It truly is a work of art.
Too bad the rest of the company has to tarnish his work by using it for a greedy cash grab.

I'm really excited about it, myself. It's fantastic work that Thomas has done. And on his free time too!

They've got their own bills to pay, I don't begrudge them for that. As long as his work is recognized and Thomas the Cat has no problem with it, then neither do I.

I have no problems with companies making money. What I do have a problem with is underhanded business practices that spits in the face of fans.

Yeah lets be honest. The excuse of CBS said no TOS connie for years and then they release it in an R&D pack out of the reach of 99% of the games population was pretty craptacular. Nice new model though yeah... the 1% thanks you for your service.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. And were this not a free to play business model, I would find it pretty unforgivable. But it is free to play, and as underhanded as it may seem at times these things are necessary. When the company needs a large sum of money, especially in order to invest in a future project, they have to find a way to get that money so the company and all of its employees and products can stay afloat while investing in those new projects. I think they may need this. The new content has been kinda, well, short of late.

Yeah I understand the reasoning, but I don't have to like it...nor do I appreciate the CBS lie that was shoved down our throats for years. I'm personally not happy with the direction the game has taken over the past year or so, but that's ot.

    That's fair.

As a point of curiosity, what makes you think it was a lie? If the explanation is too long for here, PM me. This is as far off topic as I'll go, my apologies.

    Yes, it is very beautiful.

Pity I won't be able to make any use of it, but at least I can use the Miranda in end-game.

What "CBS lie"? The timing of the introduction of an end game Connie makes perfect sense. When STO was a whiteboard list off bullet points Paramount was busy re-launching the Star Trek brand and wanted there to be no fanfare or hooplah for the old Constitution while they were building up public recognition for the new movie version. They told CBS that, and CBS told Cryptic that. From there Cryptic tells fan "CBS said no". Perfect, literal truth. "You shall have no Connie before the KT Connie, and lo, there was no end game connnie in STO. And it was good." Then we have then incident with Gamestop, Cryptic has to go whine and plea to CBS, and CBS has to go talk to paramount, and in the end we get the minimalist compromise of a T1 TOS Connie in game and Gamestop deigns to put STO on their shelves.

Fast forward 7 years to when Paramount finished their big movie run and also started seeing STO as part of the overall brand's ability to promote itself, they allowed KT stuff into STO. Shortly there after (after AGAIN allowing the new KT Connie first dibbs at the watering hole of player money) the TOS Connie is released. In the ONLY way that makes sense for introducing possibly THE most iconic ship in all SF-fandom: a roughly $200 super ship.

I have no idea about the whole Connie issue's behind the scenes part. But I do find accusing somebody of "lying" pretty strong stuff if you cannot back it up with proof. (And "it seems illogical to me" or "anybody capable of thought realizes that" isn't proof). You can mention there's no confirmation of all of this from CBS' side. You can mention how Cryptic (as anybody) will easily spin statements to make them look better and fend off responsibility for unpopular issues. But an outright direct lie would be very risky indeed for Cryptic - especially "blaming CBS", which can, if wrongly accused, cut off the license at a whim, but also any kind of confidence players have. So I would like to see proof of this, or people should change their phrasing IMO.

    This ^

All three ships are awesome staples of the franchise. Sadly the hassle to get them here and how they are offered kills any incentive for me to get those ships for my characters.

One odd thing, is it just me or is the Type 8 material a lot darker and more mottled looking on the Connie than it is on the Miranda? On the Miranda in the tailor it looks nice and bright white, when I looked at the Connie in the tailor the skin was much darker and far less smooth in appearance. Has that been the case for anyone else?

I've noticed that too. Don't get me wrong, I'm still in love with the new upgrade, but it does seem a bit patchworky looking. Especially on the underside of the saucer. Maybe we're doing something wrong.

Maybe it's the lighting? I get the opposite effect with the Miranda.

Great work, art team. When I won my first constitution last year, I sold it as quickly as possible since I never liked the TOS aesthetic and the TMP skin was lacking. Thanks for rectifying this issue as I am very happy to use this ship now.

I agree making the 'flagship' ship of the series as only obtainable by the super lucky and/or super space-rich is a bit of a slimy thing to do. If they had made the TOS Connie rare and then made the TMP one 'for the masses' in the C-store so everyone could have one if they wanted would have been a better solution.

At first I hated when they started putting ships in the C-store (P2W!); but compared to lockboxes and R&D pack ships, the C-store is freaking Nirvana. You pay for a ship you GET a ship! What a concept! But I guess too many players have too much disposable income to waste on gambling. So why charge $30 when you can charge, essentially, $400. Which is just insane for a ship most players would get tired of using after a few month and then move on to the next shiny object.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Depends on where you are in the game. I have a very good loking ship on ESD, but on K7 it looks ugly, and in DS9 looks in between, so... i'm using the Exeter skin anyway, i love the refit, but it does not bode well in the theme for my char, thou the material is 8, 8b is nice, but i like 8 better..
