diplomacy

hi all. are they ever going to explore diplomacy in the game as a way to solve conflict and gain experience for the more peaceful players?even if it takes twice the time to level up, I would love to solve problems like Captain Picard in the next generation in a less violent way.even if they start a new time line for playing like an ambassador it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think so. STO is a arcade action game first and foremost, not a Star Trek simulator or sandbox. A lot of (older?) players are familiar with the Point and Click adventures in the Star Trek universe and how those games put dialogue, puzzles and diplomacy before an itchy trigger finger - but STO is not that game.

However, I am in favour of at least trying to get some exploration and diplomacy back into the game. I did suggest at one point, for example, that instead of blowing up enemy ships you could disable them with non-critical hits causing them to lie adrift in space. At this point there could be an "F" interactive button that allows you two options as a Fed player: "Negotiate Surrender" or "Attempt Capture". If you do nothing the ship eventually blows up via "Abandon ship" or self-destruct. If those options are succesful (chance depending on DOFFs, initial diplomacy tier etc.) you get awarded diplomacy XP instead of general expertise and can net a peaceful "kill". If the boarding attempt is succesful (based on military/security xp, DOFFs...) the ship could become an ally for a brief time before also awarding (a bit less) diplomacy XP. For the KDF the two options could be "Send Boarding Parties" and "Attempt Capture", awarding Marauder XP and commodities.

This was talked about yrs. ago.To make clear I was an alpha tester. The response was this is a game and must have combat in it to make more fun.I hope they do do what you suggest.like said this was asked yrs. ago and it never took root.Seems they have mainly focused on fighting not peaceful storytelling.

I doubt they can make upgrade tokens for diplomacy and turn it in to a dilithium/zen grind. Then again they could prove me wrong so who knows?

There are unique dialog options for diplomacy in some missions. This is probably as far as things are going to go though.
