Hey people of STO, I have a new mission I've just finished, and I was looking for some reviews. Any advice, suggestions, or other reactions are welcome!
Name: Into the Fog of War
Allegiance: FED
Level: Any level
Mission ID: ST-HCLAXOTVJ
Author: uncle2fire
Start Location: Risa System, Risa Sector, Beta Quadrant
Description: A top-secret mission has gone awry. An agent of Section 31 reports a missing ship, lost in a system cut off from outside communications, and under threat from a group of violent terrorists. The mission falls to you: find and save the missing ship's crew and destroy the terrorist base, or the threat they pose will spread.
If you have a new mission you'd like me to play through in exchange, I'm happy to do so!
Hahahaha, love the names in this mission! It has well written text and a compelling story. No matter how much or how little you write someone is going to say it is too much or too little, so I usually ignore those comments. I do like the multiple decisions in the dialog. Not many do that because, well it is a pain to program in so you get bonus points for that :-) The maps are really good, excellent job. There are only 2 changes I would make. It took some time to find where to place 2 of the charges. A small object at those locations so that there is a glow where the charges go would help. Normally I wouldn't care about the next thing because most missions you don't go back to the same location, but because you have to go back to the area of the station you blew up it should be replaced with the inactive version so it looks damaged or use more explosion effects and make it look like the station completely disintegrated. Other than that it is all very good.
Thank you so much for playing and for your comment! I'm glad you liked the dialogue choices, and found the story compelling, and those are definitely two things I had thought about while doing the polishing, but wasn't able to really do justice. I'll definitely update the map with an inactive space station, and I'll try again to make it easier to figure out where exactly the charges need to be placed, because I was definitely worried that it would be too difficult, and you've confirmed that now.
I meant to put this in the original post, but forgot, so I understand if you're not sure, but how long would you say the mission took you? I'm looking for a pretty rough estimate, because I'm not positive my playthroughs take as long as other players'.
I played it myself yesterday and enjoyed it. The presence of Section 31 always makes things more interesting, because you can be sure from the start that these guys' motives will be questionable at best, and that they are going to tell you only half of the facts, while expecting blind obedience from you!
The map design was very good and the mission's successive objectives flowed smoothly with one another, even though mayhaps one would wish for less technical jargon at times, as not all players are used to such terms.
All in all, i really enjoyed it.
If you feel like it, i invite you to have a go at my own Foundry series Delta Mirror. I actually created a new topic about it in this sub-forum.
I played this mission during the Foundry Endeavor event. It's not bad on its own merits, but it's one of those missions that begs for a sequel or a larger story, simply because I was left wondering just what good I was doing in the grand scheme of things.
Thank you for playing! I'm actually really glad you said this, because that's exactly the feeling I was trying to provoke. I'm working on a sequel now, which will hopefully resolve some of that uncertainty.
