Proposal: Extending New Romulan Republic Content

this thread is intended to suggest an extension of the NRR origin story in a logical way based on the narrative the current version suggests.

When we currently reach the UFP/KDF faction decision gate in the Legacy of Romulus storyline, New Romulus was just discovered and the capitol city that lies behind the gated wall we see in the NR adventure zone has yet to be constructed. I always have felt that the point at which we have to choose factions is really right when New Romulus needs every one of its citizens the most in terms of building a new home and a place to rebuild the shattered Romulan civilization.

A third option should be added to the decision gate that says "I wish to help my people rebuild, for now" which would delay the decision gate.

So what would we do as Romulans trying to help rebuild?

Literally participate in the building and maintaining of the capitol city of New Romulus. We would still be confined to romulan space, as the position we will have taken is one of Romulan pride. We're Romulans! We can use our own resources to rebuild. The Federation and Klingon Empire may help us if they wish, but this is our home, and we are a sovereign civilization. We must be able to stand on our own!

Throughout the region, resources needed for constructing and maintaining the city would be available through a variety of gameplay options. The city itself would utilize the mechanics currently operating in Fleet Holdings, which allow the growth and expansion of environments through contributions. Only this will not be limited to fleet membership. Every Romulan character who wishes to participate may do so, and as construction projects are completed, as we walk the streets of the future capitol, we would see buildings constructed and the eventual introduction of all the functions and features of a full social hub like ESD or the First City.

But there would always be threats. The Tal Shiar and Tholians have their eyes on New Romulus. The former wishing to surpress the new Republic that is thriving in its infancy, the latter on the resources they can take from us. Both are formidable threats and must be dealt with. It is not enough to build a city. It must be defended and maintained. So the contribution of its citizens will always be needed, lest progress be lost.

Resource Gathering would take the form of away missions to planets and other sites throughout Romulan Space. these away missions would work similarly to the resource runs that used to exist in the old exploration system. But the locations of the resources as well as potential threats and hazards should be far more varied. Sometimes, Tal Shiar or Tholian ships would stand between us and the planets to try to prevent us from completing our mission and therefore hurt the progress of New Romulus. Sometimes the enemy won't show up until we are ready to leave the system.

Unlike most missions, the resources would not be active until we scan for them. And only one deposit would be active at a time. The possible resource sites would be located a fair distance from and not in line of sight of each other. Each possible resource site would also have all the elements in place for every logical type of possible encounter. When a resource node becomes active, there is a chance that the encounter will as well. This means some nodes will be easy to obtain while others will present a challenge. Every time a resource activates without a challenge, the odds of the next one having a challenge will increase. that way, it will be impossible to go forever without meeting some sort of resistance.

Resource gathering missions would be on-going. Once the quota of resources at one planet is reached, orders to go after another resource on another planet would come through. At any time one could return to New Romulus and decide which active projects to commit the resources to. A Romulan Commodities exchange would be active which would allow the swapping of resources. And it would be interesting to have that work in such a way where one could offer x units of one resource for the same number of units of another resource.

Completing these missions which will include space and ground combat will allow one to continue to level up on only Romulan content.

And if a player gets tired of participating in this, he or she can always return to the Flotilla and make the UFP/KDF faction decision at any time. the idea is to offer on-going Romulan-specific content that is in line with the Legacy of Romulus narrative that could potentially allow one to level their Romulan character to max before joining a faction. And it would essentially be done using mechanics that, for the most part, already exist in the game and would need only be repurposed for Romulan content.

What do you all think?

i doubt this would work, since it would require reworking the other episode arcs and would interrupt the flow of the rest of the storyline in addition the new romulus arc starts at level 50, adding a 3rd decision would lock out the rest of the story arcs for romulan characters

Oh for God's sake. Get this added to FCT's already!

Whilst it would be great to add niche faction missions, the Dev's have stated that 'IT WILL NOT HAPPEN' at least for the forseeable future. OP, if you had searched the forums, as you really should do, then this stuff is old hat by now. No offence intended.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

I don't have a issue with it......so long as I still get to put Hakeev in the ground

The thing is though, at a certain point, there is no Federation or KDF content. It's shared content regardless of the faction. The only difference is who gives you the mission. And that (at least in more recent missions) extends to the Romulans, with a Romulan giving you the mission instead of a Fed/Klingon

Why should Romulans get exclusive missions when the Federation and Klingons don't?

The faction choice is game-mechanical, not storyline. It was added because a large part of the game was previously built to assume the player is Fed or KDF and the storyline in 2013 wasn't yet at the point where that restriction could be lifted. If they had given romulans access to both factions at that time as per the storyline, it would've been unfair to the old factions (and not giving the old factions reciprocal access to the Republic stuff was already plenty unfair as it was). So nonsense as it is for players to have to pick a side in the F/K conflict even though the Republic was allied to both...that's what we got.

If you don't want to choose an ally, don't do the mission. You can do that, people have done that. But it locks the toon out of a lot more than just leveling missions. The romulans aren't going to magically manifest all the stuff they get from the alliance, any more than TOSFeds are going to magically manifest a full game in the 23rd century. And the devs have been quite clear they don't intend to create any.

Contentwise, all the "factions" (origin stories) are treated as equally important. As in, everyone gets the exact same content.

While I like the idea of more faction-specific content, the developers have repeatedly said, on multiple occasions, that they do not want factions in STO. Not that they want a Fed-centric STO, but that they don't like the very existence of factions.

Cryptic doesn't do faction-specific story arcs anymore. That hasn't happened in years and the last time they did so was around LOR time frame. PVE content since LOR have been geared to cross-faction storylines involving the alliance.

This ship has set sail long ago.

I haven't even bothered with the KDF enough to know just how gimped they are compared to the UFP and the NRR. My deepest apologies for being so mis-informed. I thank you for correcting me on that. I'll take that plate of crow now. :)
Actually, the KDF has exactly the same number on unique missions as the Federation faction does.

They are by no means gimped.

I think the gimped comment refers to the whole thing you posted further up (reposted below) in quote. Compared to the Federation and the Romulans, Klingons have to rely on 11 levels worth of non KDF specific content to get to the same point at level 30 that the other two factions can get to.
The UFP and KDF already have faction-specific content they can level to max with.
    Excepr they don't.
-Federation specific content ends at level 30, with the "Taris" mission
-KDF specific content ends at level 19 with "Alpha"
-Romulan specific content ends at level 30 with "Devil's Choice"

If we want to take this a little further for Feds, "Skirmish", "Spin The Wheel", "What Lies Beneath", "Everything Old is New", and "Night of the Comet" are included in the Klingon war storyline while Klingons and Romulans have these as a separate arc from everything. shared faction content thanks to all the additions happens long before the factions get done with their storylines.
