Dynamic universe

I have an idea, how about you make the universe Dynamic for example:
say for the Borg red alert how about if you don't stop them before time runs out then their space expands and to take it back you have to band up with a bunch of players and take back the system it would make losing more impact more the more they take the harder it gets to take back.
i know it could be a bit of a long shot a lot of things would have to change.
Fleets would be more important when you could choose where to make their star base and that they could lose it if they don't defend it.
i don't care if they have to make a new game for this i just think its a cool idea. of course there is way more that could be done to sto that make it into a living universe, comment what you think and your ideas

A dynamic universe requires such a massive overhaul to the game that it basically means a new game will have to be designed from the ground up. That will never happen and all thread proposing ideas to develop STO 2.0 in the past have been locked.

The closest you will get is Star Trek Birth of the Federation released by Microprose (defunct) back in 1999. Good luck getting it to run on a modern OS though.

if it's one of the star trek games available for purchase on GOG, it'll run on modern OS' just fine
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

No, it is not. It is an abandoned game... Well, not really abandoned, I am sure Hasbro still owns the rights to the game.

It runs fine on Win 10. You just need to install 'dxwnd' which acts as a 'moderator'. And it's Abandonware now. You can get a 'multi-mod installer' version and apply various mods to it.

I love Birth of the Federation. I suggest it to GoG every now and then. Hopefully it will happen some day. But if it ever does, the reality of the game in 2017+ probably won't live up to my memories of it. ;)

Star Trek Birth of the Federation has a silver rating on WineDB so I'm guessing modern OS's can run this.

This would be an awesome idea, and the instance could only run full scale when there are players in it and dependent on how many players are around.

Even something much simpler, adding some randomization to existing queues would make the encounters less scripted and feel more realistic. It could be as simple as what types of ships warp in, with certain abilities, adding new optionals or changing mission parameters. It only takes a few of these variables to interact randomly to end up with a ton of variation.

At the current state of the borg, the playerbase will make them extinct.
unless they buff the borg immensly but then again a lot of low level players will complain on how hard the borg are OP and needs to be nerfed, it is a vicious circle, so no

So what do you do when one side wins?

Not so bad if Klingons or Romulans lose to the Federarion. That seems to be where STO is headed anyway.

If the Borg win, I suppose we could fly our assimilated ships around assimilating strange new worlds, but if Species 8472 wins we'd all perish, (or so I've been told.)

Eventually the universe would grow lop-sided, and to maintain the current degree of diversity it would require a massive deus ex machina which, considering the complaints about the current lack of options, players would hate.

Dynamic universes are for games with a referee to determine the extent of change, or for games with an ending. STO is niether kind of game.

if this was to happen i think they would make the borg overpowered so they are way harder

The Borg in the starter quest are not the Borg in Infected. Scaling.

rift and gw2 are two prime examples as why this seems a good idea to inject life but in reality doesn't work
