Haste from the Prolonged Engagement Weapons to affect other Energy Weapons.
Resolved an issue that allowed some shield drains to be scaled by abilities not intended to scale shield drains.
The engineering Captain power "Miracle Worker," has been renamed to "Miraculous Repairs."
This is a text change only.

Ships

Resolved an issue where the Voth Heavy Fighter template would appear as “K’tinga” when customizing a starship.
Resolved an issue where the ship's name on the Constitution Refit saucer would start to repeat itself if the name was too long.
T6 TOS Constitution skin: Resolved an issue where the Temporal "Stance" mechanic colored glow would trail too far behind the ship.
T5-U Fleet Chimera Destroyer: Resolved an issue that prevented the aft weapons from being set to auto-fire.
Resolved scaling issues with the Krenim Annorax Science Dreadnought's Chroniton Lance.
Known Issue:

Research and Development 4-Pack Bundle description does not state that it also includes all previous promotional ships.
This is a text-only issue.

There's mentioned the changed name of Miracle worker but i dont see anything about changing name AND removing the immunity to warp core breachs of Scratch the Paint n Pilot specialization, still, now is called Shield Scraping and dont give any immunity (i was wondering how come all of sudden i started die for no reasons lol)....

I was wondering more about the renaming of what is probably the most canon of all captain abilities: Miracle Worker. I don't care what the next specialization is called. Scotty would not approve. "Miraculous Repairs" is just plain silly.

Funny how they filed the patch notes away right away to avoid further comments unlike other patch notes which are still open to discussion.

Where is the thumbs down emote?

What about that? "I don't like change!" is not a great argument. There will be a Miracle Worker available to everyone in October, probably even as a clicky power from the specialization. Scotty would approve of making it more common, after all, it wasn't the Captain that was the Miracle Worker, but the Chief Engineer, and every Captain has one of those, no matter what they studied themselves before committing to the Command track.

One patch note thread was left open by mistake a couple of weeks ago. Other than that, they've been immediately closing them down and archiving them for months now. It has nothing to do with you ginning up outrage over nothing.

Umm, what? It's still there, and the description at least still says that it does the same thing. Scratch the Paint is a Tier III unlock, while Shield Scraping I and II are Tier IV.

Mhhh, my bad about the name still pilot is, for now, the only specialization i filled and before was defo immune but since patch i am not anymore immune to warp cores breachs, beside, before i had a buff while flying (on combat maps at least) not anymore.

    Scratchthe_Paint_Much.jpg

As you can see there's just Pedal and another doff mission buff now.

Also, Grace under fire dont work anymore either, noticed on main (was in Crystalline, used Miracle worker like 10 secs before it unleashed his wave, wave took like 60% of my hull but miracle worker was still happily in cd) so then "suicided" quite some times on an alt (even though tbh dying isnt really a prob in this game, no consequences at all) trying to get the cd to refresh and it never worked.

No, it's not a a great argument. The change will make Miracle Worker even more widespread, which would be a better tribute to Montgomery Scott if the phrase hadn't already been associated with Anne Sullivan for some years before Star Trek even existed.

You're outraged, at least in the general worked up over nothing sense that it's used on the internet.

I get that all of the time. I don't think that anyone even approves posts. It was especially bad the other day when I had written a long build help post and the forum refused to take it.

Yeah, seems a unneeded change. My guess is they want to make a Ship Trait or Resequencer by that name.

FWIW I have also not seen GUF work on the three engineering captains I have since the power rename.

Leave Helen Keller out of it. This is a STO forum darn it  A seven year old in-game captain ability's name has been changed. I called it silly. I'm glad you've downgraded me from outraged to "worked up". Thank you.

That's because you don't understand the argument. "Miracle Worker" is a beloved 'Scottie' catch phrase: very well known, and very canon. To rename the iconic ability to "Miraculous Repairs" is just plain silly.

Then the sensible thing would have been to rename the upcoming ability to something else, like, I dunno, Miraculous Repairs, maybe?!

Strange, I've had the opposite. GUF seems pretty reliable for my Engineer. Maybe you are not getting the requisite damage-incoming to trigger it within the time limit? I believe it's 20% in 5secs?

Dunno, Scotty wasn't a captain. So generalizing this ability (i. e. each career can get it from a boff) makes sense to me. And how many would have noticed if they would have done it without patch notes.

I can see the argument, but it really is down to "I don't like the change". Which is fine here to me, but let's call it what it is, shall we?

Had my captain get taken out by a single warp core breech tonight. Scratch the paint definitely was not on cool down at the time as I had been nowhere near a warp core breech in the previous 3-5 minutes, I looked afterwards, still had pilot spec as my active primary. I am absolutely sure it was a single warp core breech as I was 8km above the boss ship in a borg ra, no probes within 10+ km of me the whole time to have put scratch the paint on cooldown yet when the ship blew it took me right out.
    LTS and loving it.

Why do alot of players always seem to think their is some grand conspiracy of cryptic being personally against them, or always being sneaky to on purpose cause players to pay money, then apparently immediatley "nerf" what they brought?

Or some grand conspiracy to change things always behind the players backs?

    Still cant understand it :)

I hear ya, Man. Loud and clear.

Every time I read one of these "poor, poor, pitiful me threads" my reaction is always the same:
BWAH HAH HAH HAH! Yo, Snowflake! Y'all want some cheese to go with all that whine, Precious?

I have been playing this game since February 2012.
    -Does it have bugs? Yes.
-Are there dumb things which go on it? Yes.
-Is Cryptic in business to earn a profit? Yes.
-Are they a successful business? Yes.
-Do successful businesses remain successful by continually antagonizing their customers? No.
-Do I set up ships poorly? Yes.
-Have I made poor choices in this game? Sure have. Still do every day.
-Do I feel like the Devs are headhunting me? No. They have no idea at all who I am. They can only generalize about me from the metrics. And no matter what they think, they are and will continue to be wrong about me.
-Do I ever let myself forget it is game and not a lifestyle choice? Nope.

It is far easier for Humans to accept themseves failing due to outside circumstances than it is to admit they fail because of their own mistakes or weaknesses. It is okay to fail these days as long as you can blame someone else for your failure. Further, doing things in this manner reflexively generates sympathy from others of a similar mindset, which makes the person in question feel better about the poor choices and decisions he/she made. And evade any accountability or responsibility for their actions while doing so.

    Grand Conspiracy? No.

Somewhat questionable business model at times? Yes.

If you think that Cryptic doesn't engage in the practice of selling power creep and then nerfing it to sell more power creep then I admire your optimism. They just white wash the tactic by calling it a 'balance pass' like that fools anyone.

As for Scratch The Paint, I haven't really played with it, but the core problem here is the ridiculous amount of damage that Warp Core Breaches do. It's really kinda silly, if I die in this game, 90% of the time it's because of a Warp Core Breach.

The other 10% is not noticing feedback pulse in Hive Elite and opening fire like an idiot.

Nah. It really comes down to "It's silly to rename an iconic Engineering Captain ability when introducing something new." The logical thing to do, would have been to name said 'something new' something else.
