Superior Romulan Operative? Female vs Male Boff?

thestargazethestargaze Member Posts: 1,020 Arc User
Why is it that only the male boff has the trait 'Supervisor Romulan Operative', while the female version ONLY is 'Romulan Operative'???? This is at the embassy vendor.

As a female it feels like discrimination and i was a bit offended when I discovered this.

if they are the same, why would the male have the 'superior' in front of it for ONLY the male toon? Is the romulan female tactical boff not good enough?

Doesn't this give the wrong signal to younger female (and male) players that play Star Trek Online!??

Please, change this!!!!

This may be a small detail but I think it's quite unfair and important.

Edit: I would like to point out that the description of the trait is exactly the same, except the superior part which is silly!

Also point out that all traits of the other female vs male traits are the same except for the blue tactical romulan boffs.

Srsly, I'm not sure if this is trolling or just an issue of knowing jack about boffs & traits.

This is for the other factions via embassy console. You can buy romulan boffs there. The price is also same between female and male romulan boff of blue variartity .. still the word superior is excluded for the female boff. .. which is what my point is about !!

Perhaps you didn't read my post correctly, because then you would understand why I'm taking offence to this .. which may be a small detail but important.

I'm surprised none has taken notice to this and corrected it. There is no reason why the male should be called superior and the female not. Star Trek is about equality ..., last time I checked.

If you are a Romulan captain you will see that the bridge officers of either gender can have either the "regular" or Superior version of the trait. That's how boff traits work - basic X, X, superior X. The X can be sturdy, luck, creative, whatever.

The oversight is that the embassy offers male Romulans with the Superior version but not females.

You're absolutely right, I don't see why you're personally offended because those 2 tac boffs got different traits. The male got "Superior Romulan Operative" & "Superior Physical Strength" whereas the female got "Superior Soldier" & "Superior Mental Discipline". Period. The is no discrimination agenda behind this, that's just how the traits for these boffs were distributed.
Also point out that all traits of the other female vs male traits are the same except for the blue tactical romulan boffs.

Also that's wrong, they all have different trait set ups all listed here.

Again, that wasn't my point, .. but its fine. I am not going to argue about it. Just wanted to point out how it might be interperated as.

They're talking about the embassy boffs you can purchase...not about the ones Romulans recruit from the rare as winning the lottery Doff missions that pop up for RR.

Superior Female Romulan operatives cannot be bought and would never lower themselves to that silly Federation standard..The Males however

Seeing the list of traits in the link seriousdave provided, I can see what you mean. I forget what quality my Romulan tactical female is (I don't think I sprung for very rare) but as boffs go, she's pretty inferior compared to my other female tactical boffs (I've found Bajoran females are good as tactical officers, as are Klingon females) Ironically, my very best boff, is a common quality 'alien' engineer. She's good in tactical situations (often the last toon standing) and definitely acts as the away team's medic, without prompting. If I'm honest, my Romulan boff wasn't really worth the spend. I'm not airlocking her, but wouldn't buy another, nor recommend to anyone else, based on my own experiences... :-\

The embassy boffs have random traits, like boffs in general. SRO is rare. The male tac boff got lucky, the others did not. End of story.

All rare Romulan Boff from the fleet embassy have two superior traits regardless of the sex. It just so happens that the male tactical Romulan Boff is the only one with SRO. On the other hand, the female tactical Romulan Boff is the only one with Superior Solider. I could argue the fact that if I wanted a Romulan Boff with Superior Soldier, then I am forced to select a female Boff.

Regardless of the assigned sex to the Boff, each Boff has unique traits. It is not a sexist thing, it is just how Cryptic decided to allocate space and ground traits to make each of them unique.

But who wants a embassy boff for the ground traits...plenty of others ways to get a boff with SS...no other ways to get a boff with SRO unless you're RR.

My main toon is ROM. Her crew is ENTIRELY female, about 15 boffs, and they are ALL SRO's. My to hit is like +30 percent too.

The fact of the matter is each Romulan Boff is unique. It just so happens that SRO has been assigned to a male rather than a female. Does that make it a conspiracy? Does that mean the Devs are purposefully and insidiously implying that females are inferior to males? What if the decision to assign SRO to a male was made by a woman?

Unfortunately the real good combination is missing. SRO + Subterfuge as secondary space trait. The gender for such a boff is irrelevant imho.

they can fix all this by making all BO come with no preselected traits... when commissioned you the player decide what traits they will get... and if a BO is required to pick a racial trait, you pick that as well. I would love to select a Rom Sci BO with SRO and S Creative... have never seen that combo before.

It is "missing" because Boffs only have 1 space trait while the remaining 3 are all ground traits.

That's true for the embassy boffs but not for boffs in general. And as they are available to Rom players, I wouldn't mind to get them for other factions, too.

Yeah, that is true. But since this thread is about embassy Boffs I excluded the regular Romulan Boffs.

Yep, felt the same way when I got my first female Embassy RO's (on my Engi main). And it really *is* a bit insulting. As a Rom Tact, however, you'll find there are plenty female Rom boffs with SRO too.

'each Romulan Boff is unique' LOL, nice try. :) No, they really *did* decide that only the male Embassy boffs would have SRO, and that the females somehow were to be inferior. And although I'm long since over it, it really was a rather sexist decision on their part.
What if the decision to assign SRO to a male was made by a woman?

    Same difference.

Yes, each of the Embassy Romulan Boffs is unique. Because no two have the same exact combination of traits. The point of this thread is about the Embassy Boffs, not the Boffs that originates from Doff missions.

Since I focus of both space and ground missions I have no problems choosing a male Romulan Boff for SRO and a female Romulan Boff for Superior Soldier.

That's how you grab a white-knighting random forum flamer complaining about something he/she can't understand. Because basic knowledge is required when you have an opinion. Or some forum trolls will gum you around and troll you down until they're bored. - Boff gender is irrelevant, especially spacewise. If SRO, it applies. If not, it applies to ground traits - superior soldier.

...another advocate of lunacy being offended of a gameplay trait...

I fully agree with the OP.

In Cryptic’s defense I think reason for this fauxpas is another rushed development back at the day when the fleet embassy was made and stuff had to punt into it while the rest of the team already started working on LoR. The boffs were also not able to be visually customized for years.

I suggest you do what the others of us do, Liz. Get one or two of the blue male tac dudes, use their armor slot to hold your environmental suits and call it a day.
