I actually would skip it too if it was high noon. But I took a look and it's not overly bright - I guess pre-evening. So not too painful on the eyes.

I'm looking forward to the new Vorgon carrier. I just hope it's more of a tactical carrier like the T6 Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier and not yet another generic jack-of-all-trades (master of none) carrier.

I also hope there's a REALLY good ship trait for carrier pets and a good two-piece console bonus with the console from the Vorgon escort.

Well, the issue is that the Jem'Hadar is a Dreadnaught Carrier that people have to exchange a fair amount of currency to obtain. The Vorgon ship is a reward vessel that is relatively easy to obtain, and the Vorgon carrier is a ship that has a higher expectation on being usable by all captains. For these reasons, I wouldn't expect an emphasis on any one aspect, especially since there seems to be a push to have Tactical captains choose Escorts instead of other ships.

I do think there is an excellent chance for the Vorgon ship consoles to have a set bonus, however.

We will have to wait to see the stats, of course.

The only other solution I can come up with is: Half and half. If facing "west" you see darkened skies with the moons rising/setting....and if you look "east" you see skies with the sun rising/setting. The entire sky can be some sort of middle ground...with adjustments for sunsets or moon "auras".

I don't know...it could be strange if you fly high enough to see both sides of the island, though. LOL!

Unfortunately, that won't solve the Pavyl or the accolade issues.

Something they could do is display a clock for Risa. At least with that, we can get a good idea of day/night, and when we need to be at certain points of the map for accolade hunting. Otherwise, people will just camp the spots.

This is, under the assumption that even though we cannot see the cycle, there is an internal timer still running.

I've heard that there is still a cycle, we just don't get night time anymore.

As for getting bonus ship tokens...like was said, that happens only on the Anniversary because of the shorter running time. There is plenty of time to do 25 runs to get your tokens in for the ship. The three courses take less than five minutes to run. I've run them in less than three when they're situated close together. It's fun and the floaters are easy to fly. Put on a speedy floater and pet a Risian tribble and you can speed through the Flying Highs and Horga'hn hunts.
Now a LTS and loving it.

As I said I had my newest Character run all the Accolade stuff back in February. Got everything in one day except the Mok'Bara Denied. The Klingons just weren't showing up. Haven't gotten that yet.

Pavyl's puzzles are actually easier now in that you can get it, fly right to the spot, meet him, complete it. You can then go back get another puzzle and complete that without waiting for another day and midnight.

So you'll refuse to participate simply because there's no day-night cycle? What an adult reaction. Throw out an ultimatum-fix the day-night cycle or I'm boycotting it.

I'm not letting that slightly insignificant detail to stop me from enjoying the party that is the Summer Event.

If you've kept up with recent developments, there is no "fix" for it. It's gone for good. Fact check: STO is a MMORPG, with the RPG standing for Role Playing Game, meaning people like their particular pixels enough to gamble away hundreds of dollars and/or a ton of free time for. I dislike what's become of Risa, so in the absence of dynamic scenery don't find much use of staying there as often to enjoy it in the way I used to. Call it immature if it makes you happy and make you feel all grown up because you can label people that. I'm also not alone in voicing my displeasure about the changes, not that anything will come of it save for a tiny sliver of hope that some developer may just take note for future games to listen to their fans or have fun designing a ghost town. For you it may be insignificant, for me and many others it is not.

    Enjoy your time on Risa.

For you it may be insignificant, for me and many others it is not.

Because of an environmental bug introduced with Season 10 (presumably a hardware specific memory leak), Risa for me has had cripplingly low frame rates. I've been literally blocked from participating with the Summer Event until this year, as Lighting 2.0 (the thing that unfortunately killed lighting cycles) improved general performance sufficiently to make my FPS drop noticeable but not fatal. I pulled through the bad times because despite the issues I was having I was able to see that this thing could still be fun. When I spoke about my frustration, I tried to keep context in mind and not presume that "ghost towns" were the next thing coming because my needs weren't being satisfied.

In considering where your own frustrations are coming from, take a step back from the idea of an advocacy campaign to win over "some developer" and consider your context. This is ultimately an art change, it's not the end of the world (except to the planet's biosphere) and while you might have a lot of emotional attachment to this art change that might not be something other people can appreciate, especially when phrased as "TRIBBLE you guys, I'm going to Auraxis."

Some of us have had to deal with far worse (as in, the actual death of the summer event) and we're still happily playing around with what we can. Things can get better, though not necessarily when you starting making demands of people.

    Things I want in STO:

    1) More character customization options such as more clothing options, letting the toon complexion affect the entire body, not just the head. Also a true RGB color picker applied to all costume and appearance options, which would allow for true appearance customization and homogenous colors instead of "this same exact color looks vastly different on two different pieces."
    2) Bridge customization, not bridge packs. Let us pick a general layout and adjust the color palette, console appearance, and chair types, as well as more ready room layout options.
    3) Customizable ground weapons, i.e. The aesthetic look of phaser dual pistols but they shoot antiproton bolts. For obvious reasons this would only apply to standard ground weapons.
    4) For the love of Q please revamp Plasma Ground Weapons. They look like demented Supersoakers right now.
    5) True Vanity Impulse and Deflector effects similar to Vanity Shields.
    6) A greater payout for hitting T6 Reputations. Currently it takes more time and resources to get from T5 to T6 than it does to get from nothing to T5. Make that grind really pay out at the end.
    7) Mirrorverse Refugee event similar to AoY/Delta/Gamma, complete with new Mirrorverse recruits for all factions.

Well, I do know what RPG means, I even do some RP myself. However I still find issuing ultimatums like a spoiled child to be...childish. You can dislike the absence of a day-night cycle and choose to boycott the SE over it and still be adult about it, and not sound like you're stomping your foot and saying "You ruined the day-night cycle! I'm not coming this year!"

As for myself, I am going to enjoy the event. I look forward to it from the time it ends until it comes around again. While I did enjoy the day-night cycle when it was there, the absence of it will not spoil my fun.

I'm not going to miss night on Risa. Under the old lighting system, it was too low-contrast, and too blue. It gave the planet a bit of atmosphere, but it made hunting for horga'hns during the night cycle rather annoying, especially if it was daytime where you were and you didn't have total blackout coverings on your windows. I call it a net benefit to gameplay to have it daytime all the time.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

We CAN see it, just not in the ambient lighting. There are things like outside lights(tiki torches, etc) that are only lit at night. If you see those, it's night.

This issue with the cycle shouldn't stop them from making permanent night locations. I wouldn't mind if they made half the instances day and the other half night somehow, but I guess they couldn't since they would have to make a completely separate location from the default day Risa and probably can't combine them through shared instances.

What ultimatums are you talking about? The changes to Risa are final. It's not a negotiation. I said what I said cause it's how I feel about the changes, and what I will do about the changes, in a topic about Risa. Most people won't do as much. They'll simply move on with zero feedback. Take your interpretations as you wish, I'm not changing my words to try to cater to your lack of perspective.

Would be nice to have Lighting 2.0 to work with day/night cycle with torches along paths, being able to see shadows that you'd be able to see during bright full moon nights when you are far enough away from city lights, that sort of thing.

Thought 2.0 can be turned off?

If I remember rightly, I already did that when it first came out. Maybe night cycle works with it disabled. Find out soon enough.

You can turn lighting 2.0 off but that's not equivalent to removing it from your system at all levels. Ambient lighting cycles do not come back with the 1.0 option, we can presume that they are no longer compatible with STO (we may have the option to make the lighting engine behave as it did with 1.0, but that doesn't mean that it's been fully preserved in its original state.)

Correct. Taco explained it on reddit. The lighting is part of the map architecture (correct tech term?) and even if you disable 2.0 you still visit the same maps as 2.0 people and have built in static lighting. Lighting 1.0 can never return as it was.

In Runescape, the lighting changes as you travel to certain places. Like it turns to night when you get to Draynar village, and the Wizards' tower. Maybe a sort of 'perma-night' could be added in? o.o

Since hardly anyone goes to classic Risa they could temporarily replace it with a night version of the Risa summer resort so people can choose between night and day.
  • angrytargangrytarg Member Posts: 11,001 Arc User
I think night Risa doesn't exist any more. In lighting 2.0 the light you see is part of the object. So if I got this right, when you see the sun shine on the rooftops in 1.0 it was actual ambient light illuminating a object. In 2.0 the reflection is textured on the roof. If the sky would be night every object would still be lit as it's currently. That means someone (poor taco) had to rebuild ALL the textures for night Risa after just building them for day Risa...
